Cubano's by Mario
Step into Mario’s Catalina Restaurant and you instantly feel the hustle of the city fade. Soothing colors, soft lighting, crisp linens and fragrant aromas all conspire to transport you to a more tranquil setting.
While Catalina’s ambiance is undeniably appealing, dining out really is all about the food! That’s why co-owner and chef, Mario Flores, went to great lengths to create a menu of Spanish and Cuban dishes that complement each other.
The result: authentic Latin food masterfully prepared. Add to that attentive service and a chilled glass of simply the best Sangria in town, and you’re well on your way to a memorable experience!

We are from Chicago visiting the area. We wanted to try Cuban food. We tried a bunch of things. We got the paella, empanadas, Mario's Beef and like 4 desserts. It was excellent. Mario, the owner, was warm and inviting. All the staff treated us well. The food was very thoughtfully prepared and super tasty. It was one of those places we'd come back again for sure. It is one of those places that are local...not a chain...that you bring your out of town friends and family too when they visit.
The family (wife and 2 children) were in town for vacation. It’s our tradition to try a series of restaurants unique to the area. We were greeted and immediately made to feel if we had been regular customers even though this was our first visit. The service very high touch, at least 4-5 to people worked together to bring our food, drinks, desserts, education us on specials, and even engage us in conversation.
The food was delicious I had lamb shank, would have appreciated a much larger portion but what I did have was prepared to perfection. Prior to the lamb I got empanadas, and a beet salad both on par with some of my best experiences. My wife got the fried snapper, said it was definitely above average but would try something else on the menu with a second visit, she also said it was even more delicious the next day. My daughter (19) really enjoyed her virgin Moito, pork chunks with beans and rice. Our son (16) got some sort of 3 meat dish which he was not able to finish ... he is 6’3 200lbs, so that says a lot. Like his mother thought it was even better the next day. The hit for us were this massive pan of empanadas they gave us for free at the end. Along with our desserts. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quite, classy, low light, culturally true, dinning experience.
It was an odd experience. Server/owner was just sitting at a table looking dejected. Restaurant was empty and food was just ok. Prices were very high for what you get and selection was odd including some Italian dishes... at a Cuban restaurant?
Amazing service that is matched by the food. Let your server guide your selections and you’ll be very happy. And get the mojito with “little sugar”!
Always outstanding service and food
I can’t say enough great things about our dining experience. Mario treated us like family . We were a large group of 8 and nobody was familiar with Cuban Cuisine . Mario put together a family size sampling of his favorites and it was wonderful.
I highly recommend Cubanos by Mario
Good food, service and ambience. Mario is a real character
Food was amazing, Mario is amazing whole experience was fantastic !
Wonderful food, outstanding service and an overall great atmosphere. My chicken and my husband's vaca frita were both great. Mario gave us a complimentary appetizer and dessert. All was wonderful!! We will be back.
Great service, food was very good, servers went out of their way to make sure we had a great experienced. at the end the owner showed up and again made sure that everything went well
We sit outside for safety reasons so you hear the traffic from Federal Highway but it’s far enough away so it’s not really a bother, We have been coming to Mario’s for a number of years now and the Spanish food is consistently good, flavors explode in your mouth, make sure you get the empanadas. They are delicaly fried meat pies in a tasty pastry, I have had empanadas all over Mexico, Central America and many other places, Mario’s are hands down the best, The Cuban bartender makes the best mojitos, Ithink she puts some love in each mojito...Ihave had most everything on the menu, whatever you pick will be a winner!
Always come Mario’s for any special events!
I really liked the ambiance and enjoyed the recommendation of skirt steak for my late lunch.
The food and service were exceptional. I had a whole snapper (fried.) It was amazing as was the octopus appetizer. The salad, sides and desserts were great. This was our second time and we brought a friend. . . Hats off to Mario and his staff.
Ambiance is very nice. You can tell the locals enjoy the restaurant. Mario is a very thoughtful host and wants to ensure his patrons enjoy themselves. Unfortunately the food did not live up to the reviews. Our entrees were overcooked and the salad was limp and overdressed. However, the empanada appetizer was tasty. Mario was aware that one of the entrees was overcooked and replaced it quickly.
Awesome experience, great food, great service and a definite stop when in the Fort Lauderdale area.
The service was impeccable, a swarm of people to assist. Definitely felt like a family run environment. Food was delightful. Loved the mojitos. Would love to come back.
Great food great service
As always, everything about our evening at Mario’s was outstanding. This is a beautiful space with both outdoor and distanced indoor seating. We dined indoors and and enjoyed attentive but not obsequious service. The sangria was better than ever and the veal shank special was transporting. Please do yourself a favor and dine at Cubano’s by Mario!
This place is fabulous! We were in town visiting but are already planning our next trip back. They are very accommodating with food allergies.
Mario is out on the floor and he and his staff are amazing. They are very attentive and recommend the best tasting things!
Not only was the food very tasty, but the sangria and virgin mojito were awesome, too.
I highly recommend this place if you are looking for yummy cuban food!!
Food is always awesome, They do something to the Empanada filling that makes your mouth water just thinking about them. I sometimes get the ox tail slow cooked in the oven and the meat is juicy and moist.
You can’t beat the mojitos and Home made Sangria, and the owner, Mario is one of a kind, he watches each meal that is served In his restaurant because everything has to be perfecto!
Our absolute favorite Cuban food!! It is a MUST when in Fort Lauderdale!
Love Mario's it is a great experience every time we go
Excellent food and service.
Mario is a delight and a generous, gracious host. The ambiance was lovely and the food was absolutely delicious. Try the empanadas for an appetizer. The oxtail special was awesome - and so plentiful I took home more than half. Don't forget the quatro leches cake! We'll definitely being going back!
Wonderful customer service and the food was delicious
Amazing. Mario and team continually impress. Love the food and service, each is top notch. Can’t wait to return.
Great food and service.
Found this jewel of a place and took my hubby here for his bday. The food was incredible. The chef is some sort of genius. The owner went out of his way to accommodate us and show us appreciation. The waiters were fantastic. Just thinking about the food is making me hungry all over again. I highly recommend! Especially for a birthday, anniversary, or date!
Overall, most of the food was beyond delicious! The churros o was the only let down. We enjoyed empanadas, yucca, salad, vacation Frita, chicken, and lechon. The sangria was amazing too, we had 2 pitchers. All in all, a great experience as Mario and our server were attentive.
Food and drinks were amazing, but what made the experience a 5 star, was the Owner and the servers, Dunia was incredible, she really represent the word “Service”, definitely coming back to eat here.
Everything is fantastic the service was great. We were a party of 8. The owner can get a little touchy and one of our guest was a little uncomfortable with this during Covid. Food is top notch for Cuban. Cant remember having better.
Mario is amazing! The food is even better!
Always a good meal, overpriced, but you can't beat the ambiance
We love Mario's
Best we’ve had in Miami.
When you are seated and the owner comes to greet you, asks if you've dined with them before and you say, "yes." Then the owner says, "I cook for you" and does not hand you a menu, you know it's going to be good. And it was. Mario never disappoints. We started with mojitos and empanadas. The main course was ropa vieja with fried fish and shrimp, and black beans and rice and plantains. Dessert was a decadent chocolate treat. Service was 5 stars all around, food was delicious--like eating homemade at your friend's house, and the atmosphere is always great. We sat outside this time, but inside is romantic and cozy.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is always delicious and prepared properly.
Their mussels are some of the best around. Good ambiance, service and good drinks.
Since I go there often, I'd like to see a little change in the menu even though they usually have a couple of specials ea. night
