Anniversary Dinner food was yummy
Awesome as usual! The best Steak Restaurant in San Diego! 20 Stars to our waiter Mark. Above and beyond.
I gave my husband three restaurant choices for his birthday and I am glad he picked Cowboy Star. I had never been here and always like to try new restaurants. I was very pleased with our choice. First of all I loved our table for two which was a round small booth. It was cozy. My husband had a Caesar salad - his go to- for an appetizer salad and I had the piccata sweetbreads. There are not too mNy restaurants in town thAt serves sweetbreads and I really like them. Have to say these did not disappoint- they were up there with one of the best I’ve ever had. Then we shared a large rib eye steak and ordered the mushrooms as well. We usually order steak rare but at the suggestion of our wonderful waiter we ordered medium rare and it was perfect. So tender... then for dessert we had bread pudding my husband is not a dessert eater but he loves breAd pudding. It was delicious- Also one last thing we had decaf coffee in a French press - I am a coffee lover- I have mine sent from Colorado because of a great restaurant experience we had in Estes Park. This coffee was just as good - I meant to ask what kind it was- if you can let me know I would appreciate it. Lastly but not least- our waiter was fabulous. I am embarrassed to say I don’t remember his name- I just know he is an attorney as well. He was very knowledgeable about the menu, wines and a great conversationalist. We will be back.
They were extremely attentive and very kind. I feel like it was a high valued meal
This place is a classic steakhouse that is hip with great ambiance. Food is great and the service impeccable (thanks Sean!)
I came for dinner with a girlfriend. Our waiter was extremely pushy from the get go. We wanted to share an entree and he wouldn't stop pushing us to order more dishes. We shared an appetizer, salad, and entree. The food was good. There was something off in the tuna tartare. The wedge salad was excellent, and the scallop dish was good. The prices are ridiculous and not tied to reality in any way. $46 for a scallop dish is absurd. Yes we pay for the creativity and not just the ingredients, but come on. This is downtown price-gauging and there's no other way to put it. No wonder the restaurant was mostly empty.
Great food, good experience
We celebrated our son coming home from college at his favorite restaurant. Fantastic meal as always. First time back since their remodel of the bar area. Looks great. Would definitely go back and eat in this area.
New remodel is nice, food exceptional as always, had a few attempts to get one of the steaks prepared to the correct temp but overall was a good experience.
The service was great. The appetizers were delicious. Our steaks and sides needed seasoning.
Excellent. From beginning to end. We Recomend T-bone, hamburguer, and Squeeze Orange juice.
Took a client there for dinner, being from NY and used to the typical NY steakhouse I wasn't sure what to expect. But the food was excellent - I ordered a bone in ribeye that was cooked perfectly to my order. It was neither over seasoned (like a Delfrisco) or under seasoned. Service was excellent.
The only disappointment was the selection of potato sides. The protein comes with mash potatoes, but I'd like to have the option of another potatoes side eg pan roasted, parm waffle fries, Au Graten etc.
If you LOVE a great steak, you cannot miss this downtown eatery. Start with steak tartar, or a wedge salad with a slice of thick smoked bacon. The four of us chose three different steaks (sirloin strip, filet, and their special strip steak) from the menu, a horseradish and an au poivre sauce, and added a side of mushrooms.. We brought a bottle of 2012 ARafanelli zinfandel ($30 corkage), and it did the meal justice. Dessert were glasses of brut rose and tawny port. Splitting the meat (the waiter’s idea) was a superb way to try different pieces of meat. Individual sides of mashed potatoes (which actually tasted like potatoes), and blanched asparagus spears were included. Evening parking can be a challenge..
This was a great dining experience from start to finish. The restaurant has a lovely interior and good sound baffling. Even with the place full you could chat easily. The steaks are truly fabulous. So tender and cooked exactly as ordered. The service is extremely good. The wine list is large and well put together.
This was our first time. The food was perfect, and the decor is nice.
The Wagyu skirt steak was Amazing!! We love this place.
Such a wonderful experience. Small intimate restaurant.
The service wasn’t as good as before. Waited for things too long, then they were clearing our table the second we said were didn’t want desert. Very rushed.
Fantastic service and food. Great experience. Can’t wait to go back. Thanks everyone! Keep up the great work.
Incredibly expensive for less than impressive food. Steak WAS great, but not worth the $300 price tag.
Amazing experience! Loved the atmosphere. Our server was excellent. Food was wonderful. We ordered oysters as an appetizer and they were fantastic. All of our steaks were cooked perfectly. 10/10 recommend if you’re in San Diego!!
The best steak in San Diego....hands down! The service is impeccable and the drinks, apps and sides are amazing. Book it now!
OMG! We had a counter seat and it was great. Hearing the chef de cousin keep orders flowing, seeing him do quality control and hearing him praise the other chefs was as remarkable as the food and service.
Our steaks were cold in the center at a medium temperature
We LOVED this restaurant! We fell upon this blindly and were pleasantly surprised! The staff is amazing, knowledgable and friendly. The atmosphere is cool and inviting without trying too hard. The food was spectacular! We were truly torn as to what to order because everything sounded so delicious and of course we were not disappointed. We will tell everyone about Cowboy Star and we will certainly return. The only thing I could ever say was a bit odd , dare I say uncomfortable. We were lucky enough to be seated at the Chefs Bar. While this really is the best place to be, really amazing to watch the talented staff all working together. The chairs at the bar are high swivel chairs without a foot rest. So you feel a bit like a small child , unable to touch the floor or rest your feet upon something. After an hours time, our legs were pretty uncomfortable . Otherwise the Cowboys Star is just a fantastic place to eat! We highly recommend it!
Excellent food and excellent service !! It by far exceeded my expectations.
Service was outstanding! Parking was horrendous! Food was good. My husband ordered the aged ribeye and I ordered the bison New York strip. I have to say I’d rather have the ribeyes my husband grills. Expected more flavor especially for the price. The knives were rather dull and I had a hard time cutting through my medium rare bison without it sliding all over the plate. Potatoes weren’t hot either.
Amazing food !
Server knew exactly what to recommend, meats nicely cooked and amazing flavor !
Amazing service with equally amazing food. Appetizers, main entrees, sides and drinks were high quality and quickly brought to our table. The timing of it all was also great, so we never had food waiting and our steaks were served promptly after our salads and at the perfect temperature.
A bit noisy.
Waiters too eager to get the orders. Not a relaxing place.
Food and wines very good.
First time and was not disappointed. Service and food was perfect. If we come back, I would opt to sit at the bar. The energy seemed more our speed.
Great place! Amazing food. Easy to find. Parking might be tough but we walked. Will be making this a place to eat at again.
I was not notified by your organization or the Cowboy Star that the restaurant was closed for lunch on Wednesday (2-19-2020.) I and my guest are handicapped and this lack of communication caused us to pay double for our transportation.
Both of us have relished our past experiences at "the Star". We may try again on Thursday (3-5-2020.)
Thanks for listening,
Way too expensive for steaks that tasted the same as chain steakhouses. There's nothing special about this place. We also were seated right in the middle with people all around us within inches. Waste of time and money. My steak was dry and had no flavor.
Always amazing, the best steak house in San Diego- or perhaps anywhere!
By far our favorite place for great beef and cocktails always!
We go here every year for our anniversary because the service, atmosphere, and food is always outstanding! We made a note in our opentable reservation that it was our first wedding anniversary and Cowboy start printed custom menus that said "Happy 1st Wedding Anniversary" on the top and let us keep them for a keepsake. So thoughtful!
