D4 Irish Pub and Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Nice local dining experience in terms of ambiance and food quality. Service was good and helpful in terms of selecting a beer. The Brussel sprout soup was particularly good. I’d try the corn beef cabbage sandwich next time. We both had blackened salmon salad which was good but not spectacular. I live in the neighborhood so it’s nice to have a cozy bar for casual dining close by.
Went for the second year with my teen grandson to celebrate his birthday.
We both enjoy sitting by the fireplace; and he, the best and biggest Reuben around.
Knowing it was his birthday, the waiter brought warm bread pudding topped with a candle, 2 little plates and spoons for us to share the delightful treat.
We'll keep coming back!
We shared a dinner salad and grilled cheese (with sun dried tomatoes and bacon) and they were wonderful. Perfect for the light and tasty food we prefer for a late dinner with drinks after a movie. Located right behind River East theaters, this is a perfect after-movie location. Service was impeccable and gracious.
Good, reasonably priced food, is fast becoming a rarity in Chicago. D4 manages to accomplish this feat while providing a pleasantly cozy atmosphere. We were greeted immediately, seated, and our server appeared shortly thereafter. As we were early diners, a Happy Hour menu was proffered with several surprisingly affordable appetizers. I chose a three-slider combo; two burgers and a pulled-pork selection. The burgers were juicy, slightly charred, and smoky. Topped with Irish cheddar and balsamic braised red onion, these were condiments that complimented, rather than overpowered. Pulled-Pork was obligingly tender with a house-made sauce and Jicama slaw. My French Onion soup selection was simply average. My wife had a small order of fish and chips which could have easily been shared; fresh and flaky beer battered Atlantic cod, house cut fries, coleslaw, and a lovely dill-infused tartar, made for a lovely entree. Worth a visit, D4 is much more than the sum of its parts.
We eat here pretty often, and the food on this evening was very good, as usual. One point that may make us a less frequent visitor--we like to have soft drinks with our meals, and most restaurants have fountain drinks with free refills. For $2.50 to $3.00, one would anticipate refills. D4 now serves Coke products in those little 7-8 ounce bottles for $2.50. I think the Coke we bought when I was a kid 50 years ago was the same size bottle and cost a dime in the vending machine.
The food was delicious (I ordered the fish tacos) and service friendly and enthusiastic. The ambiance is lively but not at all frantic, and the music wasn't noticeable which is such a rarity at restaurants these days. We were able to have a conversation at normal volume of speech.
In September, I spent a few weeks touring Ireland. My kids were jealous. So this weekend, after Blue Man group, I took them to D4 to try some Irish fare. Let me say that the interior and atmosphere at D4 was classy and very comfortable. Staff was friendly too. The food was excellent, but the only Irish fare I saw on the menu was Shepard's Pie and Fish & Chips. My kids ordered American, so it obviously didn't matter haha! The highlight of my meal was the Crispy Brussel Sprouts with melted Brie and Bacon. Heavenly! I would definately visit D4 again.
We were in Chicago for New Years Eve. I booked D4 online from England a couple of months ago, after a lot of research to find a venue for NYE. We weren’t disappointed. A lovely warm welcoming atmosphere when we arrived, led to a cosy table by a real fire. The food was tasty and the service was excellent, friendly and just the right amount of attention.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at D4 and would definitely recommend to friends...
We had brunch here again after a movie at the AMC River East. Again, we were very satisfied. The food was very good, the portions large, and the cost was still less than most other places we have eaten. The BBQ pork sandwich was large, unique, and delicious. It included a layer of kale, giving it the unique taste. We were seated next to the fireplace, a perfect location for a cold Chicago day.
Arrived for our reservation and had to wait ten minutes for them to get our table ready. When we were seated, the hostess says to us, "We have a private party in this area in an hour. Will you be done by then?" French onion soup, adult grilled cheese, and baked brie was delicious. Skip the stuffed avacado - not good.
D4 is truly one of my family's favorite restaurant. We love how the restaurant is always decorated so nicely for the Holidays. It reminds us of our visits to Ireland. And it is always so clean! The food is terrific and the servers are delightful. We are never rushed! Always a wonderful time. Thank You, Kathy
