Beautiful setting, nice dishes, a bit pricey but maybe not out of line with nicer, smaller, midtown NY restaurants (four drinks, two apps, one split entrée and good tip was $130). Bartender was friendly but not super attentive; we missed her the first time and couldn't get her back for more than 10 minutes at a relatively quiet (but very long) bar. Waitress was nice but not overly helpful with guidance on the menu. I had the autumn salad which wasn't particularly interesting or flavorful -- basically fancy coleslaw. My companion had the crab tostadas which were great, as was the curry lobster that we split. Would definitely return.
Love the brunch here. Great food and coffee. I wish the portions were a little bigger. Eggs come with one small piece of bread- could really use another piece.
I was told that this was a good place for fish and it was. The seared tuna was great! My husband loved his salmon. My daughter requested the tuna with none of the sauce that was listed in the menu. The waiter suggested ""simple fish" and it was that. The tuna was perfect. We also ordered the roasted brussel spouts, they were also really good. If you want a casual place in the neighborhood, great food - this is it!!!
My husband and I ate here on 11/19/16. We were there during happy hour. The food was phenomenal. There were 15 different oysters on the $1 happy hour menu. Tried all of them and they did not disappoint. Also had the crab tostada. Our entrees were the swordfish, the best I have ever had, and the barramundi, also very good. Cocktails as well as dessert rounded out a perfect evening of food.
Although we enjoyed the food very much, our server Norah, made this an evening to remember. Service can often be hit or miss. Norah is a gem, and made this trip to Crave an experience we hope to repeat.
The main entree and the drinks were excellent. I got the salmon with white beans. However I ordered a side of garlic rice and it wasn't that good. It seemed like it was starting to burn at the bottom. Overall, I had a wonderful experience. I would definitely go back again.
These guys know how to deepfry! No raw oysters though
A small but very nice place to eat delicious fish and seafood. Food, ambience, service was fantastic - the only thing that could be improved is the temperature in the restaurant. The AC was running, so it was pretty cold inside.
The oyster happy hour selection and quality were phenomenal. The special crab tostada was 4 small round corn chips - like 4 individual Tostitos - with some shredded lettuce on each one, really no flavor. Where was the crab? For $16?! Otherwise it was very good, but we could have gotten a whole bag of Tostitos for the price of one of those chips!
Outstanding service, great wine, great food. Highly recommend.
Really enjoyed the lobster curry and the tequila cocktail that was just the perfect amount of spice. It did take us a while to get our drinks each time we ordered a round, but the food came out in the right amount of time. A little bit expensive for what you actually get, but everything tasted delicious.
forget this place
FOOD IS NOT RECOGNIZABLE.
WAY TO COSTLY FOR WHAT YOU GET.
What was that lobster dish? My piece of fish was soooooo samll I almost missed it.
Three people got the swordfish. had better for less many times.
Great oyster selection and nice wine list - the fish is, no surprise, excellent, and our server was very good, both times we have eaten there. This is a place we will continue to return to.
We truly enjoyed our dinner and the raw bar was incredible and compared to our experience the following nite, we wished we were back @ Crave. We will be back with our next trip to NYC.
Food and Service were great. Upstairs IMPOSSIBLE to hear, however - there are three owners reportedly - and not one of them apparently knows Simply to install sound cushioning on the four hard flat wall/ceiling/floor surfaces (one is brick!). Cacophonous nightmare.
We had to sit (in cold)outside on the beautiful balcony for an otherwise wonderful dinner and civilized conversation.
The ambiance is casual/rustic, but the food is absolutely top notch. White shrimp ceviche was outstanding, as was the Barramundi with pomegranate gremolata served over a thick cut roast cauliflower. Great ingredients, creative kitchen. Lots of gluten free options too. Good cocktails.
We booked our reservation for Friday night at 8:15 but half of us were running late so we sat down and waited for our friends at our table without any complaint from the staff, which was a pleasant surprise. We ordered drinks which were great and a ton of oysters (all super fresh and delicious). The mains were pretty good as well, but the highlight were certainly the large selection of oysters and the nice atmosphere. And they did a little birthday celebration for my birthday!
We LOVED this place! Food was so in refibly fresh and atmosphere really fun! Our waitress was just fantastic!
Lovely decor, great staff
A bit of an issue giving us a booth, then sat several other couples in booths?
Clams & Oysters great
Other dishes equally well done
really tasty, great service, and a perfect balance of special-but-not-stuffy.
I've had much better experiences at Crave Midtown in the past. The last two times the service has been lacking. Glasses and utensils have been missing. Not sure whether it was due to a high volume of diners or simply because they hired a very unprofessional staff.
The oysters selections and price are fabulous for happy hour.
The regular menu and wine by the glass prices are reflection of midtown NYC prices.
Service was so so, not professional or great. Waitress never refilled my water or offered ice for water.
I was searching for a restaurant not far from the UN, so I gave Crave a try. The space is typical for Manhattan--very small and narrow with everything wedged in as tightly as possible. The place was packed driving an elevated noise level. Since I was by myself, I was seated at the bar. I realize the need to maximize revenue, but one less chair would have made a world of difference. I was elbow to elbow with my neighbors. At first, I was a bit uncomfortable since I appeared to be about 20 years older than everyone else there, including staff. (I'll be 58 in a couple of weeks, btw). However, Christian, the bartender, was very friendly and made me feel at home. Despite the fact that things were busy, we had a fair amount of time to chat. I ordered the porgy poke as an appetizer and tuna au poivre as an entree. The poke was flavorful, colorful, and offered a variety of textures. Even allowing for the use of porgy instead of salmon, the dish tried too hard to be Hawaiian. Adding mac nuts to the recipe doesn't make it so. The tuna was enjoyable thanks to a snappy au poivre sauce but the fish itself was a bit overdone. I felt portion size was skimpy for the price. Crave is not cheap--everything came to $100 just for me. By comparison, I dined at an upscale sushi restaurant the following evening just a few blocks away. The tab was the same, but it was for two. There are too many other great restaurants in Manhattan that offer better value to go back to Crave.
Food is fresh and tasty, really good service, i just wish the level of noise could be a little lower
Always enjoy Crave. We love the oyster happy hour. Best presentation of great oysters in NYC. Service was wonderful.
#oysterhappyhour is divine! Large selection of oysters, east and west coast. I come here very often. Service, cocktails, and atmosphere are enthusiastic! Must try!
Excellent seafood meal. Had the seafood tasting plate with crab claws, oysters, clams....all terrific.
We had the Faroe Island Salmon and the Schnapper which were both excellent.
Very fresh fish and good service. Particularly enjoyed the seared tuna entrée.
I love the oyster happy hour!!!!
Upstairs loud and very slow service. Shame because the fish was excellent ( we had the Tuna and Salmon)
Oyster HR is phenomenal with many options for $1 each. Food was good - everyone was satisfied with their meals. Lobster curry was good, not great. Drinks were tasty, particularly the caipirinhas, but very slow to come out. Maybe they were understaffed, as the service in general was pretty slow. Pumpkin pie was a big hit. Not sure if I'll be back for dinner, but will definitely return for happy hour oysters and drinks.
Really loud! People at table next to us got up and left because if it'
Love this place! Food is good and all of the staff is friendly
Always a great pick! Fantastic fried oysters! Very fresh and well done seafood dishes.
Slow to greet us at the table
Oysters were ok with sauces pretty standard
Seared yellowfin tuna tasteless over sort of a creamed kale not a good dish my friends salmon was so-so agsin flavorless
The acoutics are terrible my friend finally had to stand next to me to talk so we could hear each other
It's weird because the Crave on the UWS was really good
Fantastic seafood, consistent service, staff with great attitude, and if you catch the oyster happy hour 5-7pm, it's an unbeatable value, hands down. I make it my business to stop by there any time I get off work in time.
We are local and this is on our list of favorites. Fresh seafood, creative preparations, friendly service. Squid ink pasta is a stand-out. Can be a bit cramped, and the upstairs can get noisy. We prefer downstairs in the back, or the bar high tops.
Went for oyster happy hour. Nice selection and good cocktails. A bit noisy for sit down dinner.
The food was fresh and beautiful! the staff was very nice, helpful and knowledgeable !
Best HH oysters in town!
Terrific food and consistently a great choice for lunch, lobster salad was amazing
