Dakota's Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
we went to the theatre with some friends and then had dinner at Dakota's. IT was outstanding. They were able to seat us early, and the service was great. All of our food was fixed just like we ordered, and the sides are big enough for two. They did not rush us and we actually sat and talked enjoyed some coffee and desert, while listing to the piano player. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for outstanding food and service.
Service was excellent. We had a lovely, semi-private table. This is an expensive restaurant. Everything is a la carte. We are a low-sodium family but forgot to ask for "no salt" so, to our purist taste buds, everything was too salty. My ribeye was quite overdone. They comped it, which was very generous of them. I could have had another steak cooked for me, but I didn't want to bother. The meat seemed tasty at first, so I kept the steak, but after a while, it was just too salty and overdone. Shrimp cocktail app was delicious but messy to eat, as they plop the shrimp on a plate with the very tasty sauce. I would prefer a "cocktail" dish for the shrimp where I could dip them into the sauce. Husband's crab cake app was good but salty. Both steaks were top-drawer beef but very salty. We made the mistake of ordering a pound of King crab legs too at $59/pound, yikes. These were well-prepared but, again, too salty. When we got back to our hotel room with our leftover bags, neither of us wanted to eat any of it the next day because of the salt. In spite of the excellent service and lush surrounding, we are not likely to return unless we could have a guarantee that NOTHING would be salted. The next morning, we could not get the taste of salt out of our mouths for most of the day. So if you love salt, this is a great place for you. But if you are trying to reduce your sodium intake, better be sure to say "no salt" right up front or you will be inundated.
We booked last min, thinking we'd found just another nice steak house, but Dakota's totally exceeded our expectations! Service and care were personalized and top notch. Our steaks were the best we've had in Dallas (which has been numerous) and the veal chop with blue cheese ragout, wow! We refrained from dessert, but the menu was very tempting! Hope to return!
Overall, nice place to visit. The meals were good but not exceptional.
The most disappointing item was the Caesar salad. Very bland. There was no hint of garlic or anchovy or anything that a freshly made Caesar salad should have.
We will return but will order a different salad.
Food was good. Quail was very good, not crispy but juicy and flavorful. Baby Gem salad was way over dressed and as much Romaine lettuce as arugula and gem leaves. Steak was good; seasoned appropriately and carefully cooked. The watercress adoring the plate was wilted and on the edge of spoiling. Coconut cream pie was good - a nice finish. The decaf coffee was warm, not hot, and we had to ask for a refill. Overall, a good meal but nothing special. Because we were visiting TX and TX is a beef raising state, we expected Texas meat. All the meat is mid- America (which is lovely and delicious...)
My Food order and drink order was wrong. I asked for the steak dish with scallops recommended by the server, but received just the steak and I asked for no salt on for my cocktail... there were maybe 20 patrons at the restarant. I will not go back. 12/8 @ 8pm reservation.
Everything was great, it truly was. The wait staff, and our server in particular, was hands down the best. Ever. The fountain and live piano are amazing for a romantic evening or special occasion. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection, and you HAVE to try the coconut cream pie (recommended by our waiter). I highly recommend Dakota’s!
