We were a table of 4 - shared a few small plates prior to going to the theatre. Enjoyed the pork stack, the wings and the bone marrow (although some were a bit undercooked and cold). The chicken livers were crispy due to the batter (that was disappointing - thought they would be unbuttered and crispy). The snails were also disappointing, I prefer them in a garlic butter rather than the fennel sauce this came in.
Delicious dinner! Fabulous service! Great atmosphere!! Will definitely come again soon.
The pork shank and chicken breast were excellent as was the service and the flourless chocolate torte.
We had a lovely meal and enjoyed everything we ate. The location is great when going to see a show at Playhouse Square. The valet is convenient also, you can valet park your car for only $10 if you spend at least $30 at the restaurant. Overall was a great time.
Came in for Valentine’s Day. I had the ribeye steak feature and my girlfriend had the trout. The steak was cooked perfectly and the lemon caper sauce on the trout was very tasty. Nice reasonably priced wine list and the server and bussers were on point. All in all, had a wonderful time. We will definitely come back again.
Went there with wife for Valentine's Day before a Playhouse Square show. Had a very good experience, good food, good service. Will recommend.
My wife had the spaghetti squash and I had the cod. Both dishes had expertly layered flavors and textures. The ingredinets were fresh complimentary.
This was our first visit to Cowell & Hubbard. We were attending a show at Playhouse Square. A relative recommended this restaurant. We were very pleased with the dining experience. The food was very good and the service was great. Everyone was very accommodating and got us out in plenty of time for the show. We would definitely recommend.
My wife and I enjoy Cowell & Hubbard. It's our go-to-restaurant when we come Cleveland for a touring Broadway show. Wine list is extensive and I always find something new to try and am always pleased. I had the trout and it was excellent. My wife had the duck, which she found over cooked (I tried it and it was over cooked). First time we ever didn't like a dinner.
One last item of note, the restaurant is noisy, even though parts of the place are carpeted. Not sure what could be done about that.
Overall a good restaurant.
An excellent restaurant. The menu modifies frequently but is always good. I had crispy chicken livers, though they were not as crispy as last time that I had them here. Friends had terrific cod, mussels, and soup. Pinot Noir needed to be decanted, and needed more time to air than it was given, but when finally aired, was excellent.
Bar service friendly and accommodating. Staff seems really to enjoy being there. The owner is always friendly and accessible.
Food and menu are lacking something spectacular
Incredible service and excellent food. My husband and I were there before a performance in the theater next door and we were amazed at how attentive and fast we were served. The food and cocktails were great!
Enjoyed a wonderful meal before show at playhouse.
There was a prize fixe menu offered that weekend. It was delicious and we opted for for our server to pair some wines. He did a fabulous job and was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the wine and menu options. Great job Casey !We will definitely be back. Great location for dining before or after a performance
This was our second visit here. Our first visit was a few years ago and it didn't impress. However I am so glad we gave it a second try. The service was very friendly-thanks to our attentive but not hovering waite,r Casey. The food was delicious as well. I had the Beef Bourguignon and it was tender and tasty ( altho a few of the root vegetables were on the al dente side). My husband had the Pork shank and it was a hit all the way around. My mother had the Salmon and she said she would order this again.
We will visit again!
Wife ordered well done salmon, it came back raw in the midle and took 2 more attempts to satisfy the order.
What are unique restaurant with phenomenal choices. I had a soul that was wrapped around smoked salmon, my wife had a shrimp penne with the pistachio sauce it was amazing. The corn chowder itself was unique. The dessert was in sane. It was just a fantastic evening out and we will certainly be back. Perfect place to go before a show. Thanks very much
A great spot to go for date night or Pre/Post theatre show! Staff is great about asking the reason for dining and works with you to get you to your show on time. The Pork Shank was absolutely outstanding. We ended with the PB&J Creme Brûlée and I think it is my new favorite dessert.
Overall, this was a good dining experience. One thing that struck me was how YOUNG the staff was! Everyone looked to be a teenager/very young adult. I would swear that our server was around 17! And, he was very nervous (obviously new). But, he and the rest of the staff did a good job. The food was delicious, and the timing of the courses was spot on. (Meaning, they gave us plenty of time to finish our appetizers before bringing out the main course.) We would go back more often if we lived in Cleveland!
Menu had a variety but it was difficult to find something that we would like.
The service wasn’t great. We told our server that we had tickets to a show and for about 15 minutes she disappeared.
I've dined here for the last time. This makes four times in a row in the last six months where our entrees were inedible. My date and I reasoned that we would get their burger - "Surely they can't screw up a burger, right?"
They can and they did. "Medium" and "Medium Well" came back super-rare. And with tickets to a performance and cheese and carnelized onions on top, you can't put that back on the grille - if you are in a trusting mood.
On our last visit, our server rushed away and returned with a card with the owner's son's cell number; "Zak's not involved any more. His son is running everything. It will mean more if you call and tell him your experience than if we tell him again." I left a message. No reply. Playhouse Square dies NOT have a decent restaurant. You must eat elsewhere before the show. At least they comped us our meals.
Everything was very good. I had the Gnudi. It was boring. My friend had the escargot, they were excellent. My other guest had the lamb ribs she loved them. We were theater people so not looking for big meals. Love all of Zacs restaurants
Staff was friendly and got us in and out before our show started.
Great place to go before a show at playhouse square.
Had tickets to show . Great service and got us with plenty of time for show
Attended because it was a Playhouse night in addition to 3 for $33. Food & service has always been good. Do not go here regularly on Playhouse ticket nights because we do not care for the lay out with the closeness of the tables, noise level, and decor .
We all enjoyed our entrees:2 w/cod, 2w/chicken breast and 1 w/salmon.
The bread was good, the service was excellent and the price commensurate
for an upscale downtown restaurant. The flourless chocolate torte was also
Sat in the Bar area, not the greatest location. Will request the dining area next time. Will definitely go back, Salmon and Trout were great.
The food was not up to our expectations, however, the service was very good. The valet parking was awkward in that we were required to pay a "deposit," a portion of which was refunded upon leaving. Our guests, who also valeted, were unable to receive a refund.
The menu is rather eclectic and innovative. We had a enjoyable time.
Lamb shoulder was delicious. Would definitely get it again. My wife's blackened salmon was also excellent. Our sever, Dylan, was extremely helpful with drink and dinner suggestions.
