About Dakota's Steakhouse

What's better than a fine, aged wine? How about a fine, aged steakhouse that serves prime aged steaks. Where would one find such a unique combination? Located below the sidewalks of downtown Dallas at the 30 year Dallas icon, Dakota's Steakhouse.

Sit back and take in the many decorative nuances that make Dakota's still one of the most romantic spots in Dallas. Outside the restaurant, the multi-level waterfall, draping foliage and black granite patio bar make dining outdoors a delight. Inside the restaurant, the New Orleans lamps and imported marble floors neatly package the classic theme.

Wanted to make Valentine's Day with my wife special. This was the place. Quiet & romantic, with service that was over the top. Definitely a great place for special occasions.

evertrying is horrible
Oyster are spoiled. Taste sour
Rare fillet is raw
Lamb is over seasoned. Over over seasonal
I like salty food but still can’t stand it
Wal-Mart even has better shrimp than here

Usually the food is awesome here but this time a couple things were off. I ordered the NY strip medium and unfortunately the outside was a little charred and the cream spinach was awful, we actually sent it back. My wife’s steak was spot on though.

The wait staff was excellent.

One of the best dining experiences I have had. They bent over backwards to make our visit as nice as possible.

I write this with some ambivalence, but this visit was disappointing. Perhaps my standards are too high or I am too sensitive to nuance. I just expected better for dinners out where you are spending in the $250-$300 range. I was taken back to see a restaurant of this caliber using serving trays like an outback or steak & ale. Perhaps they are understaffed ? The meal was just underwhelming all around, steaks are not well seasoned and the sauces that are priced like they are something truly special are not.
Desert choices were also thin as the selection seemed straight out of cheese cake factory. No pastry chef working there it seems.

We don’t make it to downtown too often but wanted out of Plano for an early Valentine’s Day dinner and were left wanting more.

Celebrated my Birthday at Dakotas and I was very impressed with the Service and food. I had a great time and absolutely enjoyed the atmosphere. Our waiter was on top of his game and really made sure the night was special and meaningful. I can't wait for another special occasion cause I'm looking for an excuse to return. This place is AMAZING!!! Worth every Dollar.....

My last visit to Dakota's was 30 years ago. I was a 16 year old junior in high school. I remembered Dakota's being very nice and very expensive, but having wonderful food. Fast-forward 30 years and the restaurant is as nice, and the food is as good, as I remembered it. I had the 22 oz bone-in ribeye, baked potato and macaroni and cheese. The steak was seared and perfectly cooked, the loaded baked potato had large bacon chunks which added flavor, and the macaroni and cheese was made with smoked Gouda, which was fantastic. My fiance had the catch of the day that was served with steam vegetables. She does not eat red meat and eats fish almost everywhere we go. She loved her meal and said it was one of the best she had eaten. Whatever you do, DO NOT order the cheesecake! If you do, you will want to order a second piece to go. The white chocolate cheesecake is by far one of the best pieces of cheesecake I have ever eaten, and I make a good cheesecake.

Dakota's steakhouse is always a superior dining experience. The steaks are exceptional. I usually order the filet and my husband orders the porterhouse, always cooked to perfection.

The service is excellent and the ambience is second to none.

Our waiter Efrin was excellent, courteous and knowledgeable and so was the rest of the staff. My wife and I were celebrating an early Valentine's Day dinner and glad we decided on this restaurant. I recommend Dakota's to anyone that would like to spend quality time with a loved one and enjoy an exquisite meal.

My wife and I went here for our anniversary the other night for the second time. We love Dakota's because the staff is so kind and attentive--they even got together to sign a card to tell us happy anniversary.

The steaks are legendary and known for the qualify of the cut and the preparation, but you definitely pay a premium for that.

Food was ok, would not make the top 20 steakhouses in Dallas that’s for sure. Had to send a steak back 2 times and it still did not come out correct. When you spend $57 on a steak (supposedly the best cut in the house), I am sorry but I expect perfection from a steakhouse, especially in Texas. What struck me as really un-nerving is that about 9:00pm the wait staff starts taking chairs from table and clearing the restaurant. It makes you feel as though they want you to hurry up so they can go home. Maybe it should have been a hint to us that they really were not busy on a Saturday night. Anyway, this was our first and last time here.

I hosted a birthday dinner here, for my brother in law and our over all experience was not good. I made a reservation for 10 at 8:30 and was on time for my reservation but all my guest didn’t arrive on time. My last guest arrived at 9:20(ish), which is when our terrible waiter BRANDON decided to bring out our bread/oil. He asked if we wanted water, we said yes not informed that the water is 7$ each bottle. He poured the whole table water, and only 3 people actually drank. Being a first timer, I had a few questions about some of the products they carried. After every question, he gave a sarcastic, very nonchalant answer. There was a small altercation about the time he would bring the check, and the complimentary birthday dessert in which he basically went back and forth with me. He never checked on my table once, never asked if we were enjoying/enjoyed our food. I was not a happy camper. I did not tip, and hate that he even got gra

We will certainly visit again & again!!!

I have been to this place on two other occasions and I am always impressed by the service, the quality of the food and the ability of the chef to get the TEMPERATURE right every time I order a steak! That is a rare talent! The filet is magnificent and the Sazerach and Old Fashioned are drinks for the ages.

Don’t do it, its a trap!
When you look at the pictures, you get the impression this could be a great high end dining experience. Unfortunately, not even close. Your first clue something is amiss is when you pull up and have problems finding the place because the middles letters of their sign is burned out so at night it says “Dtas”.

When you sit down and ask for a glass of champagne, you are told they don’t have any. In fact anything wine related is a shambles. I ordered one of the 2 good bottles of red wine they had on a very sparse list. 40 minutes later we had ordered and received our appetizers but still no sign of the wine. I asked our waiter about the status on the wine. Was told “working on it”. Since I could see the bottle sitting on the piano, I waited 5 minutes and then asked if he could intervene any get our wine bottle released from captivity. There is no sommelier or anyone that knows anything about wine.

Service is a shambles. Slow and incompetent. Wrong dishes came out, some cold, some warm. Beef was of an inferior quality compared to Dallas’ top steak houses. A 20% mandatory tip was put on the bill, including the wine. While I would normally tip that amount, in this case it was put on the bill because they knew thay had not performed anywhere near that level of service.

On an odd final note, the piano player played “Happy Birthday” as every other song. We thought that it would be odd to have that many birthdays in one night. Our waiter happily volunteered that this was a tradition to do that on Saturday nights......

This used to be a "go to" location for dinner at our twice annual market in Dallas. It just seems a bit tired now. Our table was actually way off kilter and the server had to get underneath it to balance it as the tilt was quite noticeable.
The food was fine. Quality beef, but nothing memorable. Service was attentive. There were a good selection of wines, but more on the higher end of the spectrum. All in all, it's a nice restaurant, but slipping. There are much fresher options with more varied menus.

we went to the theatre with some friends and then had dinner at Dakota's. IT was outstanding. They were able to seat us early, and the service was great. All of our food was fixed just like we ordered, and the sides are big enough for two. They did not rush us and we actually sat and talked enjoyed some coffee and desert, while listing to the piano player. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for outstanding food and service.

Service was excellent. We had a lovely, semi-private table. This is an expensive restaurant. Everything is a la carte. We are a low-sodium family but forgot to ask for "no salt" so, to our purist taste buds, everything was too salty. My ribeye was quite overdone. They comped it, which was very generous of them. I could have had another steak cooked for me, but I didn't want to bother. The meat seemed tasty at first, so I kept the steak, but after a while, it was just too salty and overdone. Shrimp cocktail app was delicious but messy to eat, as they plop the shrimp on a plate with the very tasty sauce. I would prefer a "cocktail" dish for the shrimp where I could dip them into the sauce. Husband's crab cake app was good but salty. Both steaks were top-drawer beef but very salty. We made the mistake of ordering a pound of King crab legs too at $59/pound, yikes. These were well-prepared but, again, too salty. When we got back to our hotel room with our leftover bags, neither of us wanted to eat any of it the next day because of the salt. In spite of the excellent service and lush surrounding, we are not likely to return unless we could have a guarantee that NOTHING would be salted. The next morning, we could not get the taste of salt out of our mouths for most of the day. So if you love salt, this is a great place for you. But if you are trying to reduce your sodium intake, better be sure to say "no salt" right up front or you will be inundated.

We booked last min, thinking we'd found just another nice steak house, but Dakota's totally exceeded our expectations! Service and care were personalized and top notch. Our steaks were the best we've had in Dallas (which has been numerous) and the veal chop with blue cheese ragout, wow! We refrained from dessert, but the menu was very tempting! Hope to return!
