Cubano's by Mario
Step into Mario’s Catalina Restaurant and you instantly feel the hustle of the city fade. Soothing colors, soft lighting, crisp linens and fragrant aromas all conspire to transport you to a more tranquil setting.
While Catalina’s ambiance is undeniably appealing, dining out really is all about the food! That’s why co-owner and chef, Mario Flores, went to great lengths to create a menu of Spanish and Cuban dishes that complement each other. Mario is pleased to now offer Paella, which includes lobster, scallops, chorizo and many other delicious ingredients!
The result: authentic Latin food masterfully prepared. Add to that attentive service and a chilled glass of simply the best Sangria in town, and you’re well on your way to a memorable experience!

We had a very good time, they were extremely attentive, food was flavorful and authentic. Mojitos were tasty. Only thing I would not recommend would be the desserts.
Great evening, great service, great food! When we arrived the staff greeted us with plantains and an amazing salsa, great energy and attentive service. The food was amazing!
A very Nice evening with good food and service.
A Nice Way to celebrate Birthday
Food was magnificent as was the entire Dinning experience I will go back many times
Love Mario's a must any time you are in the area
We had friends show up from out of town, and I needed a place that would seat six outside for dinner the next day, which was a Friday. I went to OpenTable to see what was available. I found Mario’s Cubano (also known as Catalina), a place I had never heard of before, and they had the space available. The menu looked good and the reviews were great, so I decided to go ahead and book it. What a wonderful find! Everything was excellent. Mario came out to greet us and checked on us periodically to make sure all was well. The staff expertly attended to our needs without hovering. They gave us a complimentary appetizer, and we also ordered the mussels, the grilled octopus, and their great sangria, and were served a wonderful salad for the table. Every bite of everything was eaten. Our terrific waiter helped us with main course choices, and the meals were delicious. One had the Palomilla steak, two others had steak with shrimp, one had the roast pork, another had the salmon in red sauce, and I had the grouper in garlic sauce with shrimp. All were served with rice and black beans. It was a lot of food, yet we all devoured all or almost all of our dinners. Every person loved their dinner. You wouldn’t think we’d have room after all of that, yet the dessert tray was incredible and we ordered 4 desserts. Some shared and some didn’t! I tried the tiramisu and the caramel cheesecake, which were so very good. I can’t say enough about Cubano’s. Fabulous food and drinks; warm, welcoming and professional staff; and a lovely, relaxing atmosphere. We look forward to going back.
Went for a birthday even I felt like it was a burden and the drinks were horrible then my food was just as bad I tried ordering another entree and when I tell u it looked like they poured milk over seafood it’s putting it lightly at the end they tried us with some cheap champagne and said it was $200 and that it was gift from Mario but then found the charge of $150 on our bill I will not be returning and please be aware when dinning here
We went to Cubano’s to celebrate our anniversary and had a wonderful evening. We were warmly welcomed by Mario and his staff. We ordered the ham croquettes and the seafood mix in lobster sauce. For dessert we had the 4 leches cake which was lovely. Everything was absolutely delicious! Mario made us feel like royalty. We love his restaurant and cannot wait to go back.
Excellent cuisine,service and atmosphere
Absolutely the best dining experience I have ever had in my 52 years! Mario is an amazing man and his cooking is even better. If your in Ft. Lauderdale and don’t eat here, you are missing the boat! Best food and service.
It was our first time at Cubanos by Mario and we loved it! Felt like eating out, but with a home warmth. the best grilled octopus I have tasted so far.
Very elegant atmosphere good for special occasion or romantic date. The service is superb. They go the extra mile to make sure you enjoy your experience. Generous portions and good food.
The food and service is very good. If you are adventurous have the owner put together a tasting menu for you. You won’t regret it. The staff makes you feel like you are dining in their home.
The reviews won't do it justice! If you're down for a go-with-the-flow dining experience, I can't recommend Mario's enough. Mario himself was welcoming and took great care of us, and the food was incredible.
An amazing place. The food was perfect.
Mario is beautiful and took very good care of us.
I’ve been to this restaurant before and food is good, the problem is the value, it is quite EXPENSIVE, we had one appetizer, Octopus at $30 and there was not a lot of it. The main course oxtail $40 and the meat was cold and we added back beans and that was + $20. With and additional 3 sangrias the bill came out to be $143. Without tip....
At the end of the day is not worth it, no value.
This was the absolutely one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I was visiting Ft. Lauderdale and looking for the best Cuban food and I am so glad I went to Cubano’s by Mario. I highly recommend the yuca sticks and empanadas for appetizers. For main courses, Mario’s Favorite Red Snapper Filet meal was outstanding. Save room for dessert because the carrot cake and quattro leches were beyond this world. Can’t recommend it highly enough and I will definitely be coming back here and telling friends. The service was also top-notch. Mario personally made sure we were taken care of and his wait staff were very attentive. Such a great experience.
We do not recommend this restaurant!
The owner of this restaurant ,Mario, has taken care of us and served us personally, We were sure to be in his good and hospitable hands, but the bill was showing us,that it was not hospitality, but systematic rip-off .he used the trick to bring us non-ordernd cocktails and a dinner course without the chance to check the prices on the menu card carefully. On the bill were different positions which were not readable. We paid the insignificant amount to provide any discussion, but the quality of the dinner was really ordinary and the prices not justified at all. At least he gave us his special „voucher „which has already been mentioned in other comments about the restaurant.
We went to celebrate the New Year and all the experience was outstanding. Our table was ready on time, although the restaurant was almost full. The food was incredible. Thanks for your excellent service.
Great food and atmosphere
Great food & ambience. Lively atmosphere and quick service. Also great for large groups.
What a wonderful dining experience! The food was fantastic! We had the Paella. Delicious! The Sangria was also spectacular. The best part was Mario, the owner. What a warm, kind and inviting host. Thank you. We will see you again next year!
This place is excellent. Take the seven dollar Uber from the hotel strip in Fort Lauderdale and enjoy a delicious experience. The drinks are very strong and the sangria comes a bit like a slushy so they go down way too easily. The octopus was really some of the best we’ve ever had. The empanadas have a tasty filling and the chicken Milanese, the mixed grill, and the salmon we all good. Even the beans they offer to put on the white rice is above average. Stand out however it is the Pella. We got one just for the table. It is not served in the traditional pan so I was skeptical at first. It is served in a bowl but that I think it’s the reason why it is so moist. Sometimes PE can be dry and also taste very fishy. This was of such high-quality there was no fishy taste and there was a lot of seafood. The desserts were also amazing and abundant. They make a tres and quatro leches cake. We ordered both and it’s hard to determine which was better. We also had a chocolate cake that was as light as air with the lightest mousse in between the layers but it was very flavorful. The people next to us told us they have been coming down on vacation for almost 15 years and never miss coming. They said that they dream all year about the mojitos and paella. This place was worth every penny.
We were away on family vacation and looking for a good Cuban experience. We were greeted by Mario himself who continually checked on us and other diners to make sure that we were happy. I mean he actually asked us “are you happy”. At one point, he went inside, made more sangria, and came out with the pitcher to refill for the outdoor diners. He noticed that we were masked and both he and his wait staff were masked. We felt that we were special to him and will put Mario’s on our list of places to go the next time we are in the area. It truly was an amazing way to end our vacation. (The whole COVID situation added an unnecessary layer of stress…this definitely took that away…the endless mojitos and sangria didn’t hurt!) ending with Cuban coffee was a total win!!
We love this place! Mario and his team are fantastic. The food, ambiance and decor are just great. We had a family party this time and it was very special and we were treated in a lovely way. Thank you, Mario!
Great food and fun time
We ate there tonight with our 3 hs/college aged sons. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with such warmth by Mario and his staff. We started with a round of mojitos - some regular and a couple virgin. All delicious. He then brought over complimentary plantains with a fresh salsa, yuka sticks, calamari and a salad. All delicious. For our main courses we got everything from the roast pork meal, garlic chicken & shrimp, grouper & shrimp and the steak. We all loved what we got. Especially the roast pork. The rice and beans and fried plantains were perfection. After dinner he surprised us with a round of sangria which everyone agreed was incredible - I don’t drink so I didn’t try it but I take their word. We then finished with a selection of the desserts. All excellent. The dolce de leche cheese cake & chocolate mousse cake were favorites.
Great setting, such a warm and welcoming ambiance. Mario and his staff made the whole experience one we won’t soon forget. He even sent us on our way with a bunch of empanadas for lunch tomorrow!!! We can’t wait to go back!
Food and service was excellent. The owner is very friendly and fun.
Excellent food and excellent service
Great hospitality by Mario and his team for a Xmas dinner - Tasty food! Felt like being part of the family.
A really lovely neighbourhood restaurant built around the flamboyant and characterful Mario. The restaurant is his stage and he performs brilliantly. Warm, engaging and funny,he ensures everyone feels special. A real skill. The food is good Cuban classics, but you come for the experience and for the heartwarming hospitality, everything else is just cast & crew for the star act that is Mario.
Food was ok. Very poor service. Overcrowded. Overpriced. To be avoided.
Enjoyed the food and drinks. Skirt Steak was delicious. Plenty of leftovers!!! The owner, Mario, was very attentive. The desserts were great as well.
Always excellent, always fun, perfect for any occasion.
Mario greeted us at the door with a smile and handshake and guided us to the table as if he had been expecting us for dinner all week. He and the staff were incredibly welcoming, gracious, and accommodating. The food quality was spectacular and the most authentic Cuban cuisine I’d experienced. I haven’t left a review on here in a while but I had to leave a raving review for Catalina’s Cubano’s by Mario because it was out of the park!
Amazing meal, ambiance and service. Expensive but very special.
Awesome meal all the way around! The food tasted great and there was plenty of it. Mario is very welcoming and greatly adds to the ambience. 5 stars!
Pretty, eclectic dining room and a very charming host! Food was delicious.
