This was our third visit, and while we loved the winter menu, the changes were really exciting. Yes, the room is too noisy, but the atmosphere and comfort, combined with a good choice of amazing tastes more than compensate.
And, obviously, service is friendly and attentive to all needs.
Had an opportunity to try Creekwood Restaurant on Mother's Day. It was quite good . . .my dining partner and I both ordered a pasta dish, preceeded by beautifully prepared asparagus for an appetizer. We split a bottle of organic Prosecco wine, a light, slightly effervescnet white, which went well with the rich pasta; finished the meal with two different desserts . . . .flourless chocolate cake and carrot cake, both accompanied by fab ice creams. All in all, meal was wonderful. It WAS Mom's Day so it was extremely busy and the staff appeared to be quite anxious to turn the table. Ordinarily, that "rushed" feeling would be off-putting. . . under the circumstances, not surprising. We would definitely go back.
I really like this restaurant! I've been twice now and on the second visit felt like they'd addressed some of their earlier issues such as noise level. The service was exceptionally attentive, from the waiter to the busboy to the owner. Enjoyed the pasta and pizza and a small but decent wine list. Love to see the neighborhood offering up such a great local spot.
We sat at the counter overlooking the kitchen and really enjoyed watching the chefs work. We ordered the meatballs which were crispy.on the outside and so flavorful in a fresh and spicy tomato sauce. A pizza topped with mushrooms came next-perfect! We also had the asparagus with breadcrumbs and a light sauce. 10 out of ten. It was our second time at Creekwood and we'll return.
Good food but the cost is pretty high for what it is.
We love Creekwood! It’s warm, unpretentious, and inviting and the food is fantastic.
We brought foodie friends to intro them to Creekwood & they were impressed! What a great place. The owners are so committed to making it the best it can be & they achieve this. We love Creekwood & will continue to introduce as many friends and clients as we can.
awesome food, but the most amazing service. our waiter made sure we had a super special dining experience. 11/10 would recommend
Loved it! Great experience! Food, ambiance, staff! Great community space! We will be back!
Great for date night
Love this place! Had my heart set on a few items on the menu posted online, but they were edited from the in house menu.
One of the best overall places to eat when you combine the food, price, ambiance. The outdoor seating is very lovely. Comfortable chairs, charming plants, a westerly view....
We had reservations and were seated almost as soon as we walked in. They host was gracious and pleasant and accommodating with our request to change seats. The first course was gnudi, a little high on salt but light. The side dish- artichokes were the best dish we ate there. The main course- chicken did not have much flavor and the fettuccine was did not have a good balance of flavors (could have used some acid, I think). All in all the meal was satisfying.
The food was superb. My daughter and I shared the Little Gem salad, a side of asparagus (truly delicious). We also shared two wonderful pasta dishes (fettuccine and the agnolotti). Food, service could not have been better. The noise level and ambiance was a problem for us. Tables are lined up in long row and its difficult not to interrupt and be interrupted by your neighbors, no matter how polite the crowd.
Food was very good and creative with Cal Med Italian flavors. The merguez pizza was delicious and spicy, grilled calamari was tender, delicious beet salad with citrus, and wonderful pasta. Must save room for dessert too - the carrot cake with cardamom gelato was amazing. Great ambiance and very thoughtful design. This is a neighborhood gem and a destination too! We will definitely be back.
I had a friend in town who wanted lamb and I knew Creekwood has lamb shank on the menu from our previous visit. We arrived and greeted nicely by host and seated. Waiter immediately greeted us and offered us menus and took drink orders.
My friend ordered the lamb. It had great flavor but arrived barely warm. She never spoke up though and told them. When I asked for a taste, I couldn’t believe how cold it was. A shank needs to be served hot so the fat doesn’t congeal. When we ordered it two nights ago it was perfect. So, I think that is going to be the point of my review; inconsistency.
Last time we were there the little gems was perfect, This time it was under dressed and lacking flavor. Last time the squid appetizer barely had any squid on the plate. This visit, the plate was full of beautiful cooked Monterey Bay squid. It was delicious.
Maybe they are training line cooks? But I want to be able to count on a restaurant for consistently putting out good food. I think they do this with their pasta. I will keep coming back. I think Creekwood seems worth it.
Another thing to note is Creekwood has an excellent wine list.
The pizza oven was temporarily out of service, so we tried salad and pasta. Delicious. Lovely little place very near our home. We’ll be back soon to try the pizza.
This was our first time there and we will definitely go back. The food was excellent. The wait staff felt like they were newbies in the job. A little rough. Cutlery was thrown down hard and loud when replacing. Timing of food was off. Our main wait person disappeared a lot and we had to ask for her. None of this would stop us from coming back. Food was excellent.
Little Gems salad with the buttermilk dressing was tangy and had texture with crunchy croutons. Homemade pasta was cooked perfect and sauce coated each bite. Beet salad was yummy. Squid starter was very good. Would have liked a little more squid, but that because it was so good. Another standout was the Ribeye. We ordered medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. I want to come back and try the other pasta dishes and the chicken.
It was fantastic. Service and food were incredible! Definitely coming back!
I’ve had the fettuccine and Cameroni several times. I love the mushroom pizza and Little Gems salad. The space is beautifully done. They have installed a new sound absorption panel on the ceiling. The food and service are terrific.
Great place, great food and wonderful staff. Looking forward to going back!
Yummy! Everything ordered was very good. Grilled calamari salad was great!
While the service was good, and the wine was an excellent value, the pizza crust arrived burnt (and the burnt taste dominated); the grilled squid was not to be found (maybe my partner got' em all), the rigatoni was the best dish by far, and the carrot cake with cardamom ice-cream was generous. Final verdict; my partner, who chose this restaurant for their birthday dinner, enjoyed the experience very much.
Our meal was very good. The squid was excellent. The pasta with mushrooms delicious but on the salty side. The chicken was excellent too - very moist and flavorful.
Great service, delicious food. Parking can be tricky, but definitely worth going out of your way for.
Food is excellent and service outstanding. This is a family friendly place and little kids can be loud. So if that bothers you, go later in the evening, after most kiddies’ bedtime. We love this place, and will often return, early or late, for the food overwhelms any distractions.
Great food! The place is fantastic
Solid menu. Will be back.
Wonderful service and good wine. The meatballs, which many reviewers rave about as soft and delicious, were dry, overcooked and not at all soft. The sauce was delicious so the overcooking was really a shame. Similarly, the pork in the ragu was dry and overcooked. Also a shame since the pasta was perfectly al dente and the sauce flavorful. Too expensive to not take care with the meat.
Excellent food, excellent service, but prepare for a loud environment. The management is very accommodating. We had reservations for 4, but showed up with 6 people. They were able to make some adjustments and seated us within minutes. The pizza was great as was the risotto, meatball appetizers. The dessert... my oh my... delicious flourless chocolate cake. We will be back!
Very good food done expertly. Wine list was excellent probably the best experience I’ve had in Berkeley besides Chez Panisse.
Pizza oven wasn’t working (sad) so we chose other items on the menu which were good to outstanding. Highly recommend the gnudi, little gems salad and the lamb shank.
Service was excellent and friendly. Only complaints are that it was very loud, and that was when the restaurant was not even full. Bad acoustics (design flaw) and a lot of noise coming from the kitchen. The other problem is with Open Table. We were unable to reserve anything between 5:15 and 8:00, but there were LOTS of tables available at 6 pm. What’s up with that? Our waitress suggested next time just call.
Great food and service, little difficult to find, sign is small and not well light, so use gps
Second time coming here. We will definitely be back. The pizza is perfect. The pasta is fresh. The service is attentive. The location is on the right side of the bridge to avoid all that traffic going into SF.
Exceptional food! Great space! Only downside was that it was on the noisy side. Definitely will return.😊
Creekwood is a nice looking restaurant and the booth we sat in was comfortable. Our server was excellent. The table clearing was a little over-zealous. Some of the food we had was terrific: a little gem salad, huge, varied ingredients, enough to split 3 ways!; and the grilled squid, same description. Those are what I would get if I went back. The pizzas were good, good crust, but the speck pizza I ordered said olives and artichokes and there was almost none of either, lots of speck, but little veg. The people I went with enjoyed their pasta a lot. The farro side dish was not well liked. The one problem with Creekwood is the noise level. By the end of the meal I felt kind of stunned by the noise and was more than ready to leave, though I liked everything else about the experience. Rattan or bamboo coverings for some of the walls, maybe? Or something to absorb sound. I'm on the fence about returning because of the noise level. Otherwise, it is a nice place with good food.
Fantastic food, great service! It was a little warm in the restaurant and the waitress we had was kind enough to bring me an ice water even though I didn’t think to ask for that. We cleaned all our plates and although we were full, we enjoyed dessert! A welcome addition to the neighborhood for sure.
food excellent - beet appetizer! lamb shank! risotto! Chocolate flourless cake a little dry, but good carmel ice cream. Not a lot of specifically vegan choices but they were happy to accomodate. wait staff very friendly and service excellent. Noisy but not that bad. Attractive interior. Would defiinitely go back.
Creekwood is a very nice local restaurant. The food is hearty and plentiful. The ambiance is nice, but quite noisy. Is it just me? Or do most people prefer to be able to talk across a table without yelling? My food review is based on only one visit, so you can take it with a grain of salt. The pasta dish was under-cooked and pasty, although the seasoning was very tasty. My side of Brussel sprouts was undercooked, although once again quite tasty. The restaurant philosophy is "al dente". But pasta should not be thick, doughy, and slightly grainy; and Brussel sprouts should not be raw in the middle. Ever tasted a raw Brussel sprout? It's bitter as heck. Did the chef actually taste these dishes? My wife and I are picky eaters, and we judge food harshly. We think that when you spend good money, every dish should be perfect. That was not the case at Creekwood. I would not, however, discourage people from trying it. You may have a different experience.
Absolutely delightful evening. Very friendly owner, rehab of old bike shop felt so comfortable, food was both beautiful and close to the best pasta et al ever. Nice crowd. Service perfect. Go.
The pizza was done really well. The crust was crisp but also packed with flavor.
I am a purist, this will have to say that the meatballs dish is not by my taste.
Three things why:
1. The size - they were way too small, 1 inch in diameter.
2. The seasoning - way too tasty which overpowered the rest of the spices.
3. Cooking style - By far the most important drawback. I will take a good guess here and say that the meatballs were fried, and then a small amount of tomato sauce was added in the cast iron pan, the meatballs on top and shave a bit of parmesan.
By the time they were brought to the table, the meatballs absorbed half of the sauce so it looked more like tomato puree , rather than a rich flavorful tomato sauce.
Also the young man kept elbowing me throughout the whole dinner while he was pouring water for the guests at the next table.
