We started with the cheese & charcuterie appetizer which could have easily been shared by a party of four. We enjoyed the steak tacos and shrimp alfredo for main courses. Both were very tasty. The white chocolate mousse dessert was an excellent way to finish the bottle of DuCard Popham Red that we enjoyed with dinner. Our compliments on the wine list which exclusively features some of our favorite Virginia wines. Thank you also to the owner, Chris, for the friendly service. We will return.
Chef Bill presented two awesome meals. His presentation and personal touch visiting our table was a delight. Eric was also a fabulous staff. He went out of his way to ensure we had an enjoyable evening.
Delicious food served in an early American plantation home atmosphere.
We loved it! Very quiet with soft colonial music and decor. We will be returning!
Great, fresh food. Wonderful and polite staff. Great inn and surrounding grounds. Nice place to eat and watch a sunset!
All the meals were exceptional. The staff gave 100% while serving us our meals. No request went unanswered during our dinning at the tavern.
Very friendly and engaging staff.
Ambience was pleasant - we ate out on the porch which offered a lovely view of the hills - but it's MUCH more casual than the pictures on the website would lead you to believe. We brought dressy clothing for dinner, expecting a somewhat fine dining experience, but ended up eating in shorts and tee shirts.
The crabcakes were not very good - mushy and lukewarm. Rice was undercooked and underseasoned. The roasted vegetables were well cooked - the highlight of an otherwise below average plate of food.
The selection of local wines was quite good.
the best crab cakes i have ever eaten and the special sauce was out of this world
The food was truly wonderful, delicious sauces, and the historic atmosphere cannot be beat as a dining experience (it is a bit rustic for the overnight stay, and grounds not very well kept). Our only complaint was the wait staff - our server had apparently never served a table before and forgot everything including menus and water. The staff were definitely casually dressed (tank tops and leggings or shorts); it was a very hot day but at least an apron to look more professional would have been nice.
We enjoyed our dinner at Meander. Being able to dine on site was nice after running all day long. The food was good and was more of a home cooked meal than a destination restaurant. Eating by candlelight in a quaint dining room was pleasant. I would eat there again if staying at the Inn.
we were celebrating our 50th wedding anniv. and the hostess/waitress was wonderful.
also history buffs so all her knowledge about the history of the old plantation was very interesting. we will certainly recommend the inn and plan on a return visit.
The restaurant is extremely quiet...almost too quiet. No music playing, and you could hear everyone's conversation.
The potato soup was lukewarm.
The steak my wife ordered was not seasoned and heavily grisly/fat.
Although the atmosphere was nice, it certainly wasn't worth what we spent on the meal.
It’s a small and quaint restaurant on a great historical plantation in central VA. I would certainly recommend. They had great wine, fantastic crab cakes, some really good sides and wonderful cheesecake. Sadly their menu is limited and they do not have a dedicated wait staff, so the hostess takes your order and gives it to the chef. This means we had to wait for the hostess to finish with taking orders so we could be seated. It wasn’t a big deal to us, but if you’re expecting something a little more refined you want to temper your expectations. There is great history at the restaurant which is actually part of a bed and breakfast. I will definitely go back and hope you take the time to visit.
What a wonderful experience we had at Elim. We celebrated my husband’s birthday with friends and it was perfect. Lovely setting, good service and creative and delicious food. It was definitely worth the drive. We look forward to returning.
