The squash salad was truly inspired. Shaved squash on frisee with goat cheese and pasta -- unexpected, imaginative and delicious. The same is true of the vegan ice cream sandwich, which needs a more appealing name. It was served with a coconut milk condiment, which isn't needed. The pizza with chicken/mushroom confit was less successful, a bit bland. We enjoyed very attentive service.

Cowell and Hubbard is my favorite restaurant for dinner after a show at Playhouse Square. The menu has a lot of interesting items from appetizers to entrees to desserts. If you're vegan or vegetarian, you will absolutely find a delicious choice. The servers are always friendly, polite, and timely.

Enjoyed dinner before theatre. Service was wonderful - bread however, could have been served warm. It was actually cold. Appetizer was wonderful as were our entrees. Thank you.

We were there for a pre-theater dinner, as well as discussing plans for the upcoming year. I love this place because the noise levels are fairly subdued, so it’s a great place to have a conversation over dinner. Juliann, our server did an excellent job, especially catering to some special requests I had. we have been here before. We will return again!

Waiter was well-trained and helpful in answering questions about the menu and options. Were seated promtly. Dishes were brought speedily and were tasty. Would like another salad choice added to the menu which better compliments the small plates. Desert choices were not appealing. A very good restaurant to complete an evening of dining and the theater. There are only 3 good restaurants in Play house square and this is one of them. We will happily return again.

I come to this restaurant and rave to my friends about it. I took my new friends to join me and I was very disappointed in the service. It was the first time I had to ask for bread. They were busy and I made my reservations awhile a go and I was put by the door and it was very cold. I usually get the Salted Carmel meringue and I rave about it. This time there was a very small amount of ice cream to the ratio of the meringue and it was too sweet because of the lack of ice cream I think. It didn't taste like it normally does.

We eat at Cowell & Hubbard regularly when we go to the theater. Good service that caters to the theater crowd. And actually, the food was better this last time than we've had in the past. Not that their food has ever been bad, but pretty salty. This time...not as much. So, yay!

We also appreciate the valet service.

The atmosphere is very open, not very cozy & was a bit cold. I would suggest finding ways to making tables more intimate for such a large open space. I did however, enjoy the background music. The menu had traditional items with a creative twist. Salmon and ribeye were good. Portion sizes were a bit small for the price and they’re served a la carte. Appetizers were very good- we had meatballs and scallops but the scallops were a bit undercooked & cold. We had to ask for bread that should have come anyway. The hostess & our server were very nice and accommodating nonetheless. They only had one valet that we had to wait for what seemed liked forever but all in all it was a decent dining experience. It’s possible we got a few snags due to being New Year’s Eve. I would try Simon & Cowell again on another night.

The soup was so salty it only tasted good when used as a dip for the bread. I ordered my steak medium and it was delivered rare. It was a good cut of meat so I ate 1/2 of it anyway but I enjoyed the 2nd 1/2 much better the next day when I cooked it as I like. The plating was very odd. Mashed potatoes and asparagus were laid on the plate and then the steak was just dumped on top. This made it difficult to cut the steak without smooshing potatoes off the plate or having the steak roll around on the asparagus spears. The dessert was supposed to have almond cookies which were unrecognizable as such along with ice cream which seemed more like a meringue than an ice cream. If I'd paid $100 for a dinner for 4, the value would have been acceptable. A $400 bill for this meal was really not acceptable.

Overall good food (couple cold bites of pork), almost overly attentive wait staff, and fairly close seating to other patrons which is a little awkward. Waiter was friendly but seemed inexperienced. Spring rolls were solid. Squash salad was good but had a tad too much dressing for our taste (still delicious).

Delicious potato and rosemary soup, followed by a properly cooked cod filet in a medium spicy thai curry sauce. Definitely worth the drive and 'fit for foodies'. This is a destination that should be on the lists of Clevelanders [and visitors] who appreciate good food and good service.

We went before a show to have dinner and were blown away by the amazing service and delicious food! I suffer from a great many food allergies and they were super accommodating. They had fresh baked bread, made in house, and grilled up some gluten free bread for me. My mother had the tomato soup and said it was the best tomato soup of her life. My cod was soft, fluffy, and perfectly cooked and accompanied by perfectly cooked vegetables. They have many gluten free and vegan/vegetarian options! The staff was very attentive, constantly refilling water, tidying up the table, and checking in on us. I'm not sure if we got so much attention because of my allergies, or if that is how everyone is treated, but it may be one of my new favorite Cleveland restaurants!

I had reservations prior to a 6:30 pm play at the Palace Theater where we are season ticket holders. We arrived on time to a half full restaurant and the hostess tried to seat us in an incredibly cramped and occupied space. We politely refused the table (I’m 6’5 and wanted to breathe) and they took us to table #2 which was just “out in space” in the middle of the busy floor. Once again we refused and took a space in the bar area. The ambiance is terrible. It is a cavernous restaurant with no privacy and a bad table layout. The restrooms are incredibly small for having such a large, unused space within the restaurant. I would ONLY recommend this place for a quick drink at the bar, however would caution that it’s pricey. Paid $14 for a “measured” glass of Chardonnay which is piracy. The bar staff is awesome, which is the only saving grace. I rarely write a poor review, but this was a disappointing experience.

My wife and I were attending a play and decided on Cowell and Hubbard for a pre play dinner.
I was very much looking forward to and excellent meal but, sadly we were very disappointed in the food we ordered.
I cannot say enough about the staff and service, it was excellent. Everyone was very attentive to our needs.
I ordered a bone marrow appetizer and chili rellano entree. The bone marrow came out raw, and my chili rellano was not very tasty. The pepper was not cooked enough and the breading was over cooked. My wife had a mussel appetizer, which was ok and a Brussel sprout salad. The salad was small and had way too many jalapeños.
The staff removed the bone marrow from our bill, which was appreciated.
I usually don’t post negative reviews but I think management would want to know about the product that is being served.

We arrived early and decided to set at the bar before moving to our table. After visiting with the bartenders, we decided to stay at the bar to eat our dinner and it was awesome. Great food, great service, great atmosphere, and great interaction with the bartenders. It was a very nice evening and we will return, should our schedule allows.

Quinoa crusted trout was as promised in many reviews -- excellent. mushroom bisque was even better. wine list is impressive, including wines by the glass.

I asked for a table appropriate to a dining companion with slightly impaired hearing -- and then showed up late due to traffic! The table was perfect, and we were seated on entry. I had called when I knew when we would be late for the reservation.

First class operation.

Our waiter person was busy, and we had to ask twice for bread. No big deal, but noticeable.

everyone with whom we had contact was pleasant...down to earth. no artificial niceness...no airs, no attempt to be 'sophisticated."

Nice place and I plan to visit again.

Cowell & Hubbard is our favorite restaurant to visit before we see a show at Playhouse Square. We give ourselves plenty of time to enjoy being together and having a great meal. The drink menu is another plus with the staff taking part in creating new, inventive and delicious cocktails! Great job Casey on our latest favorite cocktail "Ginger Blossom". It's a winner! Oh, and the Grilled Strip Steak with mashed Yukon gold potatoes, wilted spinach and Cabernet sauce!
