About

This restaurant is permanently closed. Crossings restaurant is located in the beautiful historic Edwards and Faw building on Mission St. in South Pasadena, originally built in 1908. Crossings utilized the beautiful brick and mortar structure to inspire a beautiful restaurant space. The downstairs dining room encompasses a fully open kitchen and 14 foot ceilings. A patio under a 100 year old oak sits right next to the Metro Gold Line, providing a truly urban space not often found in LA. A wine loft sits between the first and second floors, offering a wide variety of choices. Two bars, one on each floor, offer hand crafted cocktails as well as barrel aged selections made in house by our bartenders.

This place is a shadow of what it used to be. Crowd was very sparse. They also piped in ELO, Eagles and Led Zepplin music which was quite odd and didn’t contribute to the dinning experience. Our waitress was lovely though. Sure looks like Crossings is on its last leg- won’t be going back any tune soon.

Ordered the Rib Eye For Two. There was maybe enough rib eye for two, but the sides that came with it were so small that they were barely enough for one of us. For a $80 dish that is unacceptable. At least, write next to it that it is certainly not enough for two people.

This is my second visit - sitting in the outdoor garden with occasional train passings to remind one that they are in the city. Food is very good, service without a hitch. We asked to please stay in the outdoor garden regardless of the weather and Crossings was very helpful. Can't think of a better place to sit and talk with friends while drinking and eating excellent fare in South Pasadena.

We’ve eaten at the restaurant several times but last night was the first time in over one year. I thought their menu had changed and looking at other reviews that seems to be the case. I was very disappointed. The reduced portions (filet mignon) and non-traditional sides (hash brown potatoes with steak) might work with reduced pricing but if you’re charging like a premium restaurant the food needs to be up to par! My son’s uni pasta dish had one very small piece of uni. On a positive note the drinks were great and the the service was outstanding.

Spectacular, creative culinary experience. Cooking is not only of the highest caliber, this is one of the most creative restaurants not just in Pasadena but in all of LA.

Highly recommend it!

We went for a Blackboard Eats special tasting menu, so it was perhaps not the best example of what this restaurant is capable of, but I was certainly intrigued enough to give this place another shot in the future. Standouts to me were the cocktails and wines, especially the barrel-aged cocktail we tried. Also the spring pea soup was surprisingly spicy and gorgeously plated. The entrees, however, were weak, with a large slab of wholly useless "compressed pineapple" accompanying the tiny bit of pork (al pastor), and the chicken drenched in sweet glaze. The chicken itself, though, was juicy and meaty, and the skin had a nice snap to it despite the glaze. Finally, the service was excellent: friendly, mellow, not overly attentive despite the small, Tuesday night crowd. I look forward to trying some different things at a return visit.

Excellent service. Excellent food. Excellent atmosphere. Altogether charming and delightful.

Note: there is an upstairs so if anyone in your group is handicapped be certain to mention it ahead of time when you make reservations because there is NO elevator.

Also, my friend ordered the avocado toast which turned out be guacamole on toast. Guacamole is wet and not dense so the toast was soggy. If you order the avocado to start be sure to tell them you do not want guacamole but need avocado sliced and smashed without all the guacamole ingredients.

The omelets were excellent and the French toast was delicious.

We came here for Mother's Day Brunch. The menu sounded good, but seem limited. There were only brunch entrees, no appetizers. Someone ordered prime rib hash and this was quite disappointing- the "hash" was just boiled small potatoes with gravy. In my mind, has means shredded potatoes that are fried, so he was surprised. I ordered a chop salad and this was quite bitter, must have been the endive, but it was difficult to eat. Another ordered pancakes and the plate had 2 smallish pancakes that were dense. We liked the setting of the brunch. The food was a bit disappointing.

This is really beautiful place! The service was very welcoming, food was ready real quick, which we appreciated having two kids with us. There is no kids menu, but pancakes option worked well. Food was delicious, we will definitely consider coming back again.

I was surprised to find at my most recent visit that the menu has been dramatically reduced and changed. They no longer serve their epic swordfish entree or their fabulous dessert sliders. Disappointed with the new choices.

Superb setting in restored brick building, decorated in themes of early South Pasadena.

The upstairs views are great, service first class, and the food preparation and presentation first class.

Our favorite upscale restaurant.

sorry you asked for it... My husband and I went there 3 years ago and had a lovely experience... came back to food you could not pronounce or possible eat....... prices were god awful, we ended up getting the rib eye at $75 to split with some lousy broccoli and the meat was soooooooooooooooooooooooo fatty oh gosh... I could not wait to get out of there.....

This is not the same restaurant I came to look forward to visiting. Sub-par menu, over-priced wine and an amateur wait staff. I won’t be back until there is a recommitment to quality—and the ability to deliver.

Lovely ambiance with 3 different dining locations- upstairs, downstairs with the street view, and back patio. They surprised us with a very nice card and gift for our anniversary. Nice and unexpected touch. Service was great, food too. Vegan menu has interesting options. I had the Cauliflower steak and Husband had fancy real hamburger. Would like to go back and sit on the patio with an old-fashioned and appetizers.

We enjoyed a delicious and totally relaxed Easter Brunch at Crossings. I have been for dinner several times and always enjoyed our experience, but this was my first time for brunch. The menu selections were a good mix of breakfast and lunch fare. We each ordered something different and everyone was very happy with their meal. The service was friendly and attentive. I especially appreciated that given it was a holiday that they did not rush us or offer a special (over-priced) menu. I will definitely be back for brunch.

Terrific, creative food from Chef Kevin Malone! The wide selection of barrel aged cocktails are delicious, mellowed by the oak, and complementary of the food. And, the service was outstanding. This was a very exciting, engaging meal. We'll be back as the menu continues to evolve.

Crossings is one of our local favorites! Though it no longer has the best bartender in Los Angeles (Reuben Pascual), the new chef is extraordinary! Excellent service by Sweeney and Christian paired with fine wine and a melt in your mouth salmon entree featuring beets, yogurt, with smoked roe made for one of the most exquisite salmon dinners we have experienced in a long time. Thank you!

We have read some of the recent reviews on OpenTable. We feel compelled to write our own.

Crossings has totally revamped their menu....for us, we could not be happier. We have been regular guests at Crossings since the day they opened, but the menu had not changed and, frankly, we got a bit bored. Yes, the menu was more extensive. Now, the menu is smaller but the execution and care that goes into each creation goes beyond what was on the previous menu. We have already been in 3 times in the last month.

On this last visit, we had the Mushroom Salad...so many different layers in terms of taste and presentation. The Hamachi Collar was outstanding. It was unlike any we have every had. The fish was very fresh, marinated with a kick of tangerine and chili, served with mini tortillas. What a fun dish to eat. Finally, the Uni Carbonara was beyond compare. A very labor intensive dish, this chef almost makes it entirely from scratch. Very rich and satisfying.

Bravo, Crossings. We will be back (again) soon.

While the dishes were creative and everything we had tasted very good, the menu was too limited. Hopefully the new chef will add a chicken or duck option to the entrees.
