Crave Fishbar - Midtown Ratings and Reviews
I was disappointed in the food. It was average, at best, and under-seasoned. The lobster salad was a few pieces of lobster, unchopped, and a huge bowl of lettuce with some avocado at the bottom. Nearless tasteless. There are too many great restaurants in NYC for me to recommend this one after my experience.
We had a girls night out, starting with their Happy Hour oysters sampler and cocktails followed by dinner. The oysters were fresh and a bargain at $1 each. Our other favorites were the handmade squid ink and shrimp pasta - light, fresh and tasty, and the coconut creme brûlée. The miso glazed seabass was ok; the fish was fresh but the miso glaze was extremely salty so we scraped it off. Our server was excellent, water continuously refilled and we didn't feel rushed. Ambience was casual and relaxing and you can talk and be heard.
We are local and eat here about once a month. Food is excellent, particularly oysters. Really only two issues prevent 5 stars: VERY noisy, particularly upstairs, and bills are very high. Downstairs is a bit quieter, and if you can score one of the outdoor tables, you'll be fine (though that's not easy). We shared a dozen oysters, salad, poached cod entree and dessert with a total of 4 glasses of wine: $200 bill. Just too high.
probably the best oyster happy hour in the city - they don't nickel and dime you, all oysters are $1 between 5 and 7PM. the rest of the menu is strong, although not cheap. but to be expected of a place that transacts in high quality seafood. another excellent dinner, and will be back.
Great place for seafood!! Our server was fantastic and very knowledgeable about their product. The Octopus was amazing. The only downfall was the crab legs that came with the shark platter. Maybe it was a bad batch but I'd switch them out for more shrimp if I had the choice. Would definitely go again!!!!!!!!
They were flexible accommodating our early arrival. Our server was very friendly and attentive. There is a good variety of wines by the glass or bottle, some of the options quite interesting. Slightly overpriced but not too dramatic. Food was incredibly good, with the only exception of the oysters which were just OK. The portions are perhaps a bit smaller than we expected for the price. We shared a few things and the crab toasts and he grilled octopus were probably the best two items we tried. The place itself is small but comfortable, and the atmosphere is really nice. Would definitely return.
We were excited to visit after reading an article about the chef in the alumni magazine from UB. We were disappointed. The shrimp (cocktail) was overcooked and bland; the cocktail sauce didn't add anything to elevate the shrimp. The shrimp were served on salad that I couldn't understand why it was included. I had the cavatelli for my main and my husband had the cod. The portions were HUGE. The pasta was cooked well, however the sauce lacked depth. It just tasted like something was missing. My husband enjoyed his choice. The kitchen sent out a complimentary watermelon salad with our mains and it was highlight of the meal. The wine I had ordered to arrive with my main didn't arrive with the food and we had to remind the server, then it took a while to show up. Both the first and second floor areas were very noisy and the tables are close together making it difficult to carry on a conversation. The service was unrefined.
Another really good meal at Crave-- Whether we eat at the midtown or UWS location the food is always good and well prepared, the service is always just right, and the ambience is nice, not too loud, not too quiet. The heirloom tomato salad and burrata appetizers were both excellent, and the salmon was perfectly cooked.
