Cubano's by Mario
Step into Mario’s Catalina Restaurant and you instantly feel the hustle of the city fade. Soothing colors, soft lighting, crisp linens and fragrant aromas all conspire to transport you to a more tranquil setting.
While Catalina’s ambiance is undeniably appealing, dining out really is all about the food! That’s why co-owner and chef, Mario Flores, went to great lengths to create a menu of Spanish and Cuban dishes that complement each other. Mario is pleased to now offer Paella, which includes lobster, scallops, chorizo and many other delicious ingredients!
The result: authentic Latin food masterfully prepared. Add to that attentive service and a chilled glass of simply the best Sangria in town, and you’re well on your way to a memorable experience!

They don’t actually have reservations to accommodate the reservations they say they have available. Made reservation weeks ago. Waited 30 minutes past reservation time. Finally gave up and left. No one even working in the front to check you in. They have nothing to even look up your reservation in sight in the front. Finally a very rude man came to the front to deal with pile of people all waiting for a table (since they claim they have availability). Interior looks nothing like pretty photo on their website.
Went for Mother’s Day and the food and service is great as always. Highly recommended.
Our experience at Mario’s was not very enjoyable. The first thing that we noticed was the unbearable heat; there seemed to be no AC on even though all the doors were open and there were tons of people there. Secondly, the service was bad. We waited long periods of time for any server to come to our table and often had to repeat our requests to multiple people. The food was good but did not blow me away, especially for the price. Based on my experience, I would not return.
Exceptional. Thank you! 🙏
Barley acknowledged since the minute we arrived . Will never go back
Essentially ignored by waitstaff for 20 minutes (we walked in thru the wrong door at first). No greeting, finally asked if we had a reservation. just waved to a bad table in the middle of traffic, despite having a reservation. No accomodations could be made apparently. Won’t be back.
They know how to work a customer. Food was dry. Then they give you $100 gift card to come back which will never do again. And you can’t even read the receipt they give to you, it was over $265 for 2 people.
We were having a nice time until we were being ignored by all of the staff including Mario, the owner. We asked repeatedly for side dishes and they never came around. But what they managed to bring around was extra carafes of sangria which we did not ask for. They made it seem like they were on the house but they certainly were not. The food was very good but the service was terrible. The place is unique with the art work and ambiance but the staff and owner make it uncomfortable. At the end of our dinner, the owner did not bring us back our credit card but held it for ransom to see if we would buy into his offer of buying gift cards for $300 and receiving $200 gift cards in exchange. When we declined, he threw our credit card on the table as if he was appalled that we did not accept his offer. It was terrible behavior and it was Mother’s Day!! Never again.
The inside of the resultant looked and smelled like a musty old second hand shop. We sat outside and the owner greeted us and laid down dirty plates and then used his fingernail to scrape off a piece of dried food on the plate, hoping my mother didn’t see him do it. She did. We left immediately! And this was supposed to be a nice family dinner to celebrate Mother’s Day. We ended up ordering takeout from our favorite place up the road and calling it a night. I don’t suggest folks go here unless they don’t mind getting their hands dirty.
The food was excellent. The service was very good as well. Will be going back. Very hard to find great Cuban food in Broward. This is the best.
The experience was amazing. We asked Mario to have us eat whatever he thinks we should have. This is the way to go & if you want an experience as much as a meal this is the spot & Mario is the guy. Amazing night!
The moment you walk in the staff makes you feel important!! The food is AMAZING! Drinks were delicious! If you’re in the area it’s a must go to!!!
Found this restaurant by accident...It is a cute little place with a great ambience.
Food was authentic and just great flavor and taste. Every single staff was amazing and that includes Mario and Chino. They really made your night special - they were so accommodating on every level. Next time we're back in Fort Lauderdale, we will definitely going to this restaurant again and try different dishes.
We lucked in to finding Mario's while returning to Ft Lauderdale from Key West. Now we book an extra day of vacation to stay there just to visit Mario's. This is our favorite place in the country. Fantastic food (seafood paella is unbelievable as is everything else), cool atmosphere, and great service. Meeting Mario alone is worth the trip. Quarto Leche dessert! You won't be disappointed
I would not recommend this place to anyone. The waiter was rude and disrespectful
This was definitely not just dinner, but an experience. From the amazing welcome directly from Mario to the wait staff treating you like family, we had such a wonderful time. The food presentation was awesome in its own. The sauces for each dish were delicious. We enjoyed the snapper (Marios favorite) on the menu, and the chicken cordon bleu type dish was wonderful. Bar drinks were perfect and the homemade sangria was just right for a spring night in Ft. Lauderdale. Can't wait to travel back with the whole family.
Always a great time. Mario is always very welcoming and a pleasure.
Super duper disgusting... be careful
Mario was great!
The food was delicious, (Lechón Asado & the Churasco with garlic shrimp) the ambiance was fun & the staff was attentive. It was my birthday & at the end of our meal they brought some flan & a carafe of their absolutely very tasty Sangria, on the house!. The black beans are excellent. This will be a regular spot for us, we live 40 mins away but this is worth the drive !!!
Everything was lovely. The food was delicious and they got us in and out quickly so that we could be somewhere by a certain time. My only complaint is the lack of parking.
We just love this restaurant. Everything about it is fun and fabulous. Mario and his staff are top notch and they are professional, courteous and friendly. The food is consistently great. You must try Mario’s!… Thank you everyone from this divine restaurant
The service was amazing everyone was attentive and friendly. The food was good and came out in a timely manner.
food was exciting
the sangria was the best I have ever had
Tasty food, amazing service. Highly recommend if you’re in the area. Mario walked around and greeted all the customers. Food was amazing and the sangria was delish!
The good is always delicious at Maria! The service was a little off Friday night - but everyone can have an off night. We will absolutely be back love Mario’s
We were welcomed immediately by Mario. The food was excellent and the waiters were helpful in making our choices. They kept the drinks flowing! Highly recommend!
Awesome as usual, Mario treated us like family. The service was great and food better, I always recommend this spot
From start to finish they made us feel like we were the only people in the restaurant and proceeded to make every other table feel the same . The food was delicious ! If I lived in Florida I would frequent this place with out a doubt.
Thank you Mario for such a special experience
Mario is a fantastic restauranteur and the best host ever. Everything was excellent; the food, the ambiance, the staff (thank you Johnny). This is the best Cuban food you will find (and I know, I've eaten in Havana). Do yourself a favor - go there. Have a great time and a wonderful meal You won't regret it.
We had 3 different entree’s and each was delicious.
The service seemed disorganized, as though new servers, including the bar. I think they must’ve realized because at the end of the night we were brought a bottle of wine & brand new bar drinks that we hadn’t asked for.
We’ll definitely go back!
Went there for my sister's birthday. Rush rush by the owner to eat food and leave so he can sit more people. Couldn't enjoy our food because of his ill-mannered ways. We didn't even put our forks down and he was picking up the plates....never again.
Fantastic food and service, highly recommend
What can I say this place was FANTASTIC! Mario greeted us at the door and made us feel like family checking on our table as well as others throughout the night. The service was impeccable and the food and mojitos were to die for. A favorite was the grilled octopus and the deconstructed tamale. We were visiting from out of town but will definitely be back! Keep up the good work and keep the mojitos flowing!
Food was delicious. Mario introduced himself to our table to check how we were doing. He was very accommodating, offered sangrias and drinks on the house. Overall great experience.
We picked an early time in order to avoid the crowd. I’m glad we did because the place was packed......& now we know why! The owner brought all kinds of extra food and drinks that we didn’t even order. He would chuckle and say OOPS but kept feeding us. Haha! Our waiter was kind and efficient and truly interested in conversation. This place is a gem! The experience was definitely one we want to recreate!
Service was exceptional! That I give to them! All were very attentive! The food was delicious except for my fish dinner! I ordered the grouper but I don’t think I got grouper! I eat it all the time and this was not grouper! I left the fish aside snd ate my rice beans and empanadas! I should have said something but I don’t send food back, I just don’t go back! Owner was very accommodating and we got empanadas and a glass of wine on the house! We eat Cuban food all the time and the prices were exorbitant for Cuban food!
We found Mario's and couldn't be happier. Mario himself seated us and brought out a fried plantain app without charge. It was delicious. We had the sangria which was frozen and not too sweet. I told Mario that I wanted a chicken dish and he took care of it. The food was delicious, service was top-notch. Highly recommend!!!
We had a special experience tonight at Mario’s Catalina. After being seated we were greeted by the owner who asked what we like and then took care of our ordering for the night. From the empanada starter to the flan cheese cake dessert everything was of of extremely high quality. The entree’s Catalina Combination and Mario’s favorite(snapper breaded in green plantains with lobster sauce and jumbo shrimp) left us full.
The food was excellent and the host was gracious and welcoming. We will be back
As always a great place
