Cowell & Hubbard
We had dinner with my daughter and her husband prior to seeing The Phantom at the State. Our server, Duncan, was great! He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food and drinks were outstanding! We didn’t feel rushed and enjoyed our dinner. We made it to the show in plenty of time as it’s less than a five minute walk.
Would not hesitate to go again. Enjoyed from arrival time to exit time
Close to the theater. Service was awesome. I got a fish dish and I wasnt too impressed but my husband got the pork chops and they were wonderful.
Great experience. Nice location next to Playhouse square the service was very efficient and the food was great. Nice small plates and regular entrees menu. Great dinner!
I had the pork chop and Brussels sprouts and it was absolutely perfect. I’ve never had better Brussels sprouts. Our service was excellent and they made sure we were out in time for our show. I would highly recommend Cowell & Hubbard.
We loved our meals, the pace was perfect, just an overall great experience. We had the escargot which I have had before and absolutely love. My 17 year old daughter said “I could eat this everyday “
Great "eat in the bar" place. Food is super, service is always super and I never leave hungry. My only wish about C&W is for more comfortable chairs in the dining room.
Duncan is an excellent server. His skills are impeccable. The food was wonderful, and I will definitely be back.
Food was fabulous! Service was exceptional! Great variety of menu items to chose from. Very attentive wait staff!
Pre theater meal
The food was very good - the small plates were a hit with our group. We all did numerous small plates as appetizer and entrée. Our server Casey was very good - he explained the menu options and was very attentive. Will definitely be back.
This is the 3rd time I've been here. Every time has been a good experience till now. We were a party of two and they sat us at a table in the middle of the open kitchen area. Its was very awkward and loud. It was like sitting in the hall. People were going back and forth all over. We made the reservation weeks in advance and it felt like they ran out of room and threw a table together. The food was good but not as good as I remembered it being.
We had dinner at Cowell & Hubbard last weekend before a play. The service was quite professional, yet friendly and helpful. Food was superb, my wife ordering the mussels appetizer as a main dish. She feels that it is the best mussels dish in Cleveland. I ordered two appetizers - Chicken spring rolls and Thai Chicken meatballs. Both were delicious and filling. Ordered two glasses of Cabernet Sauvignon and the flourless chocolate torte to finish off the dinner.
This is an excellent place for pre-theater dinners, just down the block from Playhouse Square. Recommend it highly.
Great service, great food! The waiter was very sensitive to our food allergy and very mindful of the show time in getting us in and out quickly. I highly recommend dinner here before the theatre!
I admit up front that I am partial to Zack Bruell's restaurants. Nevertheless, we had an outstanding evening at Cowell & Hubbard. The restaurant presents fresh and interesting ingredients in traditional vehicles that challenge without overwhelming. Flavors were complex and presentation was beautiful. The main element, however, that made our evening so memorable was our server Mike. He understood immediately that we enjoy taking our time sampling and sharing dishes over the course of an extended evening. He was attentive, engaged and funny, the best part of a great time. It was so cool to be assisted by someone who understood that for us our entainment is eating. We want to discuss each dish and be guided through options we might not consider. It was a delight dining with him and will we ask for him by name when we return in the near future. Please note that Cowell & Hubbard is near Playhouse Square, so there is a pre-show rush. I suggest waiting until after the shows have begun and then go for a top-shelf dining experience.
A wonderful addition to the dining scene in Cleveland. Extensive menu ensures I will return for more.
VERY few vegetarian options
As usual with a Zack Bruell restaurant, the food and service were both extraordinary! Make sure to try the seafood dumplings appetizer! Our server Jake made us feel like family friends and his recommendations were spot on.
Great service from Ian. Very helpful with our gluten free needs and just the right amount of attention. Beef shoulder outstanding as was the spaghetti squash.
Cowell & Hubbard is the perfect pre-theater restaurant. Delicious food served quickly, elegant ambiance, not too loud (the high-backed booths afford privacy and quiet), and yummy desserts such as dense chocolate cake and meringues with ice cream.
Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Food was excellent!
Went for Cleveland Independent Restaurants Week. Menu given to us at the restaurant was a bit different than what was on the website. A bit disappointing considering the appetizer and main course I wanted was no longer offered. Server was one of the best I have had i a long time. We were seated as the theater crowd was starting to leave so the noise level went down a lot. My chicken wing app was under cooked (manager comped my glass of wine). Pork chop was a bit less done than I like it but good. Grits were wonderful. We will go back and try their regular menu soon.
Our waiter Jose and the whole serving staff was very attentive as well as the manager Mike Grano. I only gave it a four for food this time because I didn’t love my pasta special of the day (liked it though) but the rest of the food was wonderful and I still love their spaghetti squash.
Raw steak and fish. I never return food so what can I say.
The presentation of the food was lovely. Everything was delicious!
The food was perfectly prepared and presented. The service was perfect. Thank you for a wonderful birthday celebration!
Wait staff struggled with everything: knowledge of menu, gluten free offerings, getting food and drink out to table.
Everything was great once again! Thank you C&W!
Chicken was on the tough side
The black bean soup was mushy bean
Before Theater Dinner with my wife!
The staff was was excellent, the food was fantastic and timing was on point! We had a wonderful experience and are going back!!
It was perfect for a slightly upscale date night. When we first got there, the restaurant was bustling, but as our waiter, Jose, predicted, it cleared out just a little while later— the show crowd had tickets. Our meal was spaced out well, which in this situation was perfect. I get the sense that if you have a show to get to, it’s a much different experience. Our waiter was wonderful, very knowledgeable with a good sense of humor. And the food was very good. It was a very pleasant experience overall, and well priced— on the expensive side, but not so much that it’s prohibitive.
We attended the 130 show at playhouse and dined here afterwards. It was excellent. Our server was one of the best servers we have ever had! Food was excellent and priced properly. Will be back!
I realize I was an individual who did not order wine, but that should not mean I deserved less attention, or ice cold bread, or a server who bumped into my table twice while serving a different table, knocking my water glass without acknowledging they did it. The food was good, not exceptional.
Gormet vegan meals, wonderful drink options and an overall enjoyable presentation. We are looking forward to our next visit.
I love this restaurant. I had some dietary special needs, and my waiter was gracious and went above and beyond to accommodate my needs. I appreciate the food and the service and highly recommend this restaurant, especially before or after a show.
We really enjoyed the after show drinks and apps we had following the School of Rock! Bar service was exceptional as always, thanks Casey and crew for a great evening and to the evening.
The food was excellent, reasonable value and the service was excellent. The only negative is that we had a table for two and the space between the adjoining tables was too close. It was difficult to carry on a any type of private conversation.
Great dinner before heading over to see school of rock....food came out fast and the custom cocktails fabulous!
Service and food wonderful and an excellent value. The wait staff are kind and the manager, Michael, was friendly
