Crave Fishbar Midtown is a vibrant, convivial restaurant in Manhattan serving an inspired seafood menu from chef Todd Mitgang. An eclectic mix of reclaimed materials and custom made chairs and tables lend a beachy, rustic feel to the space, which houses a 25-foot-long bar where guests can order from the full dinner menu along with cocktails and wine from a mounted bottle display. Journey up to the 2nd floor and watch an army of shuckers plating raw bar platters. Approachable, sophisticated dishes feature local seafood, crudos, and meat dishes that are thoughtfully prepared with both familiar and exotic ingredients. We live in the neighborhood and this was our first time. Food is very, very good. Staff accommodating. Menu is a little spicy which is not necessary with such great fresh fish but if you wish they will prepare simply grilled fish. Octopus, Barandi, tuna all excellent. A little noisy but fun. Upstairs apparently quieter but no elevator and someone in our group moderately handicapped .
Fabulous oysters with the perfect Riesling to start! The shrimp diavolo was over salted for both of our tastes, but that aside, the meal was perfection. I’d highly recommend both the tuna and the squid ink pasta entries. A toll house cookie and ice cream shouldn’t disappoint, and didn’t: a nice simple end to a great meal. Happy hour pricing on oysters cannot be beat. And the service was the perfect blend of highly attentive and unobtrusive. We’ll be back.
Oysters were delicious. I wanted to love this place, because I'm very supportive of sustainable seafood practices. However, our dinner meals were just okay. Nothing special. It was also extremely loud. You had to yell to be heard by your table mates. Service was mediocre at best with a snobby hostess. Go for happy hour oysters then go somewhere else for dinner.
I have been to Crave many times. It is a reliable place for good oysters. The Raw Bar has a nice selection. The Cauliflower Soup was excellent
It, along with the Kale Salad, made for a terrific meal. It was a bit noisy on this night... usually easier to hear. That was the only downside.
Cozy, comfortable, rustic-romantic atmosphere, friendly service, and very good seafood - we really enjoyed our Friday evening dinner, which started while “#Oystergram Happy Hour” was still going - great variety available & all just $1 each. They have limits on how many oysters various group sizes can order at once; tables of 1 or 2 can order up to a dozen at a time. The 2 of us had 2 dozen total; very well-shucked, clean & ready to slurp! After oysters we had appetizers (spicy prawns & grilled octopus - both excellent) and entrees of poached cod (terrific) & lobster curry with side of griddled rice. Taste of lobster dish was great but lobster was a bit over cooked (tough). Rice very good. Spicy chocolate sorbet for dessert was deeply rich, zippy, & delicious. Place was quite busy but ambiance is relaxed & we never felt rushed. Would happily return.
First time dining at Crave Fishbar. The food, cocktails, service and ambiance all great. Would have liked a few additional items like smoked mussels with the whale raw bar platter to provide a little more value at a reasonable cost. Overall, great experience.
My Boyfriend and I are BIG oyster lovers. We been just about everywhere for oysters. We highly recommend this spot because it's super cute and cozy. They have a great oyster menu and a super yummy green sauce that we never had before. The sauce blended really well with the oysters. It gave it a perfect kick in taste. You want some Great oysters and drinks .. this is the spot! Casual and chic !
This was a restaurant that was recommended to me from a customer here in DC. I had reservations prior to this for another place, but he insisted on Crave as being well above board. I didn't realize that he was low-balling it!
Crave was that place that left my girlfriend and I with a smile on our faces until our flight left LGA. I had the spicy squid ink pasta with shrimp and she had a tuna plate.
The spice was a home run! It was a shade under too much. The waitress had to take the bowl away from me before I started slirping out of the bowl. My girlfriend was simply in Heaven with her dish, in how simple and how fresh it was with a corn relish with just a hint of spice.
Good God, I can't wait to get back there!
We snuck in a reservation for 7:45 p.m. but traffic was better than we thought and we got there early. The hostess was able to get us a seat upstairs on the balcony which was absolutely gorgeous and quiet from all the noise inside. It was a little four table Oasis.
Our waiter was fabulous and very helpful with the menu. My wife ordered the 8 oysters and he got her two of each from different regions.
My only beef was that my filet although very tender had a little bit of the bitter grill char on the outside but overall with the vegetables it was very good.
Overall it was a great experience for dining out our second night in New York City.
