Chef Partner Ari Bokovza, most recently of Claudette, and who is of Israeli heritage, feels that the Mezze, and small plates selections are the soul of the restaurant with items such as Sasso Chicken Liver with mustard seeds, date syrup, crispy shallot and baharat; Roasted Beets with horseradish yogurt, fried chickpeas, and crispy beef tongue; Charred Eggplant with buttermilk vinaigrette, tomato jam, and shabazi bread crumbs, and Shishbarak: Lebanese mushroom filled dumplings, with warm yogurt, pine nuts, and spicy herb sauce. Kubaneh, and Jerusalem Bagel are homemade, and there is a section of creative salads and entrees including Levantine “Caesar” with tahini anchovy dressing, parmesan, fried chick peas, toasted sesame, and anchovy tempura; Harissa BBQ Chicken with potato sumac puree, local greens, and Whole Roasted Branzino cooked over charcoal, with preserved lemon butter, and celery root.

Our first visit and wanted to love it. Seated inside and noise level was very high—hard to talk across the table. Food was delicious and inventive. Busy evening and service was a bit slow but staff tried hard. Would go back and recommend it to others but only for outside where it was much quieter.

Incredible food in every regard: Fresh, inventive, perfectly prepared. Every dish was jaw-droppingly good and this is not the place to forego the insane bread that comes with labneh. At $22, two scallops seems chintzy, but it was a knockout dish. The mushroom dumplings are melt in your mouth. The fatoosh salad is a winner, but beware-- it has the dreaded cilantro-- I asked as it says "fresh herbs" (it's the only one I cannot tolerate). They left it off when I asked. We also had the lamb and the delicious cauliflower. Service was excellent. Too full for dessert. Highly recommended.

I visited the highly touted Dagon and have mixed feelings about it. The food was quite good, but from a hospitality standpoint I was not impressed. When two out of 4 of us arrived first, we were asked to stand by the bar even though the dining room was sparsely filled. We declined. When seated, I asked about the mezze offerings and was given a terse and not at all friendly response from the server. Then when we tried to order mezze, we were told that we had to order the entire meal at one time. It was my Birthday and I was looking forward to a leisurely dinner, while cognizant that there were time constraints which I understand, and thought it not unreasonable to peruse the menu (the place was new to us) while munching on mezze which are already prepared and could come out fast. The place is overly bright, which makes it feel a bit like a cafeteria. It's also fairly expensive, so given my mixed experience, it's unlikely that I'll be returning.

Excellent food & drink at very fair prices BUT noise level inside leaves one's ears ringing, and service, though attentive and polite, seemed hurried, as though kitchen was about to close (it was only 7:15) and we felt a bit rushed. Weather permitting, I'd prefer dining outside here.

We were underwhelmed. Some dishes were great, others were ordinary. The service was very slow. Loved the chicken liver mouse and the shishbarak. The whipped eggplant, Moroccan carrots and cauliflower were just ok. We ordered the tuna crudo and when the waitress brought it to the table, she said they are out of tuna and used salmon. She said the chef never told her about the switch. It was good, just minuscule. I ordered a glass of wine when they brought our 2nd courses out but we were practically finished when I told the server to cancel the wine. She said the bar was slammed. Didn’t look like it. Not sure I will return.

Food was DELICIOUS! However, service left a lot to be desired. When we arrived, the hostess shared thst she had given away our table. It was 12:01pm for a 12pm reservation. She then tried to convince us to sit indoors, despite having intentionally made an outdoor reservation a week before hand as we were celebrating a Birthday. We continued to wait, and were finally seated 45 minutes after our reservation. Took a long time to have our order taken and the waiter seemed to be very confused. Drinks came out after Mezzes had arrived. One diner, waited nearly 30 minutes for her coffee.

Food was excellent and a wonderful atmosphere! Will return but hope that service is much much better!!

A great addition to the Upper West Side. The food is excellent and varied, too many good choices!! The kitchen was slow, but our server kept us posted and was most apologetic. The biggest problem, if the noise level. It is difficult to carry on a conversation and much of the time I found myself having to yell to make myself heard.

Introduced my tenth group of friends to Dagon on this trip. As usual, it was a HIT!! Chef never misses.
Shishbarak and cauliflower reigns! New salmon and the original lamb were favorites . And the pastry chef of the night was encouraged by our server to produce a five star rendition of Silan. I’ve had some good results, some not good results and until tonight’s perfect presentation, only one Perfect Silan. Now I’ve had TWO!!! It takes a skilled hand to arrange the Ingredients to create the magic. We were charmed!

The BEST restaurant! We loved everything we tried!! Highly recommend all the breads and dips and cauliflower and mushroom dumplings 🤩 also our waiter Eduardo was great! Also the halvah ice cream was beyond!!

Great first try at Dagon. Food was great -ate too much because the breads were too delicious. I’ll definitely be back to sit at the bar especially. It was unreasonably loud and we couldn’t keep conversation going across the table. I hope they find a way to manage the noise.

We had a wonderful experience at Dagon. The service was outstanding, from the wait person who was friendly, helpful, and delivered food in a timely manner to the manager, who accommodated our request to be moved to a more distant table due to Covid concerns, to the kind people who constantly refilled our water glasses, cleared our dishes between courses, etc. This is customer service that is often lacking in many restaurants. The outside patio accomodated lots of guests, was comfortable, and a great spot for people watching on Broadway!

Most importantly, the food was wonderful---inventive twists on standard Middle-Eastern decisions. We loved the three mezes, two small plates, and caesar salad we ordered. Portions were plentiful and the bread incredible!!! I ordered the labneh cheesecake to eat on our drive back to Massachusetts. It was the tastiest cheesecake I've ever eaten. Prices were very reasonable and we can't wait to return on our next trip to NYC!

The food was great! Will definitely come back here. My only two complaints: we had a brunch reservation for indoors, but when we got there the weather was nice and there were plenty of empty tables outside and we asked if we could sit outside. But hostess would not budge...a take it or leave it attitude -didn't like that. Second complaint: the food came too quickly! Was hot and delicious! Next time, will order coffee/mimosas first, and then place food afterwards, once we've had a chance to enjoy our drinks!

Disappointed in second meal at Dagon. Two of 4 diners had the lamb, the most expensive entree($41). It was lamb’s neck and very fatty, stringy, and difficult to eat. Although it appeared they left a lot, each said they had extracted all of the edible meat. On the plus side, we enjoyed the Israeli salad, BBQ chicken, and cod, as well as flourless chocolate cake and cheesecake. Inside is unbearably loud, so we chose to eat outside, which even though it was on a busy Broadway sidewalk was quieter.

The food was truly outstanding. I loved every bite. I also thought they did a great job on making the place festive. The only challenge I had was the volume. It was hard to hear my dinner guest. But if that's the vibe you want, then come one, come all.

After hearing all our neighbors talk about the new restaurant in the neighborhood we decided to give Dagon a try. It was an amazing dining experience! Fun ambience, unique/delicious menu items, friendly service, great wine list. We had the vegetarian Tangine, flash fried cauliflower, special cornbread with tomato and Burrata appetizer , and for dessert the rose essences panna cotta. 5 stars on everything!
It’s nice to see a restaurant like this come into the neighborhood. Things are looking up on the UWS.

Quite disappointing. A bustling, extremely loud, frenetic atmosphere. Menu not very intriguing. Had the 5 mezze, which was slightly unusual and non the better for i though accompanying bread loaf was very good.. A cigar starter of lamb was underwhelming. Very fine wine, albeit at 400% over retail. Service pleasant Best part of meal was conversation with a couple at the next table. See no reason to return.

2nd time and I left on cloud 9 ...yet again!!! The food is fresh and bursting with flavor! The ambience is simply beautiful with a rocking 70ish yet modern decor. I had a wonderful time and will be returning in October for my birthday dinner!!!!!! Thank you Gil for the JOY :0)

And incredible dining experience! The food was unique and delicious. The wait staff helped us to pick out a perfect meal, and they were attentive throughout. The dips, salad, bread, entrée, and dessert(Silan!!!) all exceeded wildest expectations. Must have will definitely be back.
