Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar - Atlantic City Ratings and Reviews
Cuba Libre is located in the Tropicana and is a bit rundown like the rest of AC. I asked for a nice table in my OT reservation request and we were put upstairs in the back next to a huge birthday party. It was so loud that it was pointless trying to talk. The service was slow and the food was okay. Their famous mojitos tasted like lemonade, not sure how much rum was in it but there were a lot of ice cubes! Probably will not return again.
My husband and I were on a date with a gift card from my Mom in Law. Both of us did the Chef's Tasting menu and shared a pitcher of mojito. The drinks were ok, over priced and light on booze. However, our server was so sweet! I couldn't decide between sangria of a mojito and she took great care to make sure I got what I wanted. Overall, we were surprised at the value we received by doing the Chef's Tasting. I would hands down come back! Love the shrimp and BBQ ribs....worth noting; the flan was on point!!!!
Sunday night on a holiday weekend. Restaurant was busy but not overwhelmed. Service was a little slow considering it was Labor Day. Drinks were excellent but a bit pricey. Six members of our party thoroughly enjoyed their meals; the seventh was not satisfied with the fish dish ordered even though it was one of the specials offered that evening.
Did not enjoy the experience. The waitress walked me over to a small table near the front. Table was too close to the bench and I had to move it to sit down ( I only weigh 100lbs). When I moved the table it started to wobble. It was also very drafty sitting by the door near with a vent overhead. I told the waitress I wasn't happy there. She said, "table is wobbly because YOU moved it" then proceeded to shoved a nasty lump of paper underneath to stead it, and quickly walked away, how rude! When She returned she proceeded to explain the menu at a very fast speed, we couldn't understand what the heck she was saying. There was a long awkward wait for food to come but the food was delish! So much so, that I asked for a Paella (for two) to go. I realized when we got back that they only gave us a Paella for ONE even though I paid $32 for it, so disappointing! The flan was also disappointing, it was the size of a quarter. The place seemed cold and not inviting. So much so that no one bother to tell us about the FUN that happens at night shows. As a matter of fact, the busboy was the friendliest guy there!
We ordered two different dishes. Ropa Vieja, a Cuban classic. It was okay. We also ordered a sea food Paella.
Not an inexpensive dish and one of the worst servings we've ever experienced. All the sea food in it was dry. All of it.
Made the waitress aware and we were offered a free desert. They charged us the full price for the dry paella, we only ate half. Too bad we didn't send it back right from the start. We were very hungry and hoped it would get better as we dug in. Never again.
Seating for 2 was cramped, and everyone slammed together in a tight row despite many open other seating. Server we had was attentive, and nicely engaging without being too intrusive. Sangria needed a little more zip. Had the Paella, the seasoning on the calamari was to powerful and contrasted the whole dish, the Lobster overcooked, clams seemed frozen while the Shrimp was cooked perfect, and the rice done ok. Not the best paella, too many things not consistent. I also had the red snapper with curry. The Snapper had the skin on it like I like it, but the pan was not hot enough to get the skin perfect cooked crispy so it was inedible. (A shame). The curry contrasted the cashews and fruit, nice idea, but curry needed a little more heat and spice, at times the curry was lost. The fried plantains were perfectly cooked. We also had the crab ball tapas with a wonderful sweet dipping sauce. They call it something else here and I forget the name but it was the best dish. I rate this 2 1/2 to 3 stars out of an impossible to achieve 5 stars, at least that's how it should be, while too many reviewers throw 5 stars around not knowing how difficult it should be to achieve. Can Cuba Libre get to 5 stars? With these dishes, there is a ways to go.
An Atlantic City favorite. One of few "Casino" restaurants that provide an excellent meal at a reasonable price. In the hub of the hottest spot in the city, The Quarter in the Tropicana, it is surrounded with fun and entertaining non-casino activities including an I Max theater. We were fortunate to dine just after they had installed a large wood burning grill. Located toward the front of the venue we could watch while the chefs prepare many of the dishes. The food was very good and offered a unique and delicious list of ingredients. Recommended items are the "Chefs Tasting menu", 15 items from the main menu and a great value. Also the pork dish which is a combo of Chop, Rib, and Belly. Amazing and beautiful presentation. Although it turns into a rocking night club at night, during the dinner hours it is kid friendly.
Not nearly as good as the Philadelphia restaurant. Food was very greasy. Upside...Wait staff was very friendly and attentive. There were four of us and nonethough our dinner was particularly good. Nice place for a drink, the bar is lively. I wouldn't spend the money to eat there.
Always a good time and great food when I eat at Cuba Libre in AC. Never disappointed.
The only thing this time was we felt a bit rushed by a woman who was clearing dishes off the tables. Seems like she wanted to move people out of their tables as quick as possible. I know it was a Saturday night but really not nice for the money that we're spending. It's certainly not cheap to eat here.
Cuba Libre is one of our favorite restaurant in Atlantic City. We always plan to eat here at least one time a year when we have our family trip to Brigantine.
The food is always so tasty and our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful in advising about all the selections. He was also extremely attentive when needed and gave us privacy to enjoy our dinner.
