Was looking for a restaurant close to theatre and found this gem of a restaurant. Food was very good-- had fish of the day which was delicious; every salad looked great but chose the arugula salad which was perfect. Wine and liquor reasonably priced. Service was phenomenally good. Atmosphere was lovely-- two medium sized rooms which were separated by a kitchen. One room had a very large skylight and the other was very comfortable.
I've been going here with my family for years. I hadn't seen the new space. Looks great!
The best value, nicest waiters and great food-neighborhood find!
Lovely and attentive service in this Lower East Side restaurant right off the curb. The Sunday night "early bird" was well worth it in price and quality. Very nice salad offered (soup which we skipped was also on the menu) along with a finely prepared sea trout with mushrooms. A glass of "jug" wine is also included. We sprung for the extra desserts and they were superb --- tiramisu, creme brulee and chocolate mousse! Just a short walk to other nightlife and to the Village.
We had theater tickets nearby so it was quite convenient. We were warmly welcomed and efficiently served and the value of the prix-fixe dinner was wonderful.
I don't know how they do it. The prix-fixe dinner is so good: Soup, salad, an entree and a glass of wine for $17.95!! WE love coming back to this lovely place.
My friends and I had a pretty awful experience at Cucina di Pesce a week ago. It took a while for us to even get menus, and service left a lot to be desired. I believe that there was only 1 waiter for the entire restaurant, both front and back sections, and it seemed like only one cook as well. After sitting there for 1 hour and 45 minutes, we still didn't even get our entrees. We ordered the "fried mushrooms with truffle dressing" for an appetizer and it was a sad little salad with a few sauteed mushroom slices on top and a few slices of cheese. No dressing of any kind to speak of. We asked to get the truffle dressing on the side at least since the salad had nothing on it and were given some lemon dressing without even a hint of truffle. If you don't have truffle dressing, simply don't put it on your menu. The calamari appetizer was also not great and the tiniest portion I have ever seen. The bowl with the sauce placed in the middle took up most of the plate and had a few scattered calamari pieces around it. The entrees, when they FINALLY came out, were very blah. Nothing tasted particularly good and you can get much better pasta at just about any other Italian restaurant. The fish was prepared well but that was the only dish we enjoyed. Overall a really terrible experience and the food was not worth the ridiculous wait.
My favorite neighborhood restaurant. The food is consistently beyond excellent. I don't know how the waiter manages to handle all the food orders as well as tend bar. BUT HE DOES!
Great price for early dinner that includes a glass of great red or white wine! Food was good and pricing for a full bottle of wine is reasonable! Definitely would go bac k!
This was our first time to the restaurant, and we were driven by a Blackboard Eats special. It's a cute little East Village restaurant, and the service was really nice. The food was nothing special, though, kind of like a decent diner. The seafood was a small portion and unexceptional sauce. Spinach salad had a dressing that didn't do much to help it. I was glad we got 30% off the bill, but kind of sorry I brought friends here. They need to get some more flavor into the food.
Don't let the name fool you. There are choices for every taste not just fish. The dining room in the back is comfortable for a large group. The food is fresh, well prepared and seasoned to perfection. The service was outstanding, our waiter was well informed about all of the items on the menu. I can't wait to go back for another fantastic meal.
Best meal in New York!!! You will not be disappointed!
Cheapest good Italian food you’ll find anywhere in the city. Classic old school with pasta on the side and $7 glasses of wine.
Neighborhood gem with good food and reasonable prices!
Wonderful fun restaurant. The staff is very attentive and professional... the food is quite good. A special east village experience.
Great, low key restaurant. Its my wife's favorite Italian restaurant. Simple menu, great food, excellent drinks (the Italian Job is my favorite), and the service is great.
Having been to Cucina di Pesce several times many years ago, I was surprised to see how it had changed. A much smaller space but a great improvement. There's a large room in the back, suitable for parties, but the acoustics seemed threatening. The front room, however, is cozy and comfortable. It feels much like some bygone West Village places. All white but with very warm lighting, it feels casually glamorous.
We started at the bar, which is intimate. The bartender (who may be the owner) was very friendly and accommodating. We shared the crostini, which was excellent. Seated at a table, we had a very nice but perhaps a bit too pushy waiter. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and was uniformly excellent, the wine less so (it was one of the cheaper ones on the menu, which is very affordable). The desserts are homemade and the two we shared were good but not spectacular.
Despite any of those, pardon the expression, reservations, my group is looking forward to returning very soon.
The food and service was excellent. We had the octopus, salmon and eggplant for dinner. For dessert, we had the tiramisu - the best I have ever had. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. Great find!
Want a great find! The linguini with mussels and calamari in a Fra Diablo sauce was excellent! Very quaint with a full bar. Had a reservation for the comedy club next and it was perf cr!
Excellent service and a delicious meal all around. Took my girlrfriend here for a quiet bite and had a very lovely time.
I made reservations a day or two in advance and we ended up sitting literally right next to the front door on what was perhaps the coldest day of the year. It was New Year's Eve with many people walking in and out, and smoke was coming out of my mouth when I spoke to my friend across the table. I told them that I had made reservations well in advance and asked if we could be seated elsewhere, and they said they could not accommodate us. We left without ordering anything and had a nice meal across the street.
Great food and so close to NYTW!
This is now our favorite go to restaurant. We had the Prix Fix dinner which was excellent and especially loved the barley soup and the fish. The place is charming and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Good desserts are an added plus.
For a Christmas Eve, after Star Wars, dinner, it was brand new to us and Very sweet, super friendly, and the food was fabulous. Definitely going back; a find for sure.
Food just OK. Service lacking as were
Great value for fresh and delicious fish. Neighbor gem.
Small and intimate.
Home made and authentic Italian staples.
Grilled Branzino was exquisite.
Cioppino really good; on the heavy side thou.
House made deserts; best of the bunch is the tiramisu
Cucina has always been a great place. The food is really good & not expensive. The people and the service are exceptional. It's been there 30+ years, so you know it's worth the visit.
I recommend it to everybody I know.
It is very a gem for this neighborhood. The food was delicious as always. The wine was cheap and good. It was quiet on Monday. The white bean's dip yummy……
Diner prices but an enjoyable and charming neighborhood place. Very happy with my fresh fish. If you're going to NYTW you can't go wrong. Pre-theater menu ends at 6:30. Verypleassnt and prompt waitstaff.
Warm and comfortable atmosphere as well as great service by a personable waiter. The Early Dinner Special complète with a glass of wine cannotbe beat. Food is good especially the home made vegetable based soup that comes with the dinner. Perfect location when one is going to the NY Theater Workshop right next door.
I would recommend this place if you are into personal pizzas, but that’s it. Pozza selection was good and decent size for one. The main pasta dishes were served in little bowls that looked like wide dishes. $14 for a little bowl of spaghetti with tomato sauce? Not what you would expect. The Caesar salad barely had any dressing on it. The meatballs were good. Service was ok.
I had the fried calamari, the linguine and clams, and the tiramisu, and all of it was delicious. The ambiance was great except that there was a cold draft near our table. The food is cheap, especially for the great quality, but I felt that the portion sizes were too small.
Good food and the front area is very cozy.
Only complaint: they dont take VISA, just American Express.
Great spot ! Great food! Great service ! Great value
Perfect pre theater dinner, great price and delicious. Directly across the street from La Mama , perfect place. House red and white wine delicious !
Friendly service and great place for meeting friends
Great pre-theatre meal. Very authentic, reasonably priced, charming, smaller restaurant. If you are near, its definitely worth stopping.
This is not my neighborhood, but I went to NY Theatre Workshop a few doors down from Cucina de Pesce and really wanted someone to cook me some fish before the play. I did not sit "outside," but the windows and door were open so the fresh air came through and allowed a certain amount of people watching without being on display. Service was quick, my Manhattan on the rocks delicious, the salmon in mustard sauce perfectly cooked, as was the linguine with garlic and olive oil. It was just the right "weight" pre-theatre dinner for me, a pleasant place to be, and I'll be back for dinner the next time I'm seeing a show at LaMama or NYTW or the Public (just a few blocks away).
I have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years. I have not visited in the past 5 yrs and found it to have the same outstanding service and delicious signature dishes. My favorite continues to be the Fussili Sun-Dried Tomato pasta dish. My husband had the black linguini with seafood and it was very good as well. Lastly, the prices are very affordable even if you treat yourself to a couple of glasses of wine.
We were a fan of this restaurant many years ago. Cozy and adorable. Food was average. Very reasonably priced. We ordered an appetizer but never received it.
