November in Sedona feels like a shoulder season and the restaurant was very quiet- maybe 5 tables seated in a large unremarkable dining room. It was also very dark and we needed to use our phones to read the menu. Luckily the server had a small flashlight for us to use. Fine dining?
I hesitate to call this fine dining because of the service. While the servers were very nice, their level of professionalism and attention to detail were not in line with fine dining e.g. the chef seafood selection was written on a note pad, our orders were written down from a very limited fixed menu. There was much ado about our allergies and it was mentioned numerous times throughout dinner and was confused between us. Our first course was entered incorrectly and I had to wait 5-10 minutes for the correct order while my partner waited with his food getting cold.
Making it a pleasant evening was the dinner itself. The flavors were very good. I had the asparagus with lemon oil and porcini - interesting texture combinations. Rabbit with vegetables was a nice presentation and good flavor combination and the dessert of “sticky toffee pudding” was delicious. My partner also liked his food very much. They need to watch on a slow night that everything is fresh and hasn’t been waiting too long before served - the amuse looked and tasted like it was prepared in the morning and was left in the refrigerator as an afterthought.
All in all we had a nice time and enjoyed our dinner. They need to work on staff training and service for a dinner at this price point.
The food at this restaurant is not good. Thankfully we had just 3 courses and didn't even finish that. They came around with rolls that they seemed very proud of because they were "just out of the oven" and they were so hard they must have heated up some from a couple of days ago. We don't mind paying prices like theirs when the food is good but this place should be ashamed. There are many good places to eat in Sedona. This is not one of them!
Had never experienced a menu like this where you pick 3 items for $95 or 4 for $110. You choose from 5-6 appetizers, 5-6 main courses,and/or 5-6 desserts. Service was great, presentation was very nice, but unfortunately the food was mediocre at best. Menu items all had flashy names and descriptions but what actually arrived was certainly not worth the money.
Not impressed with service especially considering how much your meal is. Portions are minuscule. Do not dine here if you are hungry.
Our server spilled hot coffee over the table told him to stop pouring because it was spilling, he continued.
I had coffee on my pants and boots. This wasn’t the worst of it. Steak completely over cooked but I did not want to complain because our server not real present.
Had to ask for fork with salads. Then we received our dinners, no fork or steak knife, we waited about 6 minutes to locate our server. Then dessert was delivered no forks, had to wait again and ask for forks.
Every table got bread before there salad, we finally asked for bread when we were almost finished with our salads.
Not impressed at all should have talked with manager.
Will not dine there ever again.
We were redirected to dine indoors, which changed the entire experience as the room inside was not the same. The food, while very tasty was portioned quite small....which at those prices was unexpected. Also, when we had dessert, and coffee we were shocked to be charged $8 per cup of regular and avergae coffee. The waiter removed those charges and apologized, nonetheless...that was terrible.
The waitstaff is excellent. The experience and the meal was disappointing.
Wonderful creek side service. Prix fixxe menu was delicious and with beautiful presentation and attentive service. Extensive wine menu.
Beautiful setting but many details of the food and service were missed so it wasn’t the “wow” meal we had expected.
Absolutely loved it! Surprised my husband w/a special dinner. We were both wowed; so much in fact, we went back for lunch two days later! Can’t say enough great things about the fabulous food, scenery, ambiance, and stellar wait staff. It’s a favorite of ours now.
From service to food our experience was great. Even at night you can see the creek. Wonderful anniversary dinner.
A total disappointment, high prices for a very regular meal.
Beautiful setting but the food was nothing special, sone even lacking taste. The setting was beautiful, the waitress service was very good but unfortunately the kitchen was not.
I was looking forward to this meal and it was a let down. For the price the food was just okay and I wanted to be wowed. You are paying for the scenery and that’s about it. Tab.es are very close together and you can hear everyone around you.
A dinner we will never forget
We always love coming here to eat. The food and service is wonderful. It is such a romantic place to have dinner. I would recommend L'Auberge to anyone going to Arizona. This is one of my favorite places to visit.
Phenomenal dinner creek side on a beautiful evening.
Despite numerous ownership changes in the past year Cress remains the premier place to go for dinner in Sedona--when you want a special evening with that special person for a celebration or a fine meal. Service was a little less attentive than two years ago in our inaugural dinner there--but still hands down the finest dining experience we have seen in years! We'll be back!
Food was great. Everything was cooked to our liking. Server (Colby) was extremely knowledgeable about wine pairings and ensured we had everything necessary for a wonderful experience!
The venue is beautiful and the wait staff was excellent. The fish was dry and the lamb was small and, while okay, it seemed to taste like powderd rosemary. Desserts were the best part of the meal. Sorry to provide a mediocre review, however, it just was not great but the place and service were good.
Waiter was outstanding and personally interested in us. Menu was good. Food was delicious. The location of our table just above Oak Creek was romantic.
Only unfortunate problem was a wedding up the hill at the resort was noisy - both the music and wedding guests.
Gorgeous atmosphere on a rushing creek. Waiter was very attentive. Wine list good. The food was very good but not great. Pork belly was not tender. Worth a visit, though. Just stick to salads and beef or chicken.
Food was a disappointment, but eating on the cell was lovely.
Worthy of a Michelin star or two!!!!
Ambiance rating is due to inside eating due to weather.
POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES. POSITIVES ARE THE LOCATION ON THE CREEK IS OUTSTANDING AND THE FOOD AND SERVICE FROM OUR WAITRESS WERE BOTH VERY GOOD. MY WIFE AND I WERE THERE CELEBRATING OUR 35TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY. THE NEGATIVES ARE WE ARRIVED AT OUR RESERVATION TIME BUT WERE NOT SEATED UNTIL 30 MINUTES LATER, AND ONLY AFTER MAKING SEVERAL INQUIRIES AS TO WHEN OUR TABLE WOULD BE READY. WE WAITED AT THE BAR AND HAD A DRINK BUT THERE WAS NEVER AN OFFER TO BUY A DRINK TO MAKE UP FOR THE DELAY, NOR WAS THERE ANY FREE DESSERT TO SAY HAPPY ANNIVERSARY. WE HAD EATEN THE PREVIOUS TWO NIGHTS AT LISA DAHLS'S TWO FLAGSHIP RESTAURANTS IN SEDONA AND HAD WONDERFUL EXPERIENCES AT BOTH. I WOULD RECOMMEND BOTH VERY HIGHLY. BASED UPON THE BAD EXPERIENCE AT CRESS AND THE COST OF THE MEAL, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND CRESS TO ANYONE.
Really spectacular setting and well worth the price of the three course meal. Dress up or come straight from a hike for a truely memorable dining expirence. Superb service . Really beautiful.
Disappointed with our experience. We were sat 15 minutes after our reservation time. They took forever to bring our drinks. Tables around us were given bread and we were not. We had to ask for water refills. They were out of two menu items that we ordered. However, the setting along the creek was beautiful. They did try to make it up to us by discounting our dinner. Would have preferred a better experience.
INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE. GREAT FOOD, AMAZING SERVICE. WE ATE BY THE OAK CREEK AND THE SOUND OF THE WATER ENHANCED EVERYTHING.
BE PREPARED FOR AN EXPENSIVE BUT TERRIFIC DINNER.
Dining creekside was lovely. Food presentation was top notch. Very knowledgeable servers. Setting is wonderful. One place we will always remember.
Beautiful charming setting outstanding service.
Great experience and food. Loved our stay at the hotel and dining at Cress. Great service and beautiful venue, especially sitting outside next to the creek.
The setting is absolutely magical in early evening with the sounds of a babbling brook, white table clothes, porch heaters and even velvety blanks if the weather is chilly. The set menu is delicious - light but filling, and the service is top notch.
Very romantic and hospitable, the wait staff was very helpful and friendly. We had a table closest to the creek and they immediately turned on the heater to keep us comfortable.
Perfect service. Our waitstaff was attentive and helpful. The food was disappointing however. Scallop entree was oversalted which prevented any substantial scallop taste. My wife's arctic char was just average. Three course meal with one drink each was $275 before gratuity. Not worth half that.
We had an elegant dinner to celebrate an important birthday.
It was perfect!
It was a special occasion. Our fortieth anniversary. We originally were looking forward to eating outside by the creek but the weather was too cold and windy. They were great about accommodating a change to inside the restaurant and gave us a lovely table. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They gave good recommendations regarding food and wine. We had a wonderful time and felt special!!
Wish you had chopsticks available for the poke-bowl!
It was wonderful with very kind and attentive staff!
Food was a delicious!!!
Service was outstanding!!!
Problems was only with waiting time.
We came about 8pm (reserved time) and was seated only about 8:40.
Rained and service to be seated sucked. Completely overpriced
Amazing experience! Our waiter Colby was fantastic. We really enjoyed our anniversary celebration at Cress on Oak Creek!
