We enjoyed our dinner a Cugino's. Unfortunately they are going out of business and closing for good at the end of March. As a result they have run our of wine bottlesand are not restockng. Steamboat will miss a good Italian restaurant when it closes.
Place was empty. At that point I should of left. We were seated and our waiter came over. He asked if we were Italian. I said yes and he said me to. We put our appitizer inane he disappears. He kept coming over and saying he was sorry. The staff looked like no one knew what they were doing. When it came it was cold. We ordered dinner and again he vanadhed. The manager came over and apologized for the wait. We waited over an hour to get our food. The order was wrong. The portion was so small my son was still hungry. I had to order more food. Poor staff, poor food and kitchen staff looked dirty. Will never go back.
Have been here a few times in past visits to Steamboat and was very pleased with the food and service. So decided to bring the in-laws and was very disappointed and embarrassed because I talked the restaurant up to them and am the one who chose where to eat. It’s as if they were closing for the season, but season doesn’t end for a few months, as they were out of a lot of items and missing menus. Food portions seemed to be smaller than I remembered, service was a lil slow and no more complimentary tiramisu. Will be very hesitant to return or recommend in the future.
Great food, great service, friendly staff.
I am so disappointed. We’ve dined here once a year for the past six and have enjoyed ourselves. Tonight was not the same restaurant. I made reservations for 4 and was shown to a table set for 4 with 2 chairs. The hostess disappeared. I thought she was getting chairs but after a few minutes we found 2 ourselves. The waitress was friendly and prompt. The only red sine available was a Pinot noir. It was fine. My husband ‘s lasagna was so burnt in the bottom. Inedible. My pasta was good and my sons enjoyed pizza and spare ribs. The waitress comped our wine and lasagna. That was very nice of her. It wasn’t her fault. The food took over an hour. The place was dead. I’m sad we won’t be back.
Restaurant was half empty, and it took a long time for the food to come out. They ran out of lasagna so we couldn't order it. How does that happen at an Italian restaurant? Calamari tasted burnt. The kids' main course came out before ours and they were almost done before we started eating. The meal took almost 2 hours! The food was average at best, definitely not worth the wait.
The service was bad. They served us burnt pizzas and it took an hour with no one there. The pasta dish came out 10 mins after the burnt pizzas.
I have eaten at Cugino's a few other times and never have been disappointed. I was there this time with 3 other people and all enjoyed their dishes. The waiter was most attentive and engaging. Unfortunately the night we were there they were out of a few things that were requested because they ran out of supplies after the Carnival Weekend (the place was packed) and were waiting for deliveries. So one goes with the flow and gets something else.
I have to say that tonight’s dinner was the absolute worst we’ve had in Steamboat in the last 20 years. We made a reservation for 7 people for 5pm, a full 2 hrs prior to the start of the ‘extravaganza’. I called about 2pm today to see if we could add 2 ppl. The person I spoke to said that if we had planned to be done by 630, that shouldn’t be a problem which I assured her we wanted to be out by no later than 630.
Fast forward to dinner.....We arrive and are taken to a table set for 6, not even our original 7. The host then takes us to a table for 8 and we have to ask for the 9th chair to squeeze two chairs on the end. We ask for a cocktail list and there isn’t one. We ask what Gin is available and she says “giant gin” which as far as we know, doesn’t exist. We ask for a wine list and there isn’t one. Very odd for an Italian restaurant. We let the server know we needed to be out by 6:30 when we order our first round of drinks and she says no problem. Keep in mind, we are 1 of 2 tables in the restaurant at this point. We order our food when the first round of drinks come (1 salad and 7 entrees) which is about 530. We ask for a bottle of wine and we are told “we aren’t doing bottles tonight, we’ve been booked for 3 months and just can’t do it”. So we can order unlimited glasses of wine but not bottles??? At 620 we still don’t have any food, not even the salad and we ask about it. We are told 5 min more. 6:30 we ask for the check and let her know we need our food, she returns with the check for just 2 of our party. We have to explain that we want the whole check. By the way, still no food. 6:40 some of the salad and some of the entrees arrive. 6:50 the last of the entrees arrive. At this point, the lights are going out at howelson hill and we all have to inhale our food and rush to make it across the bridge.
No manager came to see us, nothing comped, and our night filled with stress and questionable food quality.
So terrible. Had a reservation but there were only 10 other people there. Very empty but warm on a cold night so we sat. Waited 30 minutes for service before going to the bar for a couple bottles of wine. The bartender was surprised no one had come to serve us. She let us taste a couple things but they had a minimal selection. We got one bottle, returned to the table and waited another 15 minutes to see our server. We were served an appetizer we did not order but some people in our party of 6 weren’t aware so they started eating it. We ordered one other app and the food was pretty tasty. We ended up leaving because they didn’t ever offer to take our dinner order but quickly brought us the check for two apps and a bottle of wine. They were out of a lot and was a really really bad experience. Would never go back and would never recommend.
They had limited jug wine and enough vodka for one drink
The food was excellent though
Cute place with great location
Maybe the the purveyors are not extending them credit?
So sad. It’s a nice family restaurant
We had a very friendly and helpful waiter. The food was quite bad. We live here in town but just a couple weeks ago we brought our kids and grandkids for an early dinner. Never again though. The portions were so small that even our 6 yr old granddaughter was still hungry .my three cheese pizza had the nastiest tasting cheese I’ve ever had and I love cheese.
Our waiter was prompt, Curtis , and quite fun. He should work some place in town that he can serve the food he deserves to serve.
It took very long for the server to come over. The table next to us got up and left since the server did not come for over 10 minutes. Portions were small and cold and service was really bad. We had been their 2 Times in summer and it was OK. This was a very poor experience
Service was horrible, portions were small for the price and food was bland.
Greeted with a friendly smile but instant confusion the hostess didn’t even realize and we were there right on time for a reservation but we want to be seated fairly quickly she wasn’t quite sure what to do so we said we go to the bar for a drink come to find out this bar is very very not stocked at all there’s minimal drinks minimal liquors there’s no wine list. We were seated after an hour with the reservation ordered food came to the table it was cold ordered wine and wanted to order a bottle of wine, She did not know any wines and once you let us taste some wines those ones weren’t available so she brought a bottle that she didn’t know the price up and set it down on the table not opened for 20 minutes and was never opened. husband ordered meatballs and spaghetti, They forgot the meatballs but when they came out the meatballs were raw. They also brought this pile of chopped up bread but they look like they had put oil on and microwaved it it was so disgusting looking The food all tasted horrible, was all cold and the service was horrible we are actually complained about the meatballs and they let us leave mid dinner with the meal comped, we didn’t eat anything but we were really trying. Waitress also forgot to place a pizza we ordered, this used to be a wonderful place but we will never return . My mom and husband also if you notice the amount of cobwebs and dirt everywhere, their napkins were placed wet on the table and so my mom actually use the wet napkin and went and cleaned off the bathroom lights and vent because how bad and disgusting they were .
The service was excellent our waiter Joey was by far the best waiter we had our entire trip. He went out of his way to be friendly and even made me a special drink with amaretto when they did not have baileys Irish cream. My family enjoyed very much the time we spent there.
Food is amazing !!
Food took a very long time to come out. Tasted good and cute restaurant. Would go back but they need to speed up their service. The restaurant wasn’t too busy, many open tables, and food still took about 45 minutes.
They did not have a table for us. Said it would be 20-30 minutes before they could seat us. Then let us know even though we might get seated in 30 min the kitchen was so backed up our food would be about 90 minutes after we were seated. Nice of them to tell us but in a small town where reservation are important and we could not find anywhere else to go. Very disappointing
Food was OK I got the cauliflower "steak" it was actually just a few pieces of cauliflower cut up. Tasted good. Pizza was good. Service was very slow although the restaurant wasn't very busy.
We waited over 90 minutes for our food and even requested to get our kids dinners out first if possible but the only thing they brought out were burned chicken strips. We then waited another 30 minutes for the other dinners without food at which time we decided to just leave.
Food was good but took almost an hour or more to get food we were told it’s a new kitchen pizza was burnt and a salad was returned for missing g chicken. Manager was nice enough but kitchen was just overwhelmed. Overheard them yelling st each other to get it together.
They ambience was great as well as the service. We enjoyed the food and the price was a good value.
Service was really great and the food was delicious. Portions are moderate. We were surprised that they do not have a wine list, just house wines by the glass. First wine, a Cabernet, wasn’t all that good, but the Chianti was much better.
Very disappointing. Food took forever to come. Service was inept. Place was understandably nearly empty.
We have enjoyed this restaurant in the past but tonight was not a good experience. Understaffed for both cooks and servers led to extreme delays.
Very disappointing. Place was empty when we arrived. Only one person in the kitchen. Couldn’t serve half the menu because they were out of ingredients. This place needs to go. Time for a new concept and new management.
The service was really nice. My only complaint is that they were out of 5 or 6 things on the menu. Food was delish!
We had a bizarre experience at Cuginos. We went there after the other Italian restaurant we went to first had a 30 minute wait; we could walk right in here, which should have been a tip off. We sat inside and were the only diners inside; their patio was pretty well filled. Our table was missing some pieces of flatware so our waiter/the manager/the host/not sure who took items off of other set tables, which I thought was odd-clearly they weren’t expecting people to sit there. We were given menus but no drink menu. I asked for the drink menu; I didn’t receive it. I asked another person who stopped by our table (another server? It was hard to tell. No discernible uniform among the staff) about drinks and she said “we are out of a lot. All we have is red wine.” This is really strange considering this was a busy weekend in Steamboat. I decide to forgo wine. It takes us awhile for someone else to come over to take our food order. I see the bartender/chef (we saw him both behind the bar and in the open kitchen cooking ) pointing out that we need service to whatever servers catch his eye. We order and get our food in fairly quickly after ordering. Food was ok; nothing special. The chicken in my pasta dish was dry and over cooked. One of the servers (also who sat us down) comes over and says he will buy me a glass of wine and says he is the manager, which really confused us, because nothing about his demeanor suggested manager. I’m so turned off by the whole experience that I decline the wine. We pay, leave a tip that was probably too generous for the service we received and left. The best we can guess is that this place is closing soon and staff is now no-showing there and they are not reordering anything (like white wine) to restock.
The service was terrible--everyone we observed, from the hostess to the bartender to the wait staff was running around disorganized. We ate at Cugino's last year in the summer, and the service was fine, so maybe this is a temporary issue. After waiting 20 minutes for someone to come to our table after being seated, the waitress came to the table and instead of taking our order, said the restaurant was short staffed. I had to display discontent before she went ahead and took our order. We then waited 40 minutes for our food to arrive. We also watched two other tables walk out frustrated while waiting for someone to greet them at the table after being seated. The food itself was good, but we didn't order appetizer or dessert because we were concerned at how long it was going to take to get our food. We thought about walking out as well, but stuck it out. Hopefully, management gets this figured out, because the food is good.
Drinks brought after meal
out of 4 items on the menu
Chicken Marsala was horrible
We had a delicious charcuterie plate at the bar. That was the best part, downhill from there. Then we moved to the dining room where we discovered the restaurant was out of just about everything, including drinks. Get this, an Italian restaurant that is out of lasagna, on the kids menu even! Then it started to rain so we moved inside. One of the waitresses pointed us to a table then cleared that table of the place settings and said she would grab the aetttings from our outside table! What?! Why do that?
Our waitress was Tessa, she was great. When she brought our drinks, she told us they were on the house. That was a nice gesture. We felt bad for her because her management put her and the other staff members at an immediate disadvantage, one where they had to explain that they were out of just about everything on the menu.
We will not be eating there again. We overheard someone saying they “eat here every time they come to Steamboat” so it might have been good at one time, just not our night. First impressions are lasting impressions.
We eat at Cugino’s often. Great food, great value, comfortable restaurant and we love John the owner.
We waited 30 minutes at our table before we received our drinks or complimentary bread. Then we waited another 40min to get our food. The restaurant was only half full. Our waitress also got three of the orders wrong. I did not like the gluten free pasta at all. It tasked like rice noodles.
This restaurant is a block off of main street and has outdoor patio dining. I ordered the caprese ravioli and it was superb!! The best plate of ravioli I have ever had the pleasure of partaking! My husband had the lasange and it too, was very tasty. The portions were perfect and are accompanied by a house salad and bread as well. Will definitely return upon our next visit to Steamboat!
We had a very nice casual dinner on Cugino's patio Sunday evening and loved every minute of it. Our favorite thing about the evening was our waiter, Kody. A super waiter with a great personality, he made our night perfect. The arugula and prociutto pizza was fantastic. We are looking forward to coming to Cugino's every time we are in Steamboat!
Great as always. From the homemade pasta dish, to fresh and vibrant salads, to a delicious pizza for the table to share, Cugino's made it a great evening once again. John and his staff do a fine job.
We made a reservation early in the evening. The food was very good. The service was good. We ate outside to watch the people go by and had a good experience.
