Cozy and cool atmosphere, great location, right off of Michigan Ave, food was AMAZING
Six of us had dinner during our yearly movie weekend. We were seated in a cozy quiet corner booth where we enjoyed a great dinner and good conversation. Both the chicken pot pie and shepherds pie were delicious.
We celebrated the birthday of an authentic Irishman with an authentic Irish breakfast. He was delighted.
The food exceeded our expectations and the atmosphere was nice
Food was standard pub food; nothing to write home about.
Food was amazing & the best drinks!!! Love the atmosphere.
Brendan the owner runs a very tight ship!
Nice local dining experience in terms of ambiance and food quality. Service was good and helpful in terms of selecting a beer. The Brussel sprout soup was particularly good. I’d try the corn beef cabbage sandwich next time. We both had blackened salmon salad which was good but not spectacular. I live in the neighborhood so it’s nice to have a cozy bar for casual dining close by.
Went for the second year with my teen grandson to celebrate his birthday.
We both enjoy sitting by the fireplace; and he, the best and biggest Reuben around.
Knowing it was his birthday, the waiter brought warm bread pudding topped with a candle, 2 little plates and spoons for us to share the delightful treat.
We'll keep coming back!
Try the Poutine fries !! Most excellent choice. Very nice servers ... always great ambiance
We shared a dinner salad and grilled cheese (with sun dried tomatoes and bacon) and they were wonderful. Perfect for the light and tasty food we prefer for a late dinner with drinks after a movie. Located right behind River East theaters, this is a perfect after-movie location. Service was impeccable and gracious.
Good, reasonably priced food, is fast becoming a rarity in Chicago. D4 manages to accomplish this feat while providing a pleasantly cozy atmosphere. We were greeted immediately, seated, and our server appeared shortly thereafter. As we were early diners, a Happy Hour menu was proffered with several surprisingly affordable appetizers. I chose a three-slider combo; two burgers and a pulled-pork selection. The burgers were juicy, slightly charred, and smoky. Topped with Irish cheddar and balsamic braised red onion, these were condiments that complimented, rather than overpowered. Pulled-Pork was obligingly tender with a house-made sauce and Jicama slaw. My French Onion soup selection was simply average. My wife had a small order of fish and chips which could have easily been shared; fresh and flaky beer battered Atlantic cod, house cut fries, coleslaw, and a lovely dill-infused tartar, made for a lovely entree. Worth a visit, D4 is much more than the sum of its parts.
Oh man it was great. The food was delicious, the service was amazing and the beer was yummy. 10/10 would do again.
We eat here pretty often, and the food on this evening was very good, as usual. One point that may make us a less frequent visitor--we like to have soft drinks with our meals, and most restaurants have fountain drinks with free refills. For $2.50 to $3.00, one would anticipate refills. D4 now serves Coke products in those little 7-8 ounce bottles for $2.50. I think the Coke we bought when I was a kid 50 years ago was the same size bottle and cost a dime in the vending machine.
Great neighborhood Pub
The food was delicious (I ordered the fish tacos) and service friendly and enthusiastic. The ambiance is lively but not at all frantic, and the music wasn't noticeable which is such a rarity at restaurants these days. We were able to have a conversation at normal volume of speech.
In September, I spent a few weeks touring Ireland. My kids were jealous. So this weekend, after Blue Man group, I took them to D4 to try some Irish fare. Let me say that the interior and atmosphere at D4 was classy and very comfortable. Staff was friendly too. The food was excellent, but the only Irish fare I saw on the menu was Shepard's Pie and Fish & Chips. My kids ordered American, so it obviously didn't matter haha! The highlight of my meal was the Crispy Brussel Sprouts with melted Brie and Bacon. Heavenly! I would definately visit D4 again.
Good food and great service even for our group of 8. They have gluten free options too which is great.
We were in Chicago for New Years Eve. I booked D4 online from England a couple of months ago, after a lot of research to find a venue for NYE. We weren’t disappointed. A lovely warm welcoming atmosphere when we arrived, led to a cosy table by a real fire. The food was tasty and the service was excellent, friendly and just the right amount of attention.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at D4 and would definitely recommend to friends...
Lawrence & Ally are the best bartenders ever!
The server Johanna was excellent and had the best personality. Give her a raise.
D4 Irish Pub!!! Absolutely a wonderful experience! Our waiter Juan was fantastic and the food was FAST !!!! I highly recommend D4!!
Had a party of 12 - my kids and their friends. had a great time. Very good service
Salads were only made with kale. That us OK but we should have been told this. I have eaten at this restaurant many times and the salad greens were not only kale.
I love kale m, but was not appropriate for the Niçoise salad and the side salad.
Just stopped in for mini sandwiches & an Irish beer.... a nice experience!
Excellent food! The best BBQ sandwich I have had in my life! Really pleasantly surprised and exceeded expectations across the board! Off the mile path but worth the trek!
Great food and draft selection. A neighbor hood gem
We had brunch here again after a movie at the AMC River East. Again, we were very satisfied. The food was very good, the portions large, and the cost was still less than most other places we have eaten. The BBQ pork sandwich was large, unique, and delicious. It included a layer of kale, giving it the unique taste. We were seated next to the fireplace, a perfect location for a cold Chicago day.
Always reliable. A clean , updated Irish pub. Very solid food. Excellent brunch.
Hostesses are pretty dim and not on par with the quality of the restaurant.
Arrived for our reservation and had to wait ten minutes for them to get our table ready. When we were seated, the hostess says to us, "We have a private party in this area in an hour. Will you be done by then?" French onion soup, adult grilled cheese, and baked brie was delicious. Skip the stuffed avacado - not good.
Personable and very friendly staff, great ambiance, and simply the best corned beef sandwich in Chicago! Be sure to sit by the fire and enjoy a Guinness!
Very cozy spot to get beers with friends - I like the big leather booths and energetic atmosphere. The food was surprisingly great!
Great food! My fish tacos were great and my friend’s grilled cheese and soup looked delicious. This place would be a nice, Cody spot for a drink or two on a chilly night. The servers were very kind and offered great suggestions.
Great place, super food and very friendly staff. Go and experience ...
We had a very pleasant early dinner at 5:00. Everything was perfect. The menu is not extensive but just the right size and type of food for an Irish pub.
Unusually slow service in the bar area this visit. Chicken strips are still the best!
The Sunday brunch is great. The breakfast sandwich was the best thing I ate in Chicago over the course of three days. The Bloody Mary is phenomenal as well!
Not your average Irish Pub! Deelish! Excellent menu! We had the tuna nicoise salad, lobster mac and cheese and the stuffed avocado!
