Cubano's by Mario
Step into Mario’s Catalina Restaurant and you instantly feel the hustle of the city fade. Soothing colors, soft lighting, crisp linens and fragrant aromas all conspire to transport you to a more tranquil setting.
While Catalina’s ambiance is undeniably appealing, dining out really is all about the food! That’s why co-owner and chef, Mario Flores, went to great lengths to create a menu of Spanish and Cuban dishes that complement each other. Mario is pleased to now offer Paella, which includes lobster, scallops, chorizo and many other delicious ingredients!
The result: authentic Latin food masterfully prepared. Add to that attentive service and a chilled glass of simply the best Sangria in town, and you’re well on your way to a memorable experience!

There cannot be a better host in the world than Mario. He is the most friendly and gracious host. His staff is professional and on top of every request often anticipating your requests before you even voice them. The food is very generous portions and Mario not only acts as host, but even pitches in and helps serve. We have never felt so welcome and truly appreciated for our business. He even sent us home with to-go cups. We cannot wait to come back!!
Great job, will return
Churrasco meat dish below expectations.
The best empanadas hands down, ever.
Excellent food and exceptional service. Mario's is the best.
Excellent dining experience, the food is exceptional!! Huge portions, great drinks.
Service was amazing and Mario was excellent, thank you!
Empanadas are always delicious, lamb shank was tender and tasty, Mario is a generous host 👍👍
If I could have given 10 stars I would have. We took two people with us who had never been to Mario’s and they loved it. These people have excellent pallets and they no good cuisine. They were blown away. The food was terrific as always and the service was excellent excellent excellent! Mario and his staff are outstanding. If you have not tried this restaurant, you owe it to yourself to go there. Enjoy your meal!
The best seafood I’ve ever had! I love it! We’ll be back for sure! Mario was amazing!
Food is delicious, all the right spices and cooked to perfection. Drinks are awesome. Dessert was great, and a Cuban coffee, just amazing. Service was great and attention to detail was incredible. Mario and all of his staff were so friendly and helpful. I will come back on my next trip for sure.
Absolutely delicious Cuban food and Mario is so welcoming. We only wish we lived here full time to make it a weekly visit.
My cousins and I had an amazing time at Cubano’s! We’ll most definitely be going back when we return to Fort Lauderdale, Fl.
We waited hours with reservations. The biggest issue was they never came to greet anyone! Not once. They did try to make up for it with sangria, but their customer service has to be improve. Mario was nice and this other guy I loved. The food was ok. Definitely recommend the empanadas.
Absolutely horrendous, me and my girlfriend came here for Valentine’s Day and it was THE worst experience ever. We had reservations and arrived on time. Their was several people waiting also with reservations, their was no host, and no one ever acknowledged us after waiting 50 minutes past reservation time. I heard from other couples that were there they were waiting up to 2hrs and even after they got seated waiting almost an hr for their waiter to show up. At this point me and my girlfriend had enough and left after waiting an hr without even being acknowledged! We had to order Grubhub for dinner and eat at home. Do not waste your time at this place, ruined our Valentine’s Day out!
We booked Cubano's on OpenTable for 7:45 for Valentines. When we got there it quickly became clear that they had overbooked and basically never limited the number of reservations they were accepting on OpenTable. We talked to some people that had 6pm reservations and still hadn't been seated. Couldn't even find a host/hostess to check in... people standing around everywhere looking annoyed. We didn't feel like being treated like that so we left and ate at another place after calling around to other restaurants for 15 minutes.
It was Valentine’s Day, so you must naturally adjust expectations. Even with considerably reduced expectations, this place was a disaster. The owner is a super nice guy, they overbooked and seated out of sequence. The food was meh. Service...so bad we were empathetic. I would not be surprised if other patrons submitted photos to the Ft lauderdale CDC social distancing team; to say that it was jam-packed stuffed with people to the gills is an understatement.
Horrible experience for Valentine’s Day.
The place was a total mess, the staff couldn’t care less and just ignored 50 people waiting outside.
Really unprofessional and zero respect of basic safety requirements around COVID-19.
End up leaving after waiting 45 minutes with no attention and no indication we would ever been taken care off.
Not sure about the food, never get a chance to taste it, but it didn’t look very appetizing.
Opentable should delist this place since they don’t honor their reservations.
We made a reservation for Valentine's Day, and we were able to sit table after 1.5 hours from the original reservation time. It was a big mess, and we left the restaurant without ordering the food. Thanks for ruining our special day!
Tasty food and good service even though it was Valentine's day and very busy inside and out.
Made reservations on Valentine's day. When we arrived (on time) the placed was mobbed, and people were queing up to try and get it. The Host was absent, and had not been seen for over 15 minutes, according to a couple ahead of us who had reservations as well. We left!
In spite of making a reservation,we decided to leave after 1 hour of standing in close quarters with other disgruntled potential diners waiting to be seated. Mario obviously overbooked the restaurant and in doing so, he disappointed a number of people looking forward to a lovely Valentine's Day dinner. Neither Mario or any of his staff acknowledged any of us who were packed together in a non_covid compliant setting. We even tried calling the restaurant while standing in the waiting area....no one answered the phone. I think an apology should be posted on the restaurant's website at the very least!!
WE DINED ON SUNDAY FEB 14 FOR THE 1ST TIME AND IT WAS A DISASTER. OUR WAITER TOOK OUR ORDER AND WE NEVER SAW HIM AGAIN. THE GUY THAT BRINGS THE FOOD TO YOUR TABLE HAD A NASTY ATTITUDE AND THE FOOD WAS BAD. WE DROVE 45 MINUTES TO EAT HERE AND I REGRET USING MY GAS AND MILES. HORRIBLE ALL AROUND.
Valentine’s Day was amazing staff so friendly and accommodating. It was very busy and they did the best they could to not rush people through. We booked 6pm it was good we did because people were lining up to get in. Very popular place and we will return.
The simplicity of the outside decor was no match for the beautiful interior. The eclectic yet classic decorations and warm ambiance set the scene for a wonderful dining experience. The staff was attentive and well prepared. It was even more delightful to have Chef Mario present, running and attending to our needs. The food was incredible, very delicious! In our opinion the best Cuban food in Fort Lauderdale.

Muy mal servicio nos levantamos de la mesa tan pronto escuchamos una gritería de malas palabras entre nuestro mesero y uno de los hombres en la cocina. El lugar estaba vacío y no entendemos lo que paso . No lo recomiendo
It was our first time here, and only because the open table website listed
All time slots available on Saturday before Valentine’s Day. Hoping for something different , however it turned out to be the most chaotic scene we have encountered. There was no host /hostess to greet , instead a line of waiting customers without getting even recognition of anyone’s
Presence. After about an hour standing in line , the owner , Mario, got around
To acknowledge us as customers
The small restaurant was completely packed Including a huge party of 30 people. Service was rushed and probably orders mixed up, hence we got the wrong dishes, although it was confirmed by Mario that we had grouper even though we knew it was
Snapper. The food was dry and not
According to description, aside from being totally overpriced. Wine list
Is mediocre at best and way overpriced.
it will be hard pressed to convince my family to come back.
I had reservations... no one even asked my name but they seated us. It was absolutely disorganized mayhem. In the age of Covid it was entirely too crowded. Had I not been vaccinated I would’ve left. The mojitos were awesome and the food was amazing once it finally got to the table. We asked for a wine list 3 times and it never made it to the table. That’s money they left on the table. The waiter was frazzled as was the maitre D
They totally overbooked on the Saturday night before Valentine’s Day. We had a reservation and waited an hour and still did not GEt seated. Others in the same boat - some left. People were not spaced for the wait as the place is too small. We come here quite often and this is the worst situation we’ve had with no apologies from the owner who was there. Very disappointing and concerning due to covid
Had dinner here the other night (2/13) and it started off pretty shaky but overall a nice evening at a nice restaurant.
So I found the restaurant on open table and decided to make a reservation. When arriving at the restaurant for my 7 o’clock reservation they were not that busy just yet. However the owner, Mario, was running around like a chicken with his head cut off. He was on the phone arguing with someone walking back-and-forth from outside to inside of the restaurant completely not acknowledging myself and my date was there. When Mario finally walked past us for the third time my boyfriend said excuse me we’re here to dine in he replies and says yes yes yes give me a minute. He asked if we have reservations I said yes he said how many people I said two then he says OK give him a minute and walks away. A server, which happens to be our server for the night, walks up to us and brings us to a table. Not two minutes after sitting down Mario comes over and tells us we have to get up we can’t sit here he has this section reserved for a bigger party tonight and there’s no way we can sit and have dinner there. It was very rude and I was completely turned off. My boyfriend however wanted to stay so he said let’s just change our seats. Mind you there was another couple sitting next to us and Mario said it so loudly and rudely that it was very embarrassing.
Anyway fast forward, we moved to another table our server took excellent care of us. Recommended drinks recommend food items and everything came out amazingly. We had mussels for appetizer, my boyfriend love them. I had oxtails, my boyfriend had the Mario special everything was really delicious. As we were leaving the restaurant Mario walks up to us out of the blue and apologizes about what happened earlier and brings us $100 gift card to make up for it which I thought was a classy move because we never even made a complaint so he knew he was wrong. Was a a good gesture. Looking forward to going back.
Very nice place super busy day before Valentine’s Day and they were moving as best as they can, was a good experience definitely will
Go back to try them out when there not so over the top busy I’m sure it will be and even better
We had an amazing dining experience! The food was absolutely delicious! We were more impressed by the OUTSTANDING customer service and by the owner’s interaction with his customers and staff. The attention to detail was greatly appreciated, especially since this was our first outing since before the pandemic! We will definitely return and we highly recommend this restaurant.
The food was amazing and service was perfect. We were glad to have reservations they got busy
We made a 7:30pm reservation for OUTDOOR seating and when we arrived and checked in with the host, he looked at us and had no idea about any reservation system (even after mentioning OpenTable). We waited for about 10 minutes for him to finally show us to a table which was INSIDE a completely jam packed restaurant with ZERO social distancing. We refused that table and he then told us to wait and he would "find us something". We waited and they put a table on the front patio for us tucked into a corner where a very large party was. We had 3 different employees come by and give us water and plantains yet no server to take a beverage order or food order. Finally, someone came to take our beverage order however she had no clue what type of wine was available nor what brand of wine it was. We decided on a house cabernet and it was mediocre. We sat for a while longer with no attention from a server and finally Mario came over to take our food order. We waited and waited and waited (Mario served us another glass of wine on the house) and after nearly an hour, the food was served. The churrasco and shrimp were grossly over cooked, the rice was cold and the black beans looked as if they had been sitting in a pot on the stove for days. Unfortunately we had a horrible experience and will not be dining here again.
Excellent Restaurant. Mario and his employees are fantastic. Had the fish on a Sunday it was delicious
Mario and his staff are excellent. He always is attentive and wants to make your dining experience the best.
Very good crew
Absolutely amazing service and delicious food
Mario’s was delightful, from the moment we walked in Mario himself walked us to our table, the table had white linens and he had a candle and a perfect dinner setting. Someone came to greet us after , to bring us water then someone else to take our order. We had a four course dinner it was so so good. We had paella, red snapper, steak, and five out of 10 deserves that they had available. We were from out of town I wish there was a Mario everywhere we visit . Excellent wine selection too !
Everything was excellent. The food and sevice was fantastic!
