I was disappointed in our experience at Daddy O. The dining room is nice and our server was very pleasant. The food was okay but not great and no where near exceptional (where it should have been based on the prices). The wine markup is obscene ($65 for a bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc that it usually about $13 in a liquor store). Overall, I would spend my money elsewhere as there are many excellent restaurants on LBI that offer far better value.
Food is very good. It's pricey and the portions are small but the food is delicious. They have a very nice upscale bar. My biggest complaint was that our waitress was pushing "extras" and add ons such as mocktails for the kids that were very pricey as well as a lobster tail add on and other things. It seemed as if she was doing anything she could to increase the final check. I found this very annoying.
We made our reservation on OpenTable and were greeted and seated immediately after entering the restaurant. Anyone familiar with LBI history may remember this place as formerly being Wilma's. They seemed to renovate this nicely with an upscale aura. There's a private lot across the street for parking.
I would have to classify this restaurant as pretentious. You would think it would be fine dining, but after looking at the menu, they just seem to have a limited supply of overpriced food with little or no culinary imagination. I would be surprised if they have an accredited chef on staff.
We started with a bottle of Malbec ($50-- which would retail at $12) and some appetizers. Breaded Wisconsin Cheese Curds for around $12 and deliver about 6 slivers of cheese and some fried breading on the side. Tasty, but greasy. We also ordered the Old Bay chips which were served in a funnel cone with aioli sauce on the side. Not too bad except my son's Lobster Roll ($28) also came with the same chips on the side. And speaking of the Lobster Roll, for the price, you would think it would have more lobster than mayo and be served on a roll slightly bigger than you'd get from a Bar Harbour food truck.
Our party included 2 vegetarians as well-- my wife and daughter-in-law. Not too much on the menu for them. Fortunately we asked Caroline, our waitress and a very good one as well, who mentioned they have a separate menu. Good thing we asked. My wife ordered the Veggie Oichiette while I ordered the Crab Oichiette. If you look at the photo's taken, it would be hard to distinguish which was which. If you look very carefully, you could distinguish 1-2 small white lumps of crabmeat probably weighing no more than 5 grams total. The major difference though was the price---- Veggie for $18 and Crab for $28. A major disappointment. I would have been better off with the Veggie.
Had our celebratory wedding anniversary dinner at Daddy O. Superb restaurant! The food, beverages and service was excellent!
For our next anniversary, we will plan on having dinner at Daddy O's roof-top restaurant.
Only issue was the loud talking and laughing emanating from the table directly behind us.
Food was average and was way over priced even for Long Beach Island. They are trying to be a high priced restaurant but they use young seasonal help. If I am paying good money for food which I don't mind I expect the service to be in par with the pricing. The kitchen never sent out our appituzers and the waitress didn't catch it. I would expect much better service for the high prices.
Had an awesome experience at Daddy-O's. The atmosphere had a great feel with a built in fireplace in the wall. Our waitress, Courtney, was very nice and prompt with bringing out our food. The food was extrodinary and had a great presentation. I will definately be coming back again and again for a great time and cuisine.
I wanted to be wowed by the place, but it missed the mark. The food was decent, but I expected better. At the bar, the lights were too bright. They dimmed it after 4 pm as we were about to leave. It gave a better ambiance. We headed to the rooftop deck. The view is not bad. You ca n see a sliver of the beach. Sadly champagne was served in a wine glass. *groan* for professional drinkers like us, the glass makes the drink. I'm still glad we checked this place out.
Food was good. Service was great. But the restaurant was extremely overpriced. $71 for a steak!!!(we didn't order that!). For 6 people the bill was way over $400 and we didn't even order any dessert or coffee! It would be a nice ""special night out" place, but not for a regular dinner.
Large hotel and larger restaurant which has several rooms including outdoor patio and upper deck. Didn't feel lost in a cavernous space. Exceptionally friendly and efficient service but never felt rushed. Ambiance is upper level for a beach venue but not stuffy.
Prices may seem high-ish but servings are very large and well prepared and presented. Overall there is a good value. This was our first visit and i we will be happy to return.
Waitress was terrible. She was clueless. Maybe it was her first day working as a waitress?? The $41 center cut filet was overcooked and dry. The sauce was awful which couldn't be avoided because they dumped it on the filet. Also, certainly not worth $41. Cheesesteak flatbread was good. Tuna tartare was okay.
