Creola Ratings and Reviews
I picked Creola to have dinner with my husband's parents. We started with some cocktails and then head to some amazing appetizers. I'm particularly fond of the Shrimp bourbon street. We followed our meals with the Shrimp and Crawfish Etouffee and Fried Chicken. Both were extremely tasty and one of us could have easily repeated their entree. It was that good! Finally we ended with French silk pie and caramel beignet for dessert. Although our stomachs were full, we are glad we had space for dessert, because these were to eat and cry for more :)
Overall we had an excellent experience, from food taste and presentation, service and atmosphere.
We will definitely be coming back!!
What a fabulous meal. We invited another couple. New menu items added. Revamped wine list, now includes several Cabs. Shared Appetizers: Ahi Tuna Taco Tartar, Shrimp Bourbon St, Okra. Main courses: Jambalaya, Shrimp Etouffee & softshell crab (new dish), Cornmeal Crusted Catfish, Brined Fried Chicken. Everyone left with a smiling tummy.
A good friend's Birthday.
Edwin, owner, is welcoming, charming and an excellent host. He also makes an outstanding Sazarak, my favorite New Orleans cocktail.
Food was exceptional. We had the soft shell crab special; outstanding is the only way to describe. All around a wonderful Sunday Brunch/Lunch day. Very comfortable setting and very hospitable. Went a few times before for dinner, now lunch and will continue to go back.
This has become one of our go-to restaurants. The food is consistently great. My filet was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the vegetable we prepared properly, no overcooked or unreasonably naked. Can't get my husband to order anything other Shrimp Etouffee because it's so good.
The decor projected warmth which I liked. Next came the complimentary cornbread which was fluffy and piping hot. Another plus. But I was honestly disappointed by both the gumbo and the fried chicken. The gumbo was on the bland side and the chicken was just a tad overly fried. I had one bite of the shrimp/crawfish etouffe and thought that was a superior choice. The classic beignet should achieve a pillow of hot air inside. Not here. The panna cotta though was on point.
The welcome was perfect. Sat at the bar and met Edwin, the owner. Cocktails/wine good.
Early service was good, the the server got lost. Waited for order, then waited for the desert menu, then waited for the check.
Too bad, we really liked this place, the food and the owner.
Will go back for another try because the food was good.
Love the choice of Mardi Gras menu or entrees. Portions are reasonable, yet generous. Loved the wasabi encrusted Ahi and the butter lettuce salad with goat cheese. The vinaigrette has a little spice to it, contrasting very nicely with the sweet oranges and tangy cheese.
Not real hungry so we decided to do a round of appetizers Tuna Taco TT, Fried Okra, Shrimp Bourbon St, and a Butter Lettuce with Goat cheese paired with Sazerac / Martini just right. Unfortunately this night there were some very noisy guests in the restaurant, we moved to the quieter bar area and finished our drinks.
This was the second time we visited Creola. The first time we went was the reason we came back. Edwin, the owner, is very personable and makes awesome cocktails. I suggest a visit to the bar area for a splendid Sazarak, a drink we first had in New Orleans, and reproduced as if we were still there. The food is inviting and very, very tasty. We had two appetizers, a salad and then split the entrée; plenty of food especially with the corn bread, which was fantastic. We will be going back again, for sure!
Shrimp and grits were great. Shrimp po' boy was pretty good - better than expected. Crab and shrimp bisque was a little "thing" but flavorful. Corn hush puppies were "blah", but we didnt taste the crawfish hush puppies. Overall worth a try if you are in the mood for Cajun fare.
BTW was a birthday lunch for a friend, and the waiter brought by beignets for birthday dessert without being asked to - very cool!
I couldn't be more pleased with the food and service that we received. I wish I could remember our waitress' name, but she was absolutely fantastic! She was so sweet and put together a little birthday beignet together as we were celebrating my father's birthday. I would HIGHLY recommend getting the sweet iced coffee. It seriously tasted like Haagen Dazs coffee ice cream...it was super addicting! The food was also absolutely delicious and Creola will now definitely become one of my go-to spots from here on out. I can't wait to try out more of their offerings the next time I visit. Five stars all around!!!
Much improved experience than our last time visiting (thank you, Nick, for acknowledging earlier staffing problems and getting them fixed). Meal was excellent -- filet mignon cooked to perfection and the buttermilk brined fried chicken is excellent. Server Emily is the best!
We have been there with family for lunch, and we went back with friends a few weeks later for dinner. The food in New Orleans creole, and thus quite different than most other places in the bay area. The beignets for dessert are a must.
Everyone enjoyed their meals. Reservations are recommended. We live in Sunnyale, so it was a bit of a drive; but well worth it.
If you want your New Orleans food fix, Creola is a good place to go. We had the Mardi Gras pre fixe for one and it was plenty of food for the two of us. Everything was very tasty and what we expected. We had 5:30 reservations and were seated quickly. It looked like Creola had just opened. We expected fairly quick service as we only had 1.5 hrs. before we had to leave. My only complaint would be that service between courses was very slow. It even took way too much time to bring us our check. The occupancy did pick up after we sat down, but there shouldn't have been that much delay between courses. We did get out on time, but...still slow service. Excellent food and I would go back.
