Da Flora is an Italian restaurant that sits just on the outskirts of North Beach in San Francisco. Locals cherish this beloved restaurant for the painstakingly prepared meals and romantic atmosphere. During dinner service, the Murano glass chandelier is dimmed to create the perfect ambience for an intimate dinner, while the candlelit tables invite guests to sit and relax for a delicious meal.
Da Flora's Chef Jen McMahon has traveled extensively through the Italian countryside and urban centers to perfect her special brand of cooking. Her dishes take the heart and soul from traditional recipes and infuse them with a personality all their own. House-made sweet potato gnocchi in a sherry cream sauce with bacon and sage as well as Sicilian rosa bianca eggplant caponata crostini are perfect examples of the unique perspective Da Flora brings to the plate.
This is my boyfriend’s favorite restaurant soooo for his birthday I had to take him here! I am vegan and he is not but the staff was super accommodating! I am still dreaming of the pea crostini appetizer! I gave them notice of my dietary needs and they made a delicious pasta with artichokes and asparagus !!! My boyfriend had spare ribs and he loved them! They also brought out a cake with a candle for his birthday! It was super great! The food was delicious, the ambiance is always lovely and it was super special!
A feel-good, taste-great experience -- will add it to the list of local SF, family-owned businesses I want to support. As a native and advocate of our city, I hope Da Flora flourishes and shines in its honor of tradition, personal-touch and identity. A real craft it is, to so authentically entertain and delight restaurant guests, that Da Flora masters.
Great food good experience all around
My husband and I shared the Fava Bean Crostini.. very nice, overall, but could have used more salt, and cracked pepper, which was not on the table. I enjoyed the Risotto with Duck Ragu..but it was rather ordinary. My husband's dish, the Nettle Tagliatelle, had a truffle creme sauce, and was much better. We shared the Butterscotch Budino, $13, which did not have much flavor, and would not order again. Overall, nice atmosphere, and pretty good food.
Everything here is excellent. Last visit was shared a Cesar, Sweet potato gnocchi and Pesce en brodo. The Pesce en brodo was mind blowing.
All we ordered was delicious as usual, service is warm, friendly and professional. Old world Italian decor and small number of tables so pretty quiet.
Lovely owners and delicious food & wine! I recommend sharing lots of dishes.
This is the perfect spot to bring your friends who love good food and who want to be able to carry on a relaxed conversation. It's great to be able to hear one's dinner companions without shouting. Especially because you'll be hearing your friends say yummmmm as they enjoy their meal. The Sangiovese by the glass is SO GOOD, just get a bottle. It opens up beautifully and is the perfect complement to any dinner. Service is attentive without being obtrusive and the food, ah the food, every dish is just wonderful. I had the pesce en brodo, my friends had the risotto with duck confit and the manicotti with spinach and ricotta. We were all absolutely delighted and completely sated.
The food, wine, service, and ambiance were all wonderful. I was surprised by the final tally, though. Next time I'll take the 3 dollar signs more seriously.
Amazing service as always!
Another perfect dinner. Keep doing what you're doing!
A hidden gem in every sense of the word, where the food is simple perfection, the menu never less than enticing, the wine list short but perfectly matched to the range of food flavors, and an ambience that makes it appear Jen McMahon has invited you to her house for dinner.
Amazing food at reasonable prices with personalized service.
Wonderful, friendly place with good food
Wonderful as always, thank you.
This place is still a hidden neighborhood gem after all these years! It feels like you’re a guest in someone’s home. A great place when you want o have good conversation and great food.
Wonderful location, amazing food, lovely ambience. A neighborhood gem.
I heard a lot of good reviews and that’s why we went. It was OK. Overall nothing was bad but nothing was great.
Everything was perfect. We will be back. Thank you thank you. Excellent
What a GEM!!! This may have been our favorite restaurant in SF! Super small - 11 tables ... MAKE A RESERVATION!!! Started with the gnocchi - nothing short of fabulous! Both the scallops and halibut special were exceptional. The owners - chef, Jen and partner in crime and life, Darren - have a hands on approach and truly want you to have an exceptional evening. They exceeded and then some!
One of my top two favorite restaurants in San Francisco! I love this place, from the outstanding food to the top-notch wine list to the romantic and quirky atmosphere to the warm and friendly staff. Great value as well!
An amazing experience from start to finish. Charming space, perfectly attentive staff, and wonderful, inventive meal. Da Flora will be on my short list whenever I’m in the city.
Best restaurant in San Francisco!
Fabulous as always!
First time dining at the restaurant and had a wonderful meal and experience. Will definitely return and have already recommended to others!
Lovely ambience as well as a fresh, creative, delicious menu. Highly recommend.
I love this place and was excited to show it off to a friend from DC. The atmosphere and service were great and welcoming as always, and my friend LOVED his food. I loved my app. But I could not bring myself to say aloud that my main dish—the pork chop—was just bland and dry. It is a cut that I never order out because it almost always is dry and over cooked. But I chanced it, hoping it would be like the perfect pork chop I had on a prior visit. Sadly, no. I still love the place and cannot wait to go back. But no more pork chops!
Exceeded my expectations and food was fantastic, service top notch , friendly, professional. Highly recommend!
I rolled the dice after looking online for San Fran restaurants and made reservations here. It is a small restaurant and the service and food is what I expect when going to well known 5 star restaurants. Our water was very knowledgeable on the menu and wine to pair with it. Next trip to the Bay Area we plan on going back
Intimate, eclectic, romantic place to enjoy fresh, delicious and authentic food.
I think De Flora is a sweet and romantic restaurant. The food is always fresh and delicious. It’s one of my favorite places to eat in North Beach.
Fantastic service, and the Pork Chop dinner was excellent , can’t wait to return.
Jen carries on the tradition established by Flora and MaryBeth, serving among the finest food available in SF!!
It was an exceptional meal, that included amazing service in an environment that was like being in someone's home. My only regret was that I waited so long to try this place.
Best Gnocchi my wife and I have ever had. The waiter recommendations were all on the money.
One of our favorites when visiting SF. Always great!
We went to Da Flora for my fiancee's birthday. Da Flora was a win across the board! The food was excellent, from apps to entrees to homemade bread.
The service was also wonderful--our server was friendly and made some amazing recommendations. They were even able to accommodate us when we needed to add two more friends to our party.
A fantastic gem in the heart of North Beach. Great Venetian-inspired dishes and a small but well-curated wine list.
Da Flora has very good food, the service is excellent and it is possible to talk rather than shout. All of this in a comfortable room , pleasantly decorated. I can't ask for much more.
A gem of a restaurant. Quiet, airy, attentive service, excellent food. Could not have been more pleasantly surprised.
