Wonderful / safe outdoor dining experience … excellent food and grand service.

Amazing food, caring staff, great value for the price

A truly terrific culinary experience. We enjoyed the omakase meal with wine and sake pairings. Creative, inventive, and delicious dishes were highlighted by stunning plating and composition. This was a special dinner with my fiancé the night before we got married and we were so well taken care of. The patio dining was comfortable with plentiful heaters and blankets, which made for a great COVID-safe experience. We are so glad to have made Cranes a special place for us with this milestone meal and look forward to coming back for years to come!

Despite the no indoor dining order related to COVID, our experience at Cranes was exceptional. A warm, friendly greeting was followed by showing us to our outdoor table - compete with fire pit and on-table mini fire pit. The menu was small but sounded exceptional - a mix of tapas, appetisers and entrees, with an optional tasting menu. The short wine list, also very good, included a sake equivalent for each style (fizzy, dry white, bold red etc).
We shared the tempura shrimp & squid and beef bao bun tapas as appetisers then had the rabbit and wagu beef entrees. We finished by sharing the churros desert. Everything was excellent. The service was always attentive and friendly, but not overbearing.
All in all, a superb meal with a really interesting twist - I’ve never seen this particular fusion food done before. We will be going back.

Everything we ordered at cranes was out of this world. The mushroom soup. And OMG the mushroom rice. Please don’t ever take it off the menu!!! Our entire meal was phenomenal. The menu was small and perfect, easy wine and sake descriptions, too. The churros melt in your mouth. Bravo.

Crane’s has quickly become a favorite of ours. The entire dining experience is wonderful from the ambiance, the cocktails and food. We brought friends last night and they raced about it too. I’m so glad we got to have one last indoor dinner at Crane’s before another shutdown of indoor dining, but we’ll keep supporting them with their outdoor seating.

We were a party of three on Sunday night . Our experience was amazing ! We were outside under a covered area with fire pits and table top warmers. It was 50 degrees but we were warm without coats most of the time . We did the chefs tasting . Our hostess was our server and she was amazing . Such service and attentiveness . The courses were spread out so perfectly without large gaps . The presentation was beautiful almost unreal . The tastes were like magic . The chef Pepe came out to talk . Go there if you can to support this delicious place .

Greeted kindly and informed of the steps they were taking to prevent the spread of Covid. Service was spot on and the tapas style menu was so delicious! Was a great experience!

Even the finest dining can become routine. But this is extraordinary. Bravo.

It’s the fourth time I have been there and the food and the service gets better every time. One of the best restaurants in DC.

After many fantastic meals in DC I think this may take the cake as the best. The omakase was technically and creatively wonderful. The outdoor seating was warm and well spaced out. Great go to for a special occasion.

We can’t recommend Cranes highly enough! 10/5 stars! It was the best meal, service, cocktails, and experience we’ve had in a really long time and can’t wait to return. We did the chefs 10 course special and every course was incredible in flavor, presentation, and unique approach. Make Cranes your next dinner out and you will not regret it!!

So pleased with my experience. The omakase is a must-try. Every course was excellent, and the drink pairing took it to a new level.

Food was good. Table top heaters were okay. Service was okay.

Crane’s is overall a fantastic restaurant experience and clearly nothing was left to chance. It is absolutely beautiful in decor and ambiance which makes it a wonderfully pleasant space for dining. We went for the first time this past Friday night and loved every dish and drink without question. The cocktails were amazing and beautifully crafted. We ordered many of the tapas dishes and the waygu beef and shrimp entrees. Each dish was carefully and artfully prepared and presented. And then we could not pass up the specialty churros. Just impeccable flavors all around. We enjoyed our experience so much that we went the next afternoon for a cocktail and tapas! I’d say we have a new favorite spot in DC!

The daily fish was very fresh and was cooked perfectly. The shank was good but enjoyed the endive even more. The mushroom croquettes were really good.

This was our first time at Cranes. We were so impressed! My companion and I both got the Omakase menu. It was beautifully prepared and presented exquisitely presented. Our server Gabrielle was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and the cuisine. The chef visited our table and allowed for our meatless diet! Every detail down to the beautiful tea cookies presented in the wooden box were superb!

Even though we were "on the street" it's a quiet side street and the tents and fire pits make it very welcoming. The food and service was amazing. Can't wait to go back and try out indoors!

Great as usual - their new outdoor patio is really cute too actually. Lots of fire features so should be good through the chillier nights.

The food was beautifully presented, drinks were good, and the server was very friendly and explained each dish. Omakase is the way to go, and it was actually filling without feeling too stuffed. Interior looks lovely but unfortunately with Covid that will have to wait to enjoy. They have an outdoor space, which is on the side street, but they did a great job creating ambience with greenery, lights, fire pits, etc., and spaced the tables apart. Look forward to going back.

Best restaurant in DC. Incredible textures and flavors. High recommend for anyone for anything from a casual lunch to a special occasion.

Omakase menu was fantastic! Would definitely recommend for any sort of celebration. Not only was the food great but the restaurants environment was felt safe during COVID.

Amazing restaurant! Great chef and everyone is super kind! You always feel at home ☺️ also, the distance between tables is safe and everyone complies with the social distance measures. Nice terrace outside with heating available. Would recommend 150%!!!

This place is amazing. Took my husband there for his birthday on a Monday night so was not crowded at all, we got a seat by the window which was great for people watching and did the omakase menu. I wish I could remember our waitress's name, she was wonderful, as was the bartender whose name I also forget, probably because they kept brining us really delicious drinks. Food and beverage pairings were amazing, from hamachi to beef tongue and mushroom that tasted like chicken in a way. Highly recommend this spot!

The food, service and the overall experience was phenomenal

Absolutely amazing. Got the weekend lunch bento box and a couple other items (including fish of the day)—my boyfriend and I were blown away by the presentation of dishes, amazing interplay between flavors, and just top notch assortment of foods. Drinks were delicious as well. Highly recommend for friends or couples—it’s an amazing experience and I was highly impressed (and I’ve eaten at Per Se and Eleven Madison).

Finest of fine dining. Art on a plate. Interesting, creative menu. I had 5 tapas and dessert. The varied tastes, textures, colors, and concepts were all 5*. I am a foody who dines out a fair amount, even in Covid world, when precautions are in place. Crane's followed all recommended practices, and I felt entirely comfortable there. The space is also lovely, high ceilings and windows, beautiful place settings. Service was spot-on and friendly/low key. Literally, Cran'es served the best meal I've had in recent memory, including Europe when we could still go.
