Cubano's by Mario
Step into Mario’s Catalina Restaurant and you instantly feel the hustle of the city fade. Soothing colors, soft lighting, crisp linens and fragrant aromas all conspire to transport you to a more tranquil setting.
While Catalina’s ambiance is undeniably appealing, dining out really is all about the food! That’s why co-owner and chef, Mario Flores, went to great lengths to create a menu of Spanish and Cuban dishes that complement each other.
The result: authentic Latin food masterfully prepared. Add to that attentive service and a chilled glass of simply the best Sangria in town, and you’re well on your way to a memorable experience!

Very tasty and authentic Cuban food.
The restaurant is decorated in more of a European style, with white tableclothes and chandeliers lamps.
Our server was very attentive.
The owner gave me a free glass of wine when he found out it was our first visit.
We love Mario’s! The service and food is always terrific! Mario and his staff are friendly and very kind.
Mario’s is our go-to restaurant for any special occasion!
The restaurant wasn’t full and the service was slow and bad. The appetizers were good but the main course was no good. The skirt steak was over cooked and the salmon we have to returned it because was burn. The only GOOD thing was the mojitos.
It’s a overpriced restaurant
Mario and his team create the most unique and perfect experience every single time. The food is exquisite and the service is unmatched.
Wonderful food and service.
The food and service was wonderful! Mario is always around to make sure your having a good time! We will be back!
Everything was great!! Especially the food, service and Mario!!! I highly recommend it!!
Mario was amazing, took care of us personally and ordered incredible food to order, his own selection, no menu, which, as a first time Cuban food experience, really made our evening more special. I truly loved his personal touch on everything that he did, it warmed my heart and made me feel special.
As always, the warm atmosphere is matched by the warmth of the owner, Mario, and friendly service of the entire staff. Each of the four of us had an exquisite meal and delicious sangria, accompanied by the ability to actually have a conversation while dining.
Mario’s was an interesting experience. The staff was very friendly. The food was fantastic and the manager was very welcoming.
An absolutely pleasurable dining experience at Mario’s. The food was delicious and plentiful . Their signature roast pork was the best ever.
The staff very knowledgeable, attentive and friendly
This was our first visit to Mario’s but certainly not our last. Can’t wait to go back!!’
Great atmosphere and wonderful service!
This is not your typical Cuban restaurant. This was our first visit and was blown away by the service and attention to the table all night especially since we had 10 of us. The food was incredible..
The places was too stuffy all the chairs was close together like we were in a can of sardines
There was nothing really special about the food.i had the salmon and my husband had the Mario’s favorite, he said his fish was burnt and my salmon jumbo shrimp was burnt as well. And the portions was small for the price in my opinion.. when I saw the seating arrangements in the Resturant I wanted to leave but it was just something to do that day and we already valet so that’s the only reason we stayed.
My wife and I got their for our 9:00pm reservation on time. There was no host to greet or explain the wait. There was a long line of ppl waiting with no explanation of when they will be seated. No one was attending to us. I asked a worker who tell me to talk to the owner. The owner MARIO was walking around aimlessly. He seems like he was only interested in attending to his regulars. I touched him on the shoulder a few times to get his attention only to be brushed off. We left because this place was horrible. I have gotten better serve from a street vendor. I will never recommend this hole-in the wall trying to be a restaurant...
Valentine's is not the best night to go there: had to wait 30 mins for a table even though I made a reservation several days before, had to wait another 1 hour to get drinks and appetizers...the food is good, but don't go on Valentine's
No need to make reservations you are not going to be seated on time. Owner was overwhelmed by amount of people waiting to be seated. Wait was well over 1 hr and still taking rsvp on open table, I don’t know why. Finally sat down and waited for over 45 minutes for a waiter. When they finally showed up we ordered and expected to get some bread or something to munch on while waiting for our order. Nothing. Finally waiter bought our appetizer, Fried Yuca 6 pieces of Yuca on a bed of salad. Very small and expensive for what it was. Our main course was the grilled grouper fillet which was surprisingly fresh, well-cooked and nicely presented. Dessert was mediocre at best. Owner was very apologetic and offered to make it up in the future. Do not order Pitcher of Sangria. Good but very expensive and no price on menu.
Yes and No! Busy night and they overbooked - food and portions were okay for the price but the tight tables and slow service were disappointing.
If I could give this place -100 stars I would. We made a reservation and confirmed over the phone that we wanted a 7pm seating. We arrived at 640 to a line a cars and one man working the valet who I wouldn’t trust with a bicycle let alone a vehicle. We were directed by a server to stand at the bar and inform Mario that we were here. Mario passed us at least 5 times - completely ignoring us. Finally- we asked the bartender what to do. She told us to go to the front desk - we didn’t know there was a back entrance with a podium. Once we got there - now at 715pm - the girl at the podium told us Mario overbooked the place and it would be another hour before we were seated. Needless to say - we left- back to the valet - who- LOST THE KEYS! After waiting for him to search for the keys for 15 mins ( cars backed up in both directions now ) my wife pulled out a spare set. We located the car ourself, in a parking lot two blocks away- we found the keys in the console !!! Please - avoid this place like the plague !
Don’t bother going. No one there to great you when you arrive for reservations. Had to wait 15 min before someone came to the front door. Didn’t even order appetizers and two dinners took 45 min-1hr. It took an additional 30 min to get the check. Terrible service, terrible food and terrible ambiance. We will never go again.
Order took an hour to get. Kept forgetting our drink orders. Wife ordered grouper. They brought fried snapper. 50 bucks for a fried fish. 3 separate waiters
Amazing food and great service. The wine is not great and way overpriced. Only issue. Otherwise a great experience.
The food was superb and very large portions. We ordered the vaca frita and skirt steak, both meals were amazing.
We had a wonderful experience. It was our anniversary. When we ordered our dinner and some of their fabulous Sangria, we were surprised with a delicious salad and appetizer, provided by the owner. The empanadas were excellent, just the right temperature and very flavorful. Our dinners very good, my meat was nicely seasoned and very tender, my husband’s shrimp were grilled perfectly and very spicy. Our Sangria glasses were never empty. Our anniversary could not have been better!
Fantastic as always. Never misses the.mark and Mario is always the greatest host. We eat here every time we travel to fort Lauderdale
Such wonderful people
Great snapper and oxtail specials
Always a great experience at marioa. It never disappoints and Mario is a great host
Mario's offers great Cuban food in large but stylish dinning room. The wine list is pretty decent and they are known for their mojitos and sangria. The Paella, Ox tails and Pork Asado are all great choices and come with white rice, black beans and fried plantains
Great service as always. Food is impeccable, from the Mojitos all the way to dessert. Always a go to when we have visitors from out of town.
Mario greeted us at the door and was very attentive. The food and drinks were excellent although Mario chose for us as we had never been there before. Never had a menu but didn’t need one—excellent choices Mario! The chicken, pork and empanadas were excellent. The decor is wonderful. Mario also gave us gift cards to use for future dining and I passed several out as I was In town for a conference. Will definitely go back.
We’ve been frequenting Cubano’s by Mario at least once a week for a couple of months now. The owner Mario is the consummate host - so delightful, funny, and generous. The food in INcredible! We’ve had the deliciously authentic empanadas, whole fish, paella, and our favorite is “Mario’s favorite” fried red snapper & jumbo shrimp in lobster sauce with a side of shredded pork and white rice/black beans. Always on the table is an exquisitely flavored homemade chimichurri of chopped veggies in oil. For dessert they bring an enormous tray of options, and so far we’ve tried tres leches, quattro leches, rum cake, and my favorite, tiramisu. Our dining experiences are always accompanied by Mario’s special recipe red sangria, which magically refills itself, courtesy of Dunea. Their white sangria and mojitos are fantastic too. This is definitely high-quality Cuban/Spanish cuisine, and we have not once been disappointed. You can taste that it’s made with love and pride - you almost feel that you’re dining at a relative’s house. The entire staff is so warm and welcoming. They remember you! So grateful to have found this “home away from home” for lunch & dinner.
Just GREAT! Mario, his staff, food and ambiance are all FABULOUS!! This restaurant is a must! Thank you Mario! We just love dining at Mario’s!
Incredibly delicious food and very efficient service. Thank you!
While on our honeymoon, we had a taste for a local restaurant, no chain business. We felt like family after walking in and had a fantastic dinner. Mario simply sat us down and said he’d take care of us. He took away the menus and we just trusted in his judgement. It was in incredible. Perfect flavor, plating and service. We were so appreciative of that bold move he made. We really wish we lived here to enjoy this regularly.
My reservation was at 9:15 and I was setting at 9:40 pm. It was 10:30 and the food was not served yet. It was a nightmare and I was with my granddaughter 5 years old, finally I had the food to go and my granddaughter got sit since the food was not properly cooked. Left the restaurant around 11:20pm waiting for the food to go a the end the food was not cooked.
The food was fine, but overpriced for what your getting. They sat 8 of us at a table made for 6.
Overpriced scam restaurant.
We went for New Years Eve. While Mario was the host with the most, when they lost our credit card he disappeared. He made the staff ask for another card. Never apologized. When we called the restaurant he hung up on us.
Food was great but you could staff was overwhelmed with the crowd.
Mario was charming, attentive, gracious and adorable!!
Food was authentic and amazing. Definitely a reason to return to Ft Lauderdale.
