Cuba Libre - DC

I went for Restaurant Week lunch, so 3 courses for $22 was great, but the food and service were not great. The bean soup appetizer was quite good, but the mahi mahi entree was rubbery and dry. The restaurant itself is very attractive, and you almost feel like you're in Old Havana, but the service was spotty. I waited long periods to place my order and get my check, so a leisurely lunch turned into an eternity.
Food was delicious but our waitress barely came over to the table
Too much air conditioning - it was freezing inside.
We enjoyed the experience of the Cuban cuisine and the drinks were absolutely fantastic
We had company from out of town and finally dined here. We have had plans for over 7 years to go here and the opportunity presented itself.
The waitress was a bit slow. Don't think she had too many tables but still managed to ignore me a bunch of times as she passed the table and we were clearly ready for another round of drinks.
Having said that - the food was so ridiculously good that id go again, and gladly wait on drinks, if required.
The theme of the restaurant is unique and interesting
Incredibly fresh food, amazing drinks, and super cool atmosphere, it makes you feel like you’re on the streets of Cuba. Highly recommend for something different.
The tostones were starchy and the tuna ceviche was disappointing. As a Cuban, I was a little disappointed that staples were not outstanding. All the other dishes and drinks were outstanding. The mojitos didn’t disappoint and I would definitely go there for the mojitos.
Cuba Libre never disappoints. We always do the tasting menu and what a deal at $45 a head. Always leave with plenty of food. Atmosphere is excellent. All in all a very fun place to eat a very quality meal.
Interesting food and ambiance.
You'll need to scream if you want to get heard.
Our waiter was very opinionated about the foods and drinks we should order, telling me several time to order something else vs what I had selected. She was nice but way too directive to my taste.
Great food, Lily was an amazing waitress, very accommodating. My go to place in DC.
We love Cuba Libre in Philly, but this place just isn’t up to par with food or service. We won’t return.
Great food! A fun atmosphere.
I went here with my work colleagues as a special team treat. Absolutely wonderful! Our server, Keesha was lovely and helpful and set a really nice, relaxed tone and atmosphere for our evening. She gave perfect guidance on menu items and was attentive. Now let's talk food - delicious. And as one of the diners was Cuban, she definitely thought it was authentic. It was so good, that I came another night for dinner with a friend and ordered the very same thing and it was just as good as the first time I had. Do not miss this, it's perfection. Go for the pineapple mojito - truly delicious.
Very average- don’t recommend unless it’s a last resort, maybe it’s good for lunch
Excellent service and excellent food. Great ambiance as well. Highly recommended!!
The place looks amazing from the inside food was ok but the drinks were bland nowhere near authentic and bland in flavor. Services was good!
It was as close to Cuba as you can get without going there. Very cool decor, the menu was amazing, the food did not disappoint & our waitress was delightful. We have a new favorite!
Always a delightful experience
Music too loud, food so so, some part of the food order arrives after eat, lime ingredient in “vaca firta” please is NOT a Cuban typical receipt.
Service was the worst I have ever experienced. We noted a severe food allergy upon entry, upon seating, upon ordering and when the food came, the sever said he had not asked the kitchen. Then he made us wait 44 minutes for a replacement and was not sure of the ingredients then. They were rude and offended when we suggested that they perhaps adjust the check. Will never return to this restaurant
Good food, attractive decor, attentive service. But . . . don't go there during happy hour/early evening dinner hour, unless you bring ear protectors and are alone. Conversation is impossible, it's ear-damagingly loud. I rank it among the five most disturbingly loud restaurants in the city that I've visited in the past couple of years.
Good comfort food; competent and helpful wait staff. This was my second time there; I'll be back. Close to the DC convention center and several museums.
The decor was quaint and unusal. It's decorated like a street in Cuba. The service was good and waitress was quite busy. The food was tasty.
Food is not authentic Cuban food. The food did not have a good flavor at all. The portions of everything from appetizers to desserts are too small for the amount of money they charge. The Cafe con leche is not made with real Cuban coffee. The chairs they have are like a plastic wicker material and the one my husband sat in was sunken in. The chair I sat in was broken so it sort of stuck me in the back of my thigh while I sat in the chair. I would not recommend anyone go to this restaurant.
I was expecting a real Cuban experience and I feel it is a mixed bag. The appetizers are Cuban inspired but I feel like too many ingredients that don’t really come together.
The main dishes we order, vaca frita and lechón were well prepared but very similar in taste and texture. One is beef and the other pork, it should be very easy to get different enjoyment but are spiced in a lemon based that blends them together.
Cuba Libre was great!! The drinks were delicious- try the Pisco Sour. :-). We ordered a variety of appetizers, which were all so tasty. Order the pineapple guacamole with plantains- so good! Service was very good and they even remembered that we were celebrating a birthday.
I had dinner with a friend and absolutely enjoyed my time. Wonderful staff and ambience overall.
Awful service and overall just not a good restaurant. It took 30 minutes for our server to even come to the table to give us water. They also aren’t generous with the bottomless mimosas and I would not recommend
I always enjoy going to Cuba Libre for lunch, although I wish I had more than an hour. I appreciate that they help me keep my lunch hour to an hour! Keep up the great service ... and great food!
Good food but poor service
This place was amazing! Food was great and the service was spot on. We came here while visiting DC and decided to celebrate my moms birthday at this restaurant. It was a great choice and we would highly recommend it to anyone in the area.
We left without eating. We were shown to our table by someone who was grumpy and did not provide any flexibility in where we could sit, then our waiter was impatient and did not wait to answer our questions. Plus the restaurant was beyond noisy.
Our meal for the most part was very good, the meat was not cooked as we requested but they accommodated us very quickly.
Food was amazing! We ordered the PLATO GAUCHO MIXED GRILL - Black Angus skirt and Argentine-cut bavette steaks, jumbo shrimp, marinated chicken breasts, Cortez chorizo sausage and red hot onion rings. Argentinean chimichurri, Cuba Libre steak sauce and salsa criolla. Onion rings were soooo good! Meat was perfectly cooked. Our server was amazing! Great music. Tried the rum flight. So good!
It was a great experience.
I had a business lunch here and it was a very nice environment!
I love coming here ! I had fun with my date . We stayed in the back private room . He loved it!
Amber was a friendly and very fun waitress . Great place to meet, eat and entertain. We came into town for a short vacation stop and had a hankering for Cuban fare. Best choice in DC I am sure.
Good food. Good drinks. Maybe a little pricey for quality but had a good experience.
Yes for the food. No for the service. My server did not check up on food once it was dropped at the table, water refills, dessert options, etc.
