Cuba Ratings and Reviews
I took my boyfriend here to celebrate his birthday. It was a quaint restaurant. We were seated near the bar in the corner of the room. Perfect for people watching and even better because we sat close by one another. I had a classic monitor which was made to perfection. We ordered the cevice, empanadas, bollas, and shared the snapper. The food was plentiful, the flavors were rich, and the presentation was made perfectly. We ordered the guava and cheese empanadas which were served with a dulce de leche sauce. Two waiters sand happy birthday to my boyfriend. Two key elements which made this night better were the live band and the cigar roller at the front of the restaurant.
The food was amazing, the service was great and the cocktails added to the evening. We also loved that we could end the night with some hand rolled cigars made right at the restaurant. The place is small but nicely decorated and worth paying a visit too. I will return.
Great food and a fantastic atmosphere! Try to go on a Friday or Saturday so you can catch the live music! Hand rolled cigars on the premises if you are a tobacco lover. Service was outstanding too! Overall, an amazing time!
3 of 6 had classic paella, 2 had seafood only paella and I had med rare steak. Classic paella was classic, steak was awesome and real value for $20. Seafood paealla cox have used a bit more seafood. Sergio our waiter was excellent. Live music very good too- perfect volume
Cuba has been one of our favorite places for over 11 years, especially since being at NYU we are so close.
As a native Cuban family, we have had many family birthdays and graduations, quiet dinners and amazing celebrations.
This past Saturday, celebrating my daughter's birthday was going very well, the food and service were outstanding.
Then abruptly after we were just served coffee and dessert, the waiter placed the check (which we had not asked for) on the table and then kept coming back to the table rudly interrupting us about closing out the check.
We usually have an after dinner drink and more cafe con leche...but he never even waited to ask us. We calmly asked for time to enjoy our dessert and perhaps have another coffee and in a loud, disrespectful manner told us that it was the manager not him and there were many people waiting for a table. That decision he would have to get approval for from the manager.
This really put a negative spin on what was a wonderful dinner.
I guess we will now have to find another place, as out $340 + tab for 3 people was not welcome.
Went to Cuba after experiencing a taste with the Greenwich Village food tour! Came with friends from Ireland before going to a Comedy show and was so happy by the menu! We decided to order multiple apps and split a paella making it kinda tapas style. The wait staff were very attentive and quick to help us with anything! Would defiantly bring friends here or suggest it for a girl's night!
Went for dinner on a Sunday night, so while quiet, probably not the same on Friday and Saturday when they have live music. Our waiter Julio was the best, providing honest opinions on the dishes we asked about and providing alternative recommendations. Drinks were good, service was great.
We had a great time at Cuba! Food was delicious and the live music was perfect - not too loud and it really added to the ambiance. It’s important to make a reservation so plan ahead! It was dark by our table so we needed our phones to read the menu (and our readers!). Go ahead and go, you’ll like it!
The service was very good. The waiter was exuberant and informed. The music did get quite loud at one point and we had a hard time talking but when we asked they turned it down right away. The drinks were good and all the food except one paella was good. The paella Valencia I was a bit oily.
The wait-staff did their best to rush us, bringing all the courses at once and attempting to remove dishes the moment one of us put down our utensils. We did not let them rush us (other than the food coming all at once) but anyone easily intimidated would be miserable here!
DO NOT order appetizers before your drinks arrive and DO NOT put in your order for main courses until you have started eating your appetizers. You will be sorry if you do not heed this advice!
Cuba was an overall a nice place to dine at at least once. Let me list the pros and cons: Pros, food was tasty and good portion for price of plate. Drinks were yummy, especially the Pina Colada. Our server was friendly and attentive and allowed us to split our bill per person which was 5 of us. A lot of places only cap splitting the bill to a max of 2 credit cards. Cons, seating was choked up. You were literally on top of each other, it's very small in there. We asked the server to be seated upstairs to get breeze from the door opening because there was no AC and if there was it was barely on. Everyone was sweating felt like there was no air to breathe. We were seated in the basement. Coming down the stairs you're hit with the heat coming from the kitchen. And let' that about that staircase, narrow u and steep and easy for someone to fall down. Its honestly really poor set up on seating. I understand low light in restaurants but it was way too dark we had to use lights from our phone to read the menu. There was a noisy birthday take that came in that pretty much drowned out any conversation our table was trying to have. It was basically like their table was the only one there out of 4 tables in this little hole in the wall. If you go just keep in mind you don't get table preferences and be prepared to not have the waiter quiet down surrounding tables .
I was disappointed. The food was bland. The drinks were good and service was good too. But it was a very small place and tables barely had enough room to hold drinks, let alone all the food. It was also much louder than I anticipated. It was very hard to hear/talk even in very close proximity. There was live music later on and that was nice. But not a place to go if you want to talk.
Been coming here since 2012 because of Tony the server. So happy that Tony was able to be my server during my most recent visit on 10/6/17. He's an excellent server and goes out of his way to be accommodating. He always has great suggestions and knows the menu very well. Thank you again Tony!
