Very simple: food was outstanding (homemade pastries were ridiculously fantastic), staff very attentive and friendly; location very accessible with ample street/garage parking; manager (Angel) very attendant, responsive, and personable.
Excellent restaurant! The AC was a bit aggressive, so bring a sweater. Other than that, go!
Good food, a rum list would help.
Ribs were outstanding
Had a wonderful night at Cuba Libre w/ my wife celebrating our 3rd wedding anniversary. We've been to both the DC and Atlantic City locations and always have a wonderful time. Our waitress Lili took extra good care of us and made sure to make our anniversary extra special.
The food was delicious and savory! Reasonable price and great ambiance. The waitress was also sweet and very helpful. We will be back again.
Ambiance/decor was a little over the top (hokey) but food was good.
Great experience. We probably had the best server I’ve had in a very long time. The food was delicious. Our friends visiting from Colombia loved it.
The food and service made it a great evening out!
We had a great time! We went for our Anniversary and thought it was a perfect place. Good food, music and great service
This is my 4th visit here and the food is always phenomenal and the servers are always attentive, knowledgeable, and prompt.
A real gem! My husband and I went there for Sunday brunch, and it did not disappoint. Great food, great cocktails, great service. Will be back and will bring friends!
We were on a downtown DC Whitman walk on a hot sunny Saturday afternoon and this was late brunch. This restaurant is beautiful inside- the cool cavernous space lit up by stained glass windows and decorative balconies with cascading flowers. It was crowded too- but we were seated right away. We ordered the guacamole -pineappled and delicious- churrasco slider-came with a tasty slice of skewered beef- and yellow rice chicken w/asparagus- all good to go.
The service was gracious- the wait staff readily helpful with directions to an address we needed to locate nearby. Great dining experience.
Server was knowledgeable and courteous. He made great drink and food recommendations. Ambiance is unique in its faux-décor of a Cuban street.
Great food. Did not disappoint me!
Great place to have a nice cuban dinner. Food was great and the atmosphere was amazing.
Loved Cuba libre!!! We sat outside. Weather was perfect. Mango mojito amazing. Sangrias amazing. Loved the empanadas, ribs and fritters but the best was the crab guacamole ❤️🎉🎉😘😘😘
Food and service was amazing. We have eaten Cuban food before but this was far the best. Server was very helpful. Drinks were wonderful.
Overall good experience and great environment. Good service, food and drink!
First time there. Excellent service. Very good food. Try the Havana Special. Black bean soup and the Cubano sandwich are the best ever!!!
The food was oustanding -- not a single bad bite from appetizers through dessert (the shrimp cocktail a particular standout), the Classic Mojito was near-perfect (the mint kept to a proper role and not a dominating force) and our server, Destinee was charming and extremely knowledgeable. We had a great time and hope to come back soon.
Great place, this was my 1st time. Service and the food was outstanding!
We had dinner reservations for 9pm and stayed there for about an hour and a half. Around 10pm, the staff started clearing out the dining room and getting ready for the dancing. We were one of three tables left eating and felt very rushed, so it ruined the last half hour of our date. Other than that, the scene and service is great. A lot of food is friend, but still pretty good.
Cuba Libre did not disappoint. The food was very good and the portions were more than enough. We had dinners ranging in age from 12 to 60 and everyone in our party found a dish they were happy to have ordered. The server was very friendly and attentive throughout the meal.
I would definitely go back next time we are in D.C.
The drinks were ok (somewhat weak). The guac with plaintains was fantastic. The three people I was with really loved their meals. Not so much for me. I had the vegetable paella, which was incredibly salty. In fairness to the kitchen, I did not complain about this so I didn't expect any action from them.
That being said, I would *under normal circumstances* return. I love the ambiance at Cuba Libre, and all my other meals have been out of this world.
However, we're not in *normal circumstances* right now. I dined there the day after a transgender woman apparently was illegally denied access to the women's room. I will not return to Cuba Libre until I'm satisfied that the situation leading to this discriminatory behavior is corrected.
Thank you for automaticity moving us to a quiet section for the restaurant. We had a great time. Good mixture of vibrant and quiet.
I love the ambiance. We come here for the unique feel of Cuba and also the delicious hors d'oeuvres. The food is good for meat lovers, but limited for vegetarians or those, like me, who prefer chicken. Overall nice place. Not cheap but it's quality worth the experience.
Great atmosphere, and the best mojitos I've ever had. The "for 2" menu is a great value and the pork is DELICIOUS. Will definitely be coming back.
Great evening out. Food , service and atmosphere all very good.
Hostesses were very nice and able to seat us even though I was late for my reservation. The food was very good and came out quickly even on a busy night. It is quite loud in the restaurant. Our waitress was a bit aggressive and only gave us water options that we had to pay for. Don’t like paying $12 for a water bottle but that was all she offered us.
This restaurant wrongfully and illegally discriminates against transgender individuals. I will never dine here again and would not recommend it to anyone. If you are looking for good Cuban food in the DC area, try Cubano’s, Mi Cuba, The Cuban Corner, Cuba de Ayer, or Sabor de Cuba. I have been to all of these restaurants and they are all better than Cuba de Libre.
Meh. Had dinner there on a Monday night, sat outside. Not a true Cuban restaurant as our waiter made a priority to point out. More of a mix of Latin flavors influenced by Cuban food. Food was ok, nothing special, Garlic Shrimp and assortment of tapas. Service was slow and inattentive, though waiter was certainly polite, just uninterested. Spent $100 for an app, 2 entrees and 2 drinks. Seemed expensive, even for the neighborhood, considering average everything. Not likely to revisit or recommend.
The brunch was OK but not as good as their dinner menu. Service was unfortunately mixed. The main server was fine, but the person who delivered our meal was surly. Decor was nice.
I've come here several times, always for special occasions. This time it was a joint Father's Day/Birthday celebration. The place is decorated such that one feels as if one is outdoors sitting in a veranda in Cuba. The food is excellent as are the food choices. Noise levels can be a little high but that's mainly because the place is always so full so I'd recommend making reservations. Great drinks and the servers know the dishes and can make excellent recommendations.
Great Date Night
Server was quiet, but efficient. Food was delicious. Atmosphere was great but the dining room was freezing.
The service was bad. We ordered drinks and it took 10 minutes to get them. Waitress didn’t come back to table to check on us until dinner was served. We wanted another round of drinks but we never saw her.
Served dessert while some of our party still had dirty dishes from dinner in front of them.
We ordered the $70 grill to share for two. IT COMES WITH NO SIDES. JEEZ!!! Only with absurdly spicy onion rings.
We spoke to the manager and he gave us plantains and rice and beans. They should throw those in everytime.
Beef overcooked, four sad shrimps, tastelesss chicken. And some other meat. Not worth $35 per person AT ALL.
Just a tourist trap. Amazingly overpriced. Go to Clyde’s instead.
Food was good and although server was quite good, service was slow. May need more servers on the floor.
This place is the bomb
The food and service was amazing! Each one of my friends got a different meal and we all shared them all and one was better than the other. The service was right on, did not have to wait long after we ordered. The waitress even gave us separate checks without even asking. Love this place and would go again.
