Celebrating my son’s graduation from Fordham University.
Ridiculously bad experience. Made reservations weeks in advance. They were so overbooked that 45 minutes after our reservation, they still couldn’t tell us when we’d be seated. So overcrowded. Staff was crazed. No room to wait anywhere. We never got dinner. Had to leave to catch a train. Do NOT patronize this restaurant until they learn how to run a business.
They had huge issue with reservations made on Open Table and were severely overbooked. I are at the bar standing up but the bartender was wonderful and the music really good. Call to book. Do not depend on the app as it was super congested and very overbooked.
We arrived at 6pm for a 6pm reservation.... The place was so packed, we couldn't reach the host stand. Once we made contact, we were told they were overbooked and it would be 20 minutes. But there were MULTIPLE people telling us they had 5:30pm reservations and earlier and still had not been seated. Turns out, they were running about an hour behind. IN THE THEATER DISTRICT!! We had no choice but to take the last two seats at the bar, where the door kept opening (it was snowing) chilling our food immediately. It also felt like a mosh pit, as it was so overcrowded, and clearly packed well beyond capacity, that everyone who entered or exited pushed into us as they passed. It was probably the worst dining experience of my life. The food was great, but we won't be back.
Plan your next visit to NYC around dinner at Da Marino - you won't be disappointed!
From the atmosphere to the live music to the fabulous food and great wait staff, everything there is top notch! The staff is attentive and the food is to die for. I had the lasagna and could barely finish it (which never happens to me) - that's how big the portion was. But save room -- the desserts are out of this world!! The chocolate cake was to die for and the cheesecake was the best I've ever had (and that's saying something!).
You do need to be prepared for the crowd, especially if you go early in the evening when the pre-theater crowd is enjoying dinner before a show. We had reservations at 6 PM on a Saturday and the place was jam-packed, which did create some delays -- but the staff was great about getting everyone seated as quickly as possible. Tom D'Angelo is a great manager and his interaction with the crowd was like getting dinner and a show! By about 8 PM, the crowd had thinned out significantly - so if you want to avoid the bustle, consider getting a reservation after the shows start (around 7 PM).
There aren't enough good things to say about Da Marino - you really just have to experience it for yourself!!
We made 5:45 reservations on a Saturday night because we had tickets for an 8 PM show (Phantom). Showed up at 5:40. Were told they were running a little late. It was uncomfortably busy as we were told to get a drink at the bar while we waited. There was no where to sit or stand. We say so many people come and give up on their reservations--they were the smart ones. Finally sat us at 6:59 with promises that the kitchen was "fast." Dinner arrived at 7:33--that means they gave us less than 15 minutes to eat and pay. Ridiculous.
Outstanding. Great food, service and atmosphere. This restaurant has it all.
I had the signature chocolate pasta with shrimp. I was reluctant to order it but it was fabulous. Looking forward to visiting again so I could order it again. Thank you for a great meal!!
Kitchie and tired. Terrible Le
Excellent pre theater experience; no complaints except food is very good, not great.
We had a 6:30 reservation. When we got there at 6:15, we couldn't hardly walk in the place. Finally made our way to the host who had a clipboard of names, no Open Table reservations, and said they were way overbooked but could seat us. We should've left, because we ended up having to wait until 7pm to get a table, and that was only after I hounded the host because we had an 8pm show. Didn't comp our drinks at the bar, and if anything, overcharged us. Bartender was sooo rude. Waiter at our table was very kind and got us our food quick, but we had to inhale and leave. Terrible experience.
They were overbooked and many walked out. We were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar and were able to order dinner from there. We were called more than a full hour after our time. food was good.
The food was very good and once you got seated so was the service.
My only complaint is they totally overbooked the reservations. We had a 6 pm reservation for 2 and got seated around 6:30 pm. There were others with parties of 3 that had 5:45 reservations that were still waiting when we were seated.
We waited more than 45 minutes for a table even though we had a reservation The owner said it was because OpenTable overbooked. The waiting area was very very very crowded and very small. They kept telling us we were the next table to be seated which was an outright lie. Although the food was pretty good we will never go back.
The restaurant extremely overbooked!
We arrived to see at least 25 awaiting a 5:30 reservation.
People were packed in waiting for at least one hour.
Since the resataurant is tiny with only 1 way in/out.
I feared I a fired happened or emergency,
We would not make it out.
Not sure what happened here as they were seriously endangering occupants!
Lively and fun with fantastic food and service. This was my 3rd visit to DaMarino and it is always consistent and delicious.
Great food, excellent service (by two different servers, since my party of two were there for over three hours) and a friendly and cozy ambience. Been here at least three times and never lets me down!
Great classic Italian food and eclectic ambiance! Fun and delicious!
Somethings we had were outstanding and others were horrible
Worst meatballs I ever had
Men’s bathroom disgusting it is very dark to conceal dirt but darkness couldn’t hide odor
Dinner was delicious and the service was great. It was the perfect spot for a pre-theater meal. We would definitely go back!
Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed the pianist, who welcomed requests. The decor was fun and the atmosphere was very cozy. We really enjoyed ourselves there, and went back for coffee after seeing the show.
The restaurant over-booked reservations so I never actually ate here. I was on time for my reservation, in fact about 10 minutes early and they did not honor my reservation. Not only that— there were 10-15 parties in front of me that still had to be seated!!! The wait time was at least 1.5-2 hours !! This was a pre-theater reservation so there was no time to wait, or to make an alternate accommodation. Had to eat at Chipotle instead. Truthfully, given the chaos at the restaurant, we were probably better off. I would not give DaMarino a second chance— they were hardly apologetic about the wait time. Maybe it’s like that there all of the time.
they overbooked the place by at least double so my wife and i had to bail on my reservation or i would have missed my show. We were packed in the bar area like sardines. My wife and i waited 30 minutes after our reservation time and pulled the ripcord. We had to scramble to find dinner elsewhere pre-show. I don’t recommend but did not get a chance to try the food.
Frustrating to have to wait 45 minutes to get seated on a Saturday night despite OpenTable reservations for 2 made 2 months prior. The restaurant actually blamed OpenTable for this, saying they were allowing unlimited reservations. Who should I believe? That was a bad start to the experience. However, Tom got us taken care of and out of there quickly in time to make our show. The food was good.
Table given away after we told maitre’d we would be outside. Very narrow waiting area. Pass on this place.
The restaurant did bring back memories of Italy. The paintings on the wall were magnificent; the service was impeccable; the food was delicious and we arrived early and we were seated immediately. Would recommend to a friend looking for a nice cozy Italian restaurant.
Have been there many times and always truly a great experience, from food to service to ambiance. This time was not the same. The host seemed disinterested when we asked about the piano player and stated we were happy to be back, the food was better than average, but nothing in the menu as far as taste appeal was the “wow”, and we were in the very back corner and could not even hear the piano player even though we were one of the first tables at 6. Disappointed but will try again in hopes of loving it again.
Tony the maître d’ could not have been nicer. Food was excellent service superb. Would highly recommend.
We arrived early but were seated way after our reservation time. Ordered right away because we had a show to catch . 40 min later we had no food. When inquired with the waitress why it’s taking so long, response was “you should have told me you had a show” . After waiting another 5 min we were offered to order something “quicker” to prepare . That is after being at the restaurant for an hour and 15 min . At that point we decided to leave . We did not have a chance to taste the food , but the entire experience was ridiculous. That is why I gave one star to everything .
Extremely rude. We entered 12 minutes late behind a large group. After they checked in and stepped aside, we checked in and were told in a VERY condescending tone that we were late and now we would have to wait awhile to get seated. I was also addressed by my first name - we are not friends, proper etiquette would be to address me by my last name. Yes, we were late due to railroad delays but they could’ve politely told us that they gave our reservation away, there was no need to be condescending. We went down the block where we were treated respectfully, had an amazing meal with amazing service. We will never return to Da Marino.
Quaint. Drinks were made well. Service was very good. The calamari appetizer was good. The gnocchi were heavy not like light soft pillows as they should be. The pork chops were vey thin and fatty.
Very disappointing. The prices on the website aren’t the prices on the menu. Then the prices on the menu are not what they charge you. Prices have jumped tremendously over the past couple of years and the value is not there. Food is way overpriced and portions are small. Prices for desserts on not on menu but when you get the bill they are $17 a piece which is outrageous. Best part was two of the desserts were supposed to come with fruit and they didn’t. They ration out bread like it’s the depression. Only one piece per person. If you ask for more they give you one additional piece and this time it’s ice cold. The manager is very arrogant and obnoxious. I have seen him very rude to patrons, especially those who have limited knowledge of the English language. We spent $200 and walked out hungry. To add insult to injury I get an email from open table accusing me of not keep my reservation and now I have to provide proof including a receipt meanwhile our waiter was the one who sat us there. Wasn’t the first time we went there but definitely the last.
Food delicious. Service prompt, charming, courteous. Had a great lunch. Not rushed. Old style ambiance. Great pics on the wall. And do check out restroom.
Ambiente divertido y agradable
The food was amazing but our sever Enxhi Q would hardly look at our table to check on us. After we ordered our food and bottle of wine we had to flag her down multiple times to ask for desserts, water refills, and our check. She would go down the line of her tables checking on them and then skip our table and continue to not even look in our direction. Other than that the food and ambiance were fantastic.
Pre theatre dining
With a reservation, we still needed to wait for an hour for the table. This seemed typical for most guests and I heard other folks say it is often like that. Cheese and meat platter was below average. Pear salad was good but not great. Seafood pasta main course was good. Fillet special was outstanding. Cocktails and wine were both good, but expensive for what it was. The waitress was not great, but that could be just because things were so busy and they were trying to get through customers.
Food is wonderful but just say no we waited an hour for a table they just overbooked and we’re also incredibly rude about it the only redeeming factor was the food everything else sucked just say no
Horrible experience. Had reservations but were seated over one hour later. They blamed it on Open Table. Host was extremely rude. Wont be back
