Cuba Ratings and Reviews
It’s Valentine’s Day and we were highly disappointed! Let’s start by saying I reserved early, 1/6 to be exact with a mandatory $50 deposit that comes with a prefix menu, live music, cigar roller and a great ambiance.
With respectable dinner etiquette, we arrived 10 mins early and was escorted from the main level to a dark basement — all the way to the back of the room with so many tables crammed together to fit additional bodies. The table next to us was so close I was able to hear my neighbors conversation, show up in their personal photos and if I wanted to eat off their plate I could. Funny enough, my hand accidentally touched my neighbors leg as I was pulling my chair in.
Despite all of that I tried to let it go and enjoy the night with my wife as I can faintly hear the live music upstairs as another form of music from the speakers drowned it out playing in the basement.
Our waiter was brief! Never introduced his name or the menu. Our pitcher of Mojito had very little mint leaves and limes and had very cheap rum. It tasted so bad we didn’t finish it nor did our waiter care to ask.
The food came and despite being in the basement near the kitchen our food came out ‘luke warm’. I’m a steak guy and ordered the dry aged steak (medium) and my wife ordered the lamb. My steak was well done with a very loud taste and the pairing food on my plate was weird. I stopped eating after 2 bites and our waiter still never asked how our food was. Instead someone cleared our table and brought out dessert. Dessert had 4-5 items on the plate with no explanation of what it was.
The most attentive service I received was bill time! Just sad!
Everything was below expectations, unfortunately. I dined here for authentic, delicious Cuban food but this was not the case. We were here for Valentine's Day and Cuba had a pre fixe menu. For my entree, I ordered the lamb chops and thought it was odd that the waiter didn't ask me how I liked it. The lamb chops came out lukewarm (not hot or fresh) as if it was sitting on the kitchen counter for some time already. I asked if they could just kindly heat it up but then they gave me a new dish that was medium rare. Then I asked again that I didn't want it medium rare, I wanted it medium well. It took them THREE times to get it right. Also the dessert and bill (asking for the bill and having the waiter pick up the bill with credit card) took forever, literally waited 30 minutes for each to come. There was nice, live music that I enjoyed but it just wasn't worth the money at all!
Amazing food!!! We ordered several appetizers, entrees and sides. Everything was amazing and flavorful, there was not one thing we didn't love. They had great tasty cocktails, the moijto was incredible. You can't go wrong with anything you order. We also picked up several cigars that we're being hand rolled while we were there. This place gets super busy so make a reservation. It's also incredibly cramped seating, they sure try to squeeze as many people in as possible. That would be my only complaint was having to sit so close to the people next to us and really not having enough table room.
I've come to Cuba numerous times and the food and service is always wonderful. This time I was here with my family and friends celebrating my birthday. The staff checked throughout that everything was going well an even sang me happy birthday! The food is so good it's hard to choose just one dish.
This a perfect place to go on a date or any other special celebration. The ambiance is upbeat and rhythmic while being totally classy and romantic.
We were greeted by a very nice young lady at the front and were told our table wasn’t ready yet, we were early, and that we could get a drink downstairs while waiting. The drinks were really good! I forgot the name of my drink but it was spicy yet refreshing. My cousin got the Hemingway and liked it. We were sat fairly quick and our wait staff was very attentive. We order the empanadas and tostones with garlic sauce. Both were on point. I ordered the seafood stew which has baby clams, shrimp and fish in a lobster sauce with fried plantains mixed in. It was amazing. My cousin had the fried red snapper which was really good too. For dessert we shared the flan and the fried bread pudding. Both were yummy but the bread pudding was my fave. I would definitely go back but I’d make sure to make an early reservation like we did this time because by the time we were leaving the place was packed solid. It goes to show how good the food is though because people were standing outside in 20 degree weather waiting to get in!
This was my husband and I second time here and we didn’t like it very much. The food was good, the drink was alright. My husband ordered a lemonade but instead received a limeade which he didn’t favor. We were seated downstairs which was ok however the section they put us was really tiny as my husband is 6ft and had to sit through the whole dinner with his shoulder bunch up very uncomfortable. The tables was too close together cause the next tables party to spill her red sauce on my white coat and the floor was too slippery as I had Red Bottoms on that are already slippery on there own. Overall we most likely won’t be coming back here as we live in jersey by a great Cuban restaurant!!!
Cuba Restaurant and Rum Bar is my usual choice of venue when I entertain colleagues, clients and friends. The Chef, Mario Garcia, is gifted. He will come out to say hello if you ask for him. The food is authentic and really fresh. The hostesses always look after you with a lovely smile on their face and do their best to seat you, but they are so popular! Please make a reservation. Kudos to hostess Viviana and to my favorite waiter, Sergio. Tony took excellent care of us this past Friday and he made excellent recommendations on the entrees. The restaurant is small and cozy with a live 3-piece Cuban band and a cigar roller! It just can’t get better than that. Standards have always been kept high and I never fail to have a lovely evening when I dine at Cuba. One thing you probably didn’t know about Cuba is that they are long-time supporters of organizations supporting underserved children and their families. I love this place! I would certainly recommend it to anyone.
Amazing! Cuba where have you been all my life? I almost don’t want to divulge how good it is for fear I’ll never get another reservation! From soup to nuts this place has amazing creative - delish - food - wonderful cocktails - awesome atmosphere. It as if I left nyc and arrived in Cuba! Friendly staff - music - vibe. A must go to place! I know I’ll be returning and telling friends and family!!!
My wife and I enjoyed our dinner at Cuba and would recommend it for future guests. The margarita Cubana was unique and an excellent cocktail - we both got one. We opted for multiple small plates - all were good though none were 'must haves.' We were there before peak dinner hours but service was without error.
The starters were good, but main courses very bland in taste and chicken not fresh (chewy, which very often means too quickly defrosted). I must admit that because of a special food allergy that I have to one particular ingredient, they were very accommodating to make me some food I can eat. Unfortunately, it was just that one dish they offered me, which means that nothing is prepared fresh in the kitchen, all pre-made and just heated up. I expect more from a good restaurant. Therefore, I rate the service very high, it was really good, ambience is also nice, a very cozy place, but the kitchen is a let-down.
Had a reservation but the restaurant was only using the upstairs so we still waited a bit, and with no where to sit at the bar we were stuck awkwardly squeezed between tables while employees squeezed past us back and forth serving the tables. But we were seated without too much delay and from there, everything was incredible. We were offered drinks and our order was taken quickly, almost too quickly as we would have been ok sitting and enjoying a somewhat slower pace. But the food was incredible. I ordered the anniversary mojito and it was very good. Incredibly smooth and sweet with a stalk of sugar cane, which is one of my favorite ways to garnish the drink. The appetizer came out quickly and were small but full of flavor. The garlic shrimp were bold and wonderful. The main dishes were not far behind. The suckling pig was the most juicy and tender pork I can remember, and the flavor explodes on your palette. The pork comes with cassava which serves as an excellent balance, helping to clear your palette without being starchy. My wife had a chicken dish with mushrooms and cheese and it was very moist and packed its own punch of flavor. We finished off the meal with coconut flan with pineapple and berries and it was a wonderful, sweet contrast to the savory punch of the dinner. Absolutely wonderful and we look forward to coming back!
