We had a wonderful time. The food was great as always. Always have the Spicy Chicken Drops and the Grape Brie flatbread. Service was great.
We enjoy dining at the Currant. Due to the season, this weekend was not very busy, but during the boating season, it is hopping. The food was still great and the menu showed that some thought had went into it. Great gluten-free and locally sourced options.
We went for Friday fish and chips. The fries were in a cute little basket and very fresh crispy on the outside and tender. The fish was nice and meaty with the light coating on the outside very good. All in all it was a wonderful meal and a beautiful location.
I've eaten here for both brunch and dinner now and I've been amazed both times.
Great service, great food, very relaxing and comfortable. Wonderful menu selection but a little pricey overall. Would recommend to friends with warning its a little high priced but very nice place. Will go back again.
Badly outdated dining area, in need of paint and upgrades through out. The food was subpar given higher priced menus.
Wonderful menu! Everything that came out of the kitchen was a winner. The guacamole wontons with spicy strawberry dipping sauce was great as was their Margarita flat bread pizza. Best crust and sauce around. Also had the grilled chicken salad with berries and candied pistachios which was fresh and light. Polished the lunch off with warm peach cobbler. Incredible!
Great food and service. Nice beer and wine selection. We will be back.
We all had great meals! The short ribs were fabulous!
We thought we would try something new, and Current was the placed we picked. The Staff was great and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. We for sure will visit again in the future.
Great for families with kids!
Great spot...menu was full of great selections! Our table tried several appetizers, flatbreads and sandwiches and everyone loved it. The wontons were a favorite of the whole table!
Had a nice meal with my husband. The Pho was awesome...it took a little longer but it was worth the wait. Our waitress was upbeat and bubbly, and she was stopping by periodically to refill our drinks and checking on how we liking our food. it was a nice visit. We will be going back.
I had gone online to find a restaurant with a good patio where my husband and I could celebrate our anniversary and Current was on the list. The review said the patio was along the St. Croix river. Technically I guess you could say that's true (and it wasn't the restaurant that said that - it was in a newspaper article) but you couldn't actually see the river from the patio. So, that was a bit disappointing. But, the food was delicious and we had a great time. We'll definitely go back!
Grape & Brie flatbread keeps us coming back!! Excellent service, food selections and quality as always. A gem with great outdoors seating close to the river. Servers were and are always extremely pleasant, friendly and menu knowledgable. A continuing favorite especially when boating on the St Croix river. Easy boat parking. Thanks
This restaurant did not take Open Table reservations even though our seating was confirmed by the app.
Honestly I was a bit disappointed. I made reservations for a Mother's Day diner for my parents and family. When I booked the reservation it did not state anywhere they would only be serving appetizers. At this point it was about 630 in the evening on Mother's day and knew we wouldn't get in anywhere else. We would not have booked if we would have known they didn't have a full menu. The waitress was nice, however she forgot to bring out two of our flat breads we ordered. Once we realized they weren't coming we asked about them and had decided it was too far into the diner and for her not to bother. Then we were charged for said flat breads. We had to ask for plates, silverware, and straws- on separate occasions. It was very disappointing as it was for a Mother's day celebration, I would not go again for a special occasion.
A nice, tasty lunch after hiking at Afton State Park.
We had Friday night fish and chips. It was very good. They had the option of all you can eat or just a single portion. Was very family friendly and comfortable. A warm and inviting local find with good food and drinks. We're looking forward to trying some of the other things on the menu as well.
Tried Current for a family meal, including a 10-year old, a couple teens, 40/50 year olds and grandma in her 70s. Excellent options for everyone. Seafood (clams, mussels, salmon) were all prepared well and very tasty. Delicious pastas, and steak was a perfect medium-rare for my daughter. Shrimp flatbread was so-so, but it's flatbread so expectation wasn't terribly high! Friendly service. We were seated in the "upper room" and it was awkwardly dim (like a dark pub), but could be easily solved with a couple votive candles. Overall recommended, and I'd argue definitely worth the drive to Afton - especially in the summer!
Very nice restaurant, went there for brunch on New Years Day and was very pleased. Hidden gem in the east metro
I always enjoy Current. This was our first time here for brunch. It took about 10 min to get our drinks after we ordered and it was not busy at all. Fair service for not being busy.
Our server was great. He had good recommendations and was friendly but not overly. Food was delicious.
The fondue dish was not that good the cheese was more like a paste. Seems like it was not hot enough.
Great food and drinks. A very full night, the servers were very busy but did their best to stay on top of things.
Always a great choice! Love this Afton gem. Great service, fantastic food.
My husband and I went to dinner with another couple. We had a wonderful time - mostly due to the fact we love each others company so much. Please don't get me wrong, we like this restaurant and my husband and I will occasionally go back again but the kitchen was way to slow. This has happened before. I believe it took about an hour for our dinner to arrive. I'm not going to label this as; "The service was slow," because from watching other tables, it was clear the problem was in the kitchen. When our dinner arrived it was very good. Please do something to elevate this lag in the dining experience. Maybe have the waiter acknowledge that the kitchen got backed up, offer a small appetizer or something. It's a shame, but most people we know would not go back.
I took my Mother to The Current for Mother's Day. We had a wonderful time. It was a beautiful day and we sat outside with a view of the marina . The staff was friendly and courteous. We had the salad with salmon and it was cooked delicious. My only "complaint" would be that the service was a little slow, however they only had one server working at the time we were there and she was new. She did an amazing job though and kept a smile on her face the entire time.
The price point was a little high, however it was the two glasses of wine that were priced high. Next time , we skip the wine and just order food. If you do that the prices are pretty reasonable.
I definitely will go back.
This is our go to stop for a low key date night. Burgers and salads great. Entrees yummy if you want to get a full meal. Staff usually great- they were a little overwhelmed on Valentine's Day.
Our experience with Current has always been good. On this particular evening we had a wonderful waitress that was very helpful and attentive. The food was very good and the nose level was low enough that we could talk very easily. Another great place to have dinner in the St. Croix Valley.
Our family of 6 ate here after skiing. The food was excellent! Both adults enjoyed the good food and drink selections - nice craft beer selections. The children (well behaved and 6 & under) were right at home and enjoyed the food as well as the children's menu to occupy them while waiting. We will return and highly recommend this place. Price for us all was reasonable.
Terrible service and a staff who could care less. I'm all for supporting local restaurants but I'm done with this place. A staff more concerned with their mobile device than the needs of customer. Our food came out in "stages" so some where done eating before others received their meal. Lack of concern or care from staff so will NEVER be returning.
Todd was an awesome waiter and recommended the best Old Vine Zin's we have ever had! (2013 Girard). We had sweet potato fries and a flatbread as an appetizer. Both were excellent. All of our entrees were well prepared, fresh and flavorful! Would highly recommend.
we enjoyed sitting outside on the patio.
our waiter was very informative.
The town of Afton provides at least 12 free, high quality boat slips for the general public. So, you can tie up almost any size boat about a 100 feet from the front door of the Current. And if you are out of gas, there are 2 marinas about a 100 yards in either direction from these slips.
Great food, great service. What more could you want?!
Docked our boat at he Afton public docks and walked the short distance here for dinner. This place is the best it's ever been. Food was excellent, staff and service was great and very friendly. They have done some great and creative things with the menu. This is definitely a cut above your standard standard bar & grill kind of food. Nice outdoor dining area. Didn't do the wine this time but it looked good, and they have a great local beer list on tap. This is a must-stop place whether you're cruising the river, or the hills on a bike or in a car.
The menu is awesome, but the food was made to perfection. The execution was amazing. Incredibly tasty food. I would love to come back.
The Spicy Chicken Drops on the small plate menu were fabulous! The Apricot and Apple Salad was unique and good. The flat bread pizza on the kids menu was more like a pizza than flat-bread which was to my children's liking. I didn't really care for the linguine and chicken but I would still go back again to try more dishes. I wish I would have tried the salmon and Wisconsin Guoda Fondue
