Chinese
Welcome to the first U.S. restaurant by one of China’s most famous and influential Chefs, simply known as DaDong, located in the world’s most prominent location, just east of the heart of Times Square.

The restaurant has two main dining rooms with the second floor offering an energetic, stylish, sexy, and slightly gritty atmosphere and the third floor offering a more refined and elegant dining room. Designed by George Wong Design, it also includes an outdoor garden on the second floor and an additional outdoor terrace on the third floor, along with a few private dining rooms.

Excellent! Great atmosphere. Perfect for a business meeting and a delicious meal. Also, tremendous service. We’ll definitely be back.

The roast duck did not worth the price. The dish choices are not plenty enough.

Our server Connie is attentive and a pro. Drinks and water glasses were refilled promptly. Food was mediocre - sizzling beef, pea shoots, vegetable buns, avocado noodles but the 1/2 duck was very dry and bland. The sauces and accoutrements couldn't help revive it. Cod served in the skillet was a bit spicy but pretty bland as well - a little salt would have helped.

We ordered the combo for four people and the food had a really bad taste. The dumplings are iced inside and the meat was just like uncooked. When we told the manager, he asked us "do you mean the dumplings should be well done?". omg! I have never heard that dumplings can even be divided by the level of medium, medium well, and well done both in China and US. It is really a funny question! The appetizer almost ruined the dinner. The CHERRY FOIE GRAS was really disgusting and you just like eating lard. All the dishes look pretty and if you would like to come here for dinner, just take some photos and do not expect anything delicious.

A high end Chinese restaurant with fancy venue and expensive menu, It is however not DaDong quality, no where close.

Not traditional Peking duck really, and the dishes served not that hot, 3 out of 10 I will give to the taste of food. Not worse the price, will not recommend to anyone.

We have dined at DaDong several times in the past several months.
This dinner is the worst. The food is poorly prepared, and the service is terrible. Our waiter was always busy and does not pay any attention to our table. We had to waive to him several times whenever we need service.

Very upscale Chinese restaurant that specializes in roasted Peking Duck. Da Dong is actually a branch of a famous Beijing duck restaurant. Service was attentive but not pushy. Good wine list.

The menu is well focused and the food was excellent, although portions were small for our table of 5. You will need to order 1-2 additional dishes per person in addition to a half or whole roasted duck. The whole duck comfortably fed 5 people.

Environment and location are pretty decent. Service is great. Speed of food is relatively slow. Quality of food varies. The roasted duck is not that awesome as we expected but ok for whomever wanna have a taste of Peking roasted duck. Instead, the asparagus and kungpao shrimp and the Zhajiang noodle are surprisingly good. All in all, a lovely experience.

We had an early dinner. The restaurant was empty when we arrived. However, the service was very fast. They brought our Peking duck while we just received our appetizers. We asked the waitress not to rush us, but that didn't help. They served us the duck while we still ate the appetizers. I would never go back again.

I went for the Duck, is it as good as in China? Yes, it is. I also had the fish dish, not available in China and it was every bit as good as the Duck. The service was outstanding. I would go back.

Service staff were not sensitive to the fact that we had a broadway play to catch even though we mentioned it a number of times, including before we ordered. It caused us to be late to our show.

I was surprised by this given its location would make this a pre-theatre dinner spot for many.

Very disappointed esp since I’m a regular at da dong.

Disappointed with the RW dinner here: very loud, had a small problem about the service, some good menu items but very disappointed with my entree of "pork two ways"; one way was sweet-and-sour pork chunks with pineapple, not too bad but not really interesting; the second way was five 4-inch slices of bacon! Is this really worth the money, even at Restaurant Week prices? The restaurant is smaller than I expected, and in light of this experience I would not return.

When we arrived we were notified that AMEX machines were down for a few days
Seems very unlikely considering that one machine runs all charges through a central clearinghouse
Clearly they don’t want to accept AMEX
That should have been notified at point of reservation through Open Table
So the let down goes both ways... the reservation taker. Open Table and the restaurant.

Came to check out DaDong for Restaurant week and overall it was a nice dining experience. The location of the restaurant was a bit different from what Google Map indicated, but the decor and interiors were beautiful. We ordered the sweet/sour spareribs, half Peking Duck and crispy pawns, with mango stick rice for dessert, and all items were really just mediocre in flavor (though beautifully presented). The Peking duck was especially disappointing coming from such a prominent Beijing brand; texture of the meat was mushy and limp, skin was crispy but overtly dry, overall very bland in flavoring. Service was prompt and attentive, noise level was tolerable. Unfortunately given the lackluster flavors of the food I will not be able to recommend DaDong to friends or return for another visit.

The critics panned this place when it first opened and perhaps it struggled to find its footing at first. But those struggles are plainly over and DaDong has hit its stride. First, both the interior and outdoor space are extraordinary by any standards, but particularly for a Chinese restaurant, even an upscale one. The outdoor space is above street level and thus offers a remarkable respite from the nearby bustle of Times Square. Inside is grand, yet understated, with plenty of visual wows, but still a Zen-like calm. The food, in a word, is sublime. Using only the freshest ingredients, the kitchen spins gold out of the dross of standard Chinese fare and offers delicious items I’ve never seen anywhere before (rich, black squid-ink soup, for example). And it’s all presented with panache and refinement. Is it cheap? No. But for those who say it’s overpriced, I say look around. Where in New York can you get food of this quality, with such good service in such a beautiful, tasteful setting? Nowhere. Indeed, given all you get for your money, I’d say the pricing is entirely reasonable. So go. You’ll be very pleasantly surprised.
