We had a lovely relaxed lunch at Cubacon on a sunny Monday afternoon. I had the arugula salad with grilled salmon and my husband had the Cuban sandwich. We split an appetizer of hot and crisp tostones. My husband enjoyed his sandwich and my salad was very good--lightly dressed with guava vinaigrette and a nice piece of salmon. I also had a drink--vodka with St. Germain--I forget the name of it, but it was very good if a little watery. Our waitress, Lisa, was outstanding--very attentive and friendly, but not overbearing. The place was not crowded at all, but it was a Monday in September. I know it gets very crowded here in the summer.
It was ok. It wasn’t bad but also not great… service was ok. We were the first there for lunch and not really checked in on which it fine. Our server was sweet and responsive it just seemed that with an empty place and SO MANY employees on, I didn’t expect to have to wonder where our server was. Food was not bad but definitely a needing a little kick of flavor. There seemed to be A LOT of fruit flies or gnats around us which was a little off putting but just swatted them away during our meal. Not the worst but not really up there either.
We always have amazing meals when visiting Cubacan. Mussels, skirt steak, salmon and grapefruit margarita were all on point!
Food was excellent as well as the drinks service was great and friendly
Seventh time going to Cubacan. Must be a new chef. Will not go back.
Unacceptable to bring out half the meals and then the other half 45 minutes later. After 3 of us complained to the manager he offered to take the late meals off the bill. When the bill came he only took off half of the late meals. Most of us who received our meals late didn’t eat the food.
Nice experience on a beautiful day. Food was excellent.
Horrible …. We were seated and then ignored for 25 minutes . Finally my date went and asked if we were gonna be served and someone came to the table . We ordered our drinks apps and entrees because we didn’t know if they were coming back . 15 minutes later we got our drinks …. 20 minutes later got our apps ice cold …. We decided to pay for our drinks and leave … As we’re paying , a waitress jumps in front of us and starts telling the bartender about an “annoying” family she’s serving. I was in disbelief at how she was acting. Completely unprofessional….. the worst service of any restaurant in Asbury park. With the exception of the poor management in Stella marina ….. on the way out of cubacan we needed to use the restroom … it was the dirtiest smelliest bathroom of any restaurant I’ve been to… Horrendous experience … HORRENDOUS !!!
We had a great time and the food was amazing. We will return for sure. The service was strained but but they recovered strongly in a professional manner. It was a tough day so no worries from me.
The food is well done and authentic, the people watching is great, you can't beat the location and it is a great place for a nice, chill dinner.
I recommend strongly.
Great food, poor service. The staff couldn't be less invested in their jobs. But of 4 of us we all liked our meals and drinks immensely.
The salmon was raw. The waitress barely came to the table to check up on us. Not a good experience at all.
Food was delicious, drinks not so much. Server was helpful and attentive.
Lisa was a joy! She was attentive to our every needs. She made suggestions that were on the money. The food was amazing! We loved everything we ate. Highly recommended.
Food was good but a little small on the portions
The food was gross. Soggy rice and bland beans. Nothing had seasoning. The meat was literally gray. Not exaggerating the worst food I have ever paid for. We only ate it because we were starving and felt bad for the service workers. Would never ever come back even in my worst nightmares. If you know what good Latin food tastes like, this will be an enormous disappointment.
Delicious food and excellent service. The mussels were flavorful and the skirt steak was cooked perfectly with delicious flavors.
We made a reservation through open table. When we got there the maître d’ could not locate the reservation. She was still struggling with the fact that she could not find the reservation in spite of us showing evidence of having made the reservation.
She seemed a little flustered and finally one of the more seasoned waitresses told her to make an accommodation. It was a little mind-boggling given that the restaurant was half empty and it was clear that the crowds were not stampeding into the space.
That said, the waitress serving us was extraordinarily competent and very accommodating. Food was very good but required a little more seasoning. When we come back we hope that the restaurant logistics will be worked out and the food a little better seasoned.
Great meal. Best calamari I have had in a while. Great meal right on the boardwalk.
The bartender and drink assortment was great. Too. Ad the taps weren’t Working for their 80+ beer choices. They were only able to serve bottled beer. The margaritas made up for it though. While the food quality was good, it was very small portions. There was literally one short rib on the plate, along with a good assortment of vegetables. The paella was 2/3 rice, and two clams, three shrimps, three scallops..
These entrees were both $30. Each
Horrible service, mediocre food, nice views and ocean breeze.
Really wanted to enjoy this place...we weren't acknowledged after being seated for over 10min. Had to ask of we had a server. Food lacked flavor & my dad's was served cold. It was extremely loud & felt chaotic. Don't waste your time.
Side dish came before meal. Food had more fat than pork. More peppers than pork. Flavor therefore subpar. Loud. Disappointed.
Cubacan has a great blend of indoor and outdoor dining. We opted for outdoor due to current COVID rates in the area, and had a lovely boardwalk view. Food and drinks were outstanding, even the dessert (which isn't always the case at restaurants with good apps and entrees!). Service was also quite good.
Ambiance was lovely. Waiting an hour and half for entree, while others were served. When asked about our meal, our server checked and said our order was lost. It was not a overly crowded evening. Our dinner finally arrived and my dinner was inedible. Stringy, dry and unseasoned brisket (ropa viega). Couldn’t eat more than a bite. Other guests in my party had the octopus salad which was tasty and the bread basket and empanadas as apps were also good.
A bit disappointed in both the food and the service. We got seated right away but no one approached us to take our order until I asked and then the food was mediocre at best. Been here several times prior to Covid and it was apparent that they did not maintain their quality
Our server was really sweet, so I feel awful leaving a negative review… but our entrees came out before our appetizers, and service was just generally slow despite the restaurant being almost empty. No one in our party enjoyed their food, and we’re not picky at all. The seasoning was off and nothing tasted particularly fresh. It was just nowhere near worth the high prices. They charged us an extra $5 to put two tiny slices of cheese on my daughter’s kids meal burger sliders… I love Cuban food but this didn’t hit the mark and we definitely won’t be back.
Paella and lechon was excellent. We ordered entrees to share family style and portions was perfect! Sangria awesome too! We ended with flan! Leaving here multiple times and will definitely be back again
Terrible service, terrible cocktails awful blasting music selection.
I really wanted to like this restaurant, but it just didn't cut it. Clearly their business is booming because they had to stop taking walk-ins, and perhaps that's why such little care is put into every aspect of the dining experience there -- why work hard if you're still killing it, maybe? It just seems like a lucky location with perfectly edible food. Would not go back, not even for the ocean view (which was equally the main draw for us as the Cuban cuisine that evening). Completely unimpressed and underwhelmed, even let down, very let down.
Need an additional bartender. Drinks took forever to get.
The service was slow, and the server got my entree wrong twice, in addition to one other misunderstanding about a side dish order. The ambiance was nice, but the inside dining booth seats were peeling. And, it just wasn’t a good experience overall. There was 2 in my party, and we both feel the same. I left hungry after finishing my shrimp & rice dish. It’s a small portion for the price, and my daughter felt that her meal was not edible, so she left hungry as well and we had to go buy more food elsewhere after our lunch there.
Birthday, the service was slow and inadequate.
Great time, love the outdoor space and I was able to bring my well behaved dog who sat in his bag the entire time. Food was ok.
Disappointed with food and service, will not recommend this restaurant
Excellent Cuban Sandwich and patatas bravas. Very good Jalapeno Marg.
Definitely worth a visit!
Food is good and consistent. Service is excellent. Prices a little high for quantity. I would return.
Have been dining here for many years. This time was terrible.
Food was cold.
outside dining area was messy with garbage under tables.
waiter was lovely but he had no back up to help him.
Crossing off my list.
Great outdoor experience. Food was on point with the paella and pork chops
Such a good time on Thursday evening with my friend! We were running a little late and were still accommodated. The food was amazing, music was perfect, and the vibe was really great. Would come again for sure!!
Really surprisingly good after all these years. Highly suggest it here. Staff always very nice and the food is solid.
