C&H is consistently a reliable place for pre-show dinner. The menu is diverse and interesting, servers are efficient, and the dining room in appealing.
Four us ate here prior to a show at Playhouse Square. Service was friendly and expedient, food was very good and the drinks were great. I would definitely recommend it!
My husband and I enjoyed our date night. Service was quick and professional. The sommelier is very knowledgeable. We enjoyed a variety of small plates and dessert. If you're there during a show, you will experience a quiet, laid-back atmosphere. If you're there before a show, let them know if you're NOT in a hurry, or you might get all of your courses at once!
Delicious food and speedy service. We frequently eat there before a show, but the food is so good, we both said we need to go there more often.
We had dinner for a show and this was a great location to the theater and a great experience. Try the blackened salmon ... it was amazing!
Everything was great. The food was good, and the service was great! We will be back next time we are in Cleveland!
We had tickets to a performance at Cleveland Dance. So we brought our friends who had never been to Cowell & Hubbard. They loved the food, service and location! It was a great start to a fun evening. We will definitely be back! Thanks.
The food was delicious, as always. The atmosphere is fun and trendy and the wait staff is professional and accommodating.
Terrific place with great variety of options.
Attentive servers. Love calling Atlantic Puffer-Toadfish by its more palatable name Sea Squab kind of like calling Chum Salmon Keto or silverbright! Ah marketing with that said we love distinct choices like the Cobia. The chicken liver small plate was one of the best plates I have enjoyed over the years. The Relleno was OK suspect I wanted the Mexican cheese not available in Vegan choices. I have recommended already to others.
Our fabulous experience at C&H was the cap to a thrilling afternoon at "Rent," including Broadway Buzz the hour before the show.
We were so lucky to have Chris as our waiter. Very knowledgeable about everything on the menu. Personable, with just the right amount of checking that we were happy. Great sense of humor and fun with a bit of extra talk at the end. He even personally wrapped my leftovers even though one of the other servers offered to do it.
My husband Eric settled for a nice IPA but I went for the amazing Old Fashioned. I wisely sipped it slowly so I could still read the menu and enjoy my food! I was glad that Eric was driving home to Akron instead of me.
Eric ordered the pulled pork pizza, and allowed me a small piece. Very very good. He is a bit of a bbq sauce snob, but he could not figure out which bottled sauce was on the pizza. Very impressed that it was house made.
I got the duck entree and I was moaning with delight from the first bite. "I'll have what she is having!" I gave Eric a few tastes of the duck leg I was devouring, but managed to save the other leg plus some of the veggies for that take-home box. We are having it for dinner tonight! It will be the highlight of our leftover smorgasbord.
Can't forget the wonderful bread. Had to ask the lady who brought it for oil and then pepper to add a bit of zip. But at least they brought plates. Can't believe some restaurants do not bring them with the bread.
Food and service is exceptional. Nice atmosphere. Highly recommend for before theatre and special occasions .
My boyfriend and I came here before seeing a show. The food was absolutely amazing. We both agreed that the mashed potatoes were by far the best we had ever tasted. Service was fantastic - our waitress was so friendly and attentive, the manager stopped by and checked in with us, our food arrived in a timely manner. We will definitely be back here for another date night!
This place has the best cocktail 's and delicious food. The salmon dish was so tasty!! Service was quick as we were heading to a play. Staff very attentive.
Wanted to get the three course prefix meal but after we sat at our table for 15-20 minutes before waiter came over she made it very clear we could not get the prefix since we had a show to get catch . The last time we dined at this restaurant the waiter went above and beyond to ensure we could order want we wanted and get us out in time me to catch the show.
Great experience, consistent with past visits. The only complaint I have is that happy hour is served only for patrons sitting at the bar; it is not open to the whole bar which is poor customer service. Outside of that, kudos to good food, service and convenience to playhousesquare.
Seems like it is not as good as it was a few years ago. Restaurant week menu just so so. Noise was awful. Would like different menu choices.
Lovely food and good service. We were in before the theater.
Again, a wonderful experience pre theatre. My friend had the cod which was beautifully prepared and presented. I had chicken bread in a soy brine, what wonderful tastes. Service was timely despite the restaurant being quite busy. Never disappointing.
We ate here prior to seeing a show at Playhouse Square. The location and service were good. The food was a bit disappointing. We ordered the chicken dish from the restaurant week menu and it was not cooked properly, resulting in a rubbery texture. The mussels were average because the pomme frites were not prepared freshly for my order, as they were cool and a little greasy. Our bill was expensive for the quality of food we had. I did expect more from a Bruell restaurant.
Went to a play after. Really enjoyed the trout. Our server Jordan was great! Polite and knowledgeable. Also Casey was very accommodating. We have a gift certificate to use in the future which is for food and wine pairings which Casey said to call in to make that reservation for. We are so looking forward to it!
Four of us go to dinner before theater ...and we always come back to Cowell & Hubbard!
We enjoyed the salmon, pork shank and chicken breast. The food was very good. The potatoes with the chicken were over cooked but replacements were brought out quickly and they were very tasty. We had great service and were able to make the Broadway Buzz without any problemm
One of our favorite restaurants and a must stop in the theatre district.
I hadn't been in awhile and thought this would be a nice change of pace...we were going to the show which we told our server... Our orders got a bit messed up and then my friend who had ordered a pizza - they delivered it burned. Kudos to the manager who immediately noticed and removed it from the bill! Still because things ad taken so long there wasn't time to make another one... We ended up being a bit late for the show because it took so long to get our bill. Would go back but probably not on a night that I was going to theater...
Wonderful food and service on a quiet Sunday night. We enjoyed it so much and plan to return.
I have been to C&H a couple of time and each time it was exceptional. This time we dined on a Sunday and am not sure what exactly happened. My party consisted of 3 and each of us ordered an appetizer of which were not very appetizing, the cauliflower that came with the Chicken Spring Rolls seemed to have been over pickled and the Goat Cheese Gnudi was dry and bland. All of us ordered hamburgers which took a very long time to arrive. The hamburgers came with pomme frites which were severely over cooked and the buns for the burgers were burnt. Lastly, a fight broke out in the kitchen between the staff in which my mother had a front row seat. Due to a time constraint (show) we chose not complain and chalked it up to an off night for C&H.
As always, we had a wonderful dinner before a show at Playhouse Square. The service is always great - they know how to keep things running smoothly so you make your show on time. Food was fantastic, I ate from the restaurant week menu. The salad was delicious and my Cod and risotto were perfect. We had a table across from the open kitchen which is always fun to watch.
Trendy restaurant right in the heart of playhouse square. We were a little nervous bc it seemed pretty quiet and empty for a Saturday night. However our service was excellent and the food actually blew us away. The wings and meatball appetizers were delicious and both of our entrees were so tasty! We loved our date night and hope that more people continue to dine here because it is a real Cleveland gem!
This is the place to go before a show. They totally cater to the show crowd and ensure you will make it on time. Book a 5:30 reservation to make a 7:30 show!
We made 5pm dinner reservations after our viewing of Rent at Playhouse Square. I was immediately impressed with Cowell & Hubbard. They had prompt and friendly valet and staff. We were seated right away and greeted warmly by our server. He took time to review the menu and always was one step ahead of our needs. The three course dinner option was a fantastic deal for the quality of the dishes. The food, champagne, and desserts were superb! Kudos to the chef! The ambiance is romantic and cozy. It also had a bar with sports on the TV’s. The restaurant was filled up, but that didn’t interfere with our table conversation. I left feeling amazed and impressed. I can’t wait to start planning my next date night at Cowell & Hubbard.
The server Jose was excellent and the food was spot on! We split 3 items, the kitchen split them on separate plates and they were brought out perfectly timed!!
we had a lovely pre theatre meal.
our party of 3 two ordered from the restaurant week menu and one had regular menu item. It was delicious from salad to dessert. Nice server who had a lot of energy. Also appreciated the manager circling through a few times to ask how things were and to be sure we were on schedule for theatre. Good attention to detail. strongly recommend.
Wonderful evening! Always a class act and willing to accommodate groups
Great place for dinner before a show at Playhouse Square. Makes the evening more special. Creative dishes, excellent wine list, attentive staff.
We had dinner before the theater. Service was excellent. Very conscious of curtain time. Super convenient. Good selections. Entrees are generous. Pizzas are good but smallish. Great place for dinner before a show.
Peanut butter and jelly creme brulee was to die for.
We had our dinner before a show. Considering the location, the kitchen would be used to getting a theatre crowd in and out. The timing was off throughout the meal. Appetizer came out first, Goat Cheese Gnudi...it was very good. Then my wife's salad course of the Prix Fixe menu came out in the middle of the appetizer. It should have come with my first course. The salad was soggy, so it sat too long already dressed. Entrees were Good, however my salmon came out hot, and my wife's was luke warm and haricot verts were cold. She received a hot plate quickly upon us returning hers.
Dessert was good.
Could have been an off night, so I would give them another chance if the opportunity presented itself.
Pre-Steve Winwood show meal and service were outstanding. Kudos to our server for understanding our time constraints and for splitting our entree with no charge. Zack was there hovering and I'm sure he would be proud. p.s. Winwood was incredible!
Bad evening all around. Noisy, food under cooked and the service was horrible. The manager cleared everything off of our table including the silverware because we sitting there for so long. My wife explained to him that we only had appetizers and we were still waiting for our dinners. Everyone else around us that were sat way after us had completed their apps and meals. We didn't have time for the desert we ordered. No offer to box it. No apologies or adjustments on our check. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Expensive meal for nothing.
