Croton Reservoir Tavern Ratings and Reviews
Good service. My dish was memorable. Very convenient location at Bryant Park. Too bad no non-alcoholic beer. Restaurants that miss this essential make a mistake. More people are asking for NA beer now than ever. An adult beverage with fine food is essential for a good experience and sparkling water is not always a suitable alternative. I look forward to my next visit to Croton Reservoir Tavern.
I have been a customer for nine years. Historically I take every new employee to lunch and several business contacts to dinner. I may need to find a new restaurant. The new hanger steak sandwich was terrible....tough with no flavor.....the cheese and vegetable didn't go well. I was sick all night. Luckily my guests ordered burgers and salad. You need to remove it from menu and get the steak sandwich back....it was thinly sliced cooked perfectly at medium well with a great dressing.
I chose the Croton Reservoir because I am originally from Westchester County, the site of the present-day actual Reservoir, and I was interested in the story behind the name. When I looked at the menu, I knew I had made the right decision, although the name suggests a very different type of cuisine. The Tuna Avocado was perfectly cooked, and the Carrot Burrata was a delicious small plate. The Berry Crumble for dessert topped off an outstanding meal. The service was attentive (not often found when dining alone), and it was a great experience.
Fabulous food and service in this restaurant with lovely ambience. The bartenders was friendly and attentive, the waitress seated was great very attentive as well but not overly so. The food was phenomenal and my daughter who was vegan was delighted with her food. This was our first time here and we will be back.
It was a pre-Broadway show dinner. Early, around 6pm. Very busy and noisy. We were offered a 'quieter' table in the back, slightly away from the bar that runs the entire length of the place.
Our server was excellent -- in fact she was the only thing good about the place. Everything we ordered had to be ordered twice.
Drinks: We ordered a couple of martinis. After a really long wait, our server returned to say they ran out of Stoli. Okay. Odd, but okay. Server said the bartender recommended a substitute. We went with it. It was dreadful. Drinks were sent back to be remade with a different vodka.
Food: After a long and patient discussion with our server about dietary restrictions, we ordered tuna burgers without the bun. The thoughtful server came back after a while to say the tuna burger DOES contain bread crumbs, so it wouldn't work for my wife, who then switched to a different dish, which took a while to prepare.
Meanwhile my own tuna burger finally arrived. It smelled and tasted really really old. Like sitting-on-the-dock-in-the-sun-for-a-week old. A member of the restaurant was passing by and asked how the food was. I told him the tuna was inedible. He took it away at once. I ordered a hamburger instead, which turned out to be ok but mediocre.
So, service was really good. End of story.
Amazing food and service!! Visited prior to an evening show and they accommodated our time constraints and provided exceptional service. The waitress was so efficient she was able to work enough time in for us to have dessert!! We had their house made hummus that was so amazing. It came with fresh naan, carrots and celery. We also had their lobster bisque that was so rich and creamy. We had three different dinners between us with the impeccable tuna that had this amazing mango salsa, the salmon perfectly cooked and the quinoa salad with amazing flavor. The atmosphere was cozy and provided a great place to return for Happy Hour as the bar was full with locals. Our experience could not have been any better with the food and service.
I've been to Croton before. This time, we ordered from the appetizers (small plates) sharing the carrot burrata salad, and I had the crab cake and my daughter had the tuna salad plate. We had wine by the glass - great meal! Our server was a very nice young lady who looked after us very well even though there was a large after-work crowd. Make a reservation as this place fills up. I do recommend this restaurant and plan to go back.
We tried this place as a pre-theater food option. We would not go back. The hamburger was ok, but overall the food was mediocre. It being Friday night, the bar was jammed with after-work drinkers making the noise level nearly unbearable. The salad was served after the entree. Coffee took forever to arrive. Service was mediocre, but in truth, the server was overwhelmed with trying to service too many tables. Wouldn't go back here.
Have dined at this restaurant numerous times . My last experience was very disappointing for both food and atmosphere. The restaurant was extremely cold and drafty and as a result my warm dinner turned quite cold . The sever was not understanding and actually said there is nothing I can do . I walked away very displeased and will never return .
As my office is nearby, I often have business lunches here. Upon arriving on 3/6 for lunch at noon we were told there was a new chef and new menu. The menu wasn't that new, but rather a shortened version of their previous menu with fewer choices. Right at 12:15 they were already out of their everyday lobster bisque. The food service took forever. The spinach dip was mostly cheese and a little spinach (terrible). The shrimp on my Caesar salad was undercooked and the lettuce was soggy. The steak sandwich was mostly just bread. We were brought the wrong kind of fries. It took an extraordinary amount of time to get our check and pay it. Our server was pleasant and apologetic, but slow. It will be a long time before I try it again, if ever.
This has always been a reliable place near the office in a neighborhood with few moderate sit down spots. Had not been in a while -- and the prices have gone up!!
Two main course salads and two coffees with tip came to $70!! For lunch! That's insane. This is no longer in the moderate zone and is not special enough to justify these prices. Not sure how often I'll be back Too bad. Always liked this place.
