I am new to the area and have only visited a select few locations in DC. I found this place to be top quality in service and selection. Because I went during lunch, parking was difficult. I believe valet is offered in the evenings, which would alleviate this issue.
I was here for the first time for my birthday and was not disappointed ! There’s a fun atmosphere, food was delicious and our server was fantastic! Looking forward to returning soon.
Destiny was an amazing server!! Incredible atmosphere
Accomplished the goal of eliminating a hungry state. Nothing special.
Awesome food and drinks!
Love the atmosphere. Friendly servers and great crowd
This place was absolutely fantastic! I went for my 6th year anniversary and enjoyed it so much. My lady and I can't say enough about the ambiance, food and great staff. I would recommend this place to everyone!
Cuba Libre is a lively restaurant/club with an appealing Habana Vieja decor. We really liked the crispy pork dish that we shared for our main course, but thought that the guacamole portion we ordered was very small. Our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly but totally slammed with too many tables. He would disappear for long periods of time -- and this was a week night.
Kayla was great. Food delicious. Service on point !
Great atmosphere. The food was awesome and the music that followed was right on time. Cant wait to return!!
Overall this was disappointing. The main dining room visibly had many tables available but we were placed in a separate smaller room. We were annoyed because the main dining room has very cool theme-img and ambience that makes you feel like your transported to Cuba, but this little room we were sat in was just a plain old room.
We were seated adjacent to a very large table of probably 10-12 people and it seemed like once they got ordering our server completely ignored us. I felt like we hardly enjoyed the meal because literally 2 minutes after our appetizer was served, our main entrees came. Meals should be appropriately paced and not rushed. Furthermore, our server never once returned to our table to ask if we wanted another drink or anything. This place is too expensive to be receiving that level of service.
The food was fine. We had vaca frita, one of our favorite cuban dishes, and it was underwhelming. Vaca Frita literally means fried cow in spanish. Its supposed to be braised shredded beef that is then fried up so its crispy. This vaca frita was 100% not at all crispy. Its like they skipped that step entirely. The waitress did give a disclaimer at the beginning of the meal that this was not traditional food but rather cuban with a modern twist. I don't think this is whats to blame for the lack of crispiness because the menu even said it was supposed to be crispy. It was just poorly prepared.
Lastly, the host stand when we entered advertised an app you could download to pay your bill and it came with a $5 off coupon. Our waitress seemed irked when we tried to use it and seemed to be trying to get us to avoid using it. If you don't want us to use the app then don't advertise it at your host stand! Our service shouldn't be impacted because we are using something the restaurant told us to use.
Overall the experience was disappointing.
I came here because my best friend was in town. Being from South Florida, we both love good Cuban food. The vegetarian paella was absolutely delicious! The maduros were the perfect mixture of soft with the edges burnt just how I like them. Our waitress was so sweet and had great recommendations. I ordered the passionfruit mojito which was way better than the watermelon one got at first. We also stayed past 11 for salsa dancing which was so much fun! We'll definitely be back
The reason why I 'm giving Cuba Libre such a bad review is do to its service. I went there for brunch with a group of our friends the service was terrible we did the bottomless drinking option and it was one of my worse experiences we had to continuously ask for our drinks to be refilled and when we did make the request it was around every minutes. Spoke to the manager 3 times. One of my friends did not even get there first round food. In all honesty, the restaurant was not packed. The manager was able to accommodate some of our request after our third complaint. Great food but just terrible service.
We had brunch at Cuba Libre and it was delicious! I guess there were some changes from the last time some of our group had been to brunch there, but even in that case - the special covers a bunch of food so I promise you will not go hungry!
Great food, drinks and service. Best mojito in DC.
This was a first experience for our party of five and the occasion was a dear friend’s birthday. We all loved the atmosphere , the margaritas, and the food! We also learned upon leaving that at 11:00pm part of the front dining area is cleared to make way for a DJ and salsa which continues until 3:00am. Unfortunately, we were not prepared to stay; however, being able to dine and then have dancing afterwards until the “wee” hours of the morning is a bonus. So, be prepared for a bunch of girlfriends to return for the fun!
Delicious Cuban food with a fantastic ambiance. The portion sizes were reasonable for the price, but the drinks I found to be very overpriced. I would go back and would love to try their Cuban sandwich (I was talked into a pulled pork style meal, which I loved).
Went there before a Caps game. Rock the Red. Quick service. Yummy food !
When I arrived at the restaurant, which was mostly empty, I asked to sit at a window. I was told there were no servers at the window tables (??) but I would be seated as close as possible. I was seated at the one table that looked directly at a wall, not a window. My waiter spent literally ten minutes reviewing every cocktail and food item on the menu. My dining companions and I placed a drink order along with a variety of tapas. We then saw that another party had been seated at a table near the window and already had their drinks. This could not have been more than ten to fifteen minutes after we were seated, and we had yet to receive any food. Clearly, we could have been seated at a window in the first place. We waited and waited for our drinks, but nothing. When the table by the window got their second round of drinks, I went to the hostess stand to complain. She sent the manager over, who came just as the drinks and all of the food arrived. He offered to move us to a window table, which we were not happy to do because the food had just arrived. He then kept asking what I wanted - a free round of drinks, free dessert, what? I wasn't criticizing the service to get something free out of the restaurant - I wanted them to acknowledge their service mistakes and commit to making a change. The waiter, who had become increasingly obsequious, finally disappeared, but not before suggesting we should order more food. Bottom line: the campy atmosphere is fun and the food is good, but the service is terrible. This is the second time I've experienced poor service at this restaurant and with so many great options in the neighborhood, I doubt I'll be back.
delicious authentic Cuban cuisine in an easy location - metro stop gallery place on red line in DC
Waited almost 20 minutes for a server to come to our table, but then they were very apologetic and comped us the crab guacamole, which was thoughtful. Not as many options for pescetarians/vegetarians, since the menu is quite meat focused, but still found a couple choices. Beer menu is also a bit lacking; only had craft beers in bottle, not on draft. Also a bit pricey for what we got. Not sure I'd go back for dinner. Liked the lunch menu much better when I've been in the past, though even then the service wasn't great.
This was my 1st time at Cuba Libre. It was recommended by my date who was as displeased with his Seafood Paella as I was with the tapas (meatball and spinach). We were pleased with our appetizer (chips and dip) as well as with the sangria, mojito and rum shots).
I’m undecided as to whether I will return.
The food was very good and the staff treated us very well.
First time here and I enjoyed myself and the food. It was my boyfriends birthday so I wanted to take him out.
Excellent food, slow service on a very busy President’s Day Weekend.
Lost our reservation, made us wait over an hour. Food was okay but the service and disappointment ruined the entire experience. Manager did not care in the least. She was rude, unprofessional, and could have at least offered an apology. She did not care at all. We spent over $100 on drinks waiting at the bar (there was 5 of us) and clearly wanted a table. We knew there were spots available because we ended up just making a new reservation on open table after 45 minutes and got seated immediately. We should have just done that right away I guess but they assured us they were working on getting us seated. Very awful experience. I will tell people not to go.
We had blast. Our server was good and friendly, i have invited people and am coming back.
I had a great lunch here, but for dinner it is noisy, crowded, with aggressive waiters and high prices that are not justified by the quality of the food. You can do much better elsewhere in Penn Quarter.
It was amazing! Food was great! Very attentive wait staff!!
Cuba Libre's 3-course Rapido Lunch option is an underrated winner for fast, affordable, and delicious lunchtime eats.
Went for lunch with my husband and had their 3-course lunch deals plus the pineapple guacamole. Good food and just the right amount. Hope to come back and try the rest of their menu.
Excellent environment and great touch for Valentines (give the women red roses).
Food was excellent and the music was outstanding. Definitely want to make it a regular spot to visit.
Celebrated my birthday here which is also Valentine’s Day! Great food and ambiance. Will come back!
This time we were anxious to try the added Crispy Pork Shank and was it every worth the effort! Simply delicious from start to finish (although the shank was big enough for at least 4 people instead of just us two). Tapas was great, blistered peppers and Malanga fritters, and I've never had a tastier or more refreshing white wine sangria than the two half pitchers we ended up ordering to accompany another extremely delicious dinner among good friends. Wait staff and service was outstanding as usual, with lots of care about making a fun and tasty dining experience. This happens every time for us and is always appreciated!
I went to Cuba Libre with a friend; the wait was very brief, and the wait staff was fantastic. The bartender was a little slow and honestly not that busy for the wait, but it wasn't terrible. The food (shrimp something...) was good, but a tad pricey, again not really out of line. The dancing was fun!! I'd go back.
Great Latin food and lovely ambiance. Try the No-jito for a great alcohol free drink.
I took a quick trip to DC to get away & celebrate my 39th birthday. Cuba Libre was a cool spot for me & my 7 guests. We had a table in the back room which suited us. The food & grilled pineapple mojitos were on point! The staff were friendly. It was restaurant week so they had great specials to select. Everyone enjoyed their food. Our reservation was for 9 PM so my appetite was small. I got the De la Casa Empanadas that were bursting with flavor & a side of Arroz Con Frijoles. They had Latin music if you wanted to stay to dance. We found parking across the street in a secure garage for $10. I would definitely go back!
The food and the service were wonderful. It was a lively and spirited atmosphere. The menu consisted of some delicious items, like the crab guacamole with banana chips, that I had never eaten before and thoroughly enjoyed. The staff was helpful and proactive, and it was a great experience.
Very crowded dining area. I was bumped twice while seated. Food was okay. Noise level was high. A little pricey. Not one of my faves
Cuba Libre was a great choice for my birthday dinner. The food was scrumptious and the alcoholic cocktails were yummy! The ambiance made you feel as if you were in Cuba. My guests stayed for the nightlife party with great Latin music to dance the night away!
