Exceptional ( the best steak in San Diego) steak, beautiful restaurant!
Everything was delicious. It was a good choice. We will be back!
The food was exceptional! I ordered the Wagyu Skirt Steak and it came perfectly cooked! Very nice plating and combination of sides made for an awesome meal. Food is only one important aspect of the dining experience, the next is service. My waiter was very attentive throughout the dinner and made very educated suggestions for drinks and sides to pair with my meal. Not only himself but other waiters that brought different dishes too us would make their suggestions as well. Lastly, the restaurant for being as open as it is, was very quiet. The modern mixed with rustic design and decor was very inviting and pleasant to be in. All in all I give it five stars, the combination of food, service and ambiance was more than I had hoped for!
I would like to express a apology to the manager and staff for one of my guests for dinner that night. He ordered a $65 steak that he felt was over cooked. The manager politely cooked a fresh steak and he still wasn’t satisfied and asked for it to be removed from the bill. I was so embarrassed!! Obviously he didn’t know what he wanted and was intoxicated. Needless to say I will never go to dinner with him again. Me and my husband will definitely be back!
Love this place! Great food and awesome service all the time! Steak tartare is my favorite and wagyu skirt steak is the best.
Our staff messed up the reservation, their staff made it work! I could not have asked for a better Birthday dinner!
Excellent service, most delicious steak I’ve ever had, lovely charcuterie and cheese board! If you like an incredible steak, this is the place for you in San Diego.
Amazing food and a beautiful evening with the love of my life
This was the first time we had been to Cowboy Star. We went to celebrate a very special occasion and were not disappointed. From the atmosphere when we arrived to the excellent food and very attentive service, it was a dining experience like no other. I would enjoy going back, but the prices are a bit out of my range for anything but a super special occasion like this was. Thanks for making it so memorable! :)
Made reservation for birthday celebration. Cowboys confirmed reservation by text, email, and phone call. I frankly felt hassled by the repeated confirmation. When arrived, tried to sit us at the door when the Restuarant was open. What was more disappointing was the fact that they did not recognize the special occasion.
Good sized portions and meal included veggies and a starch. Meal was good, not exceptional. Steak was perfectly cooked.
Wine menu needs a complete overhaul. With limited exception, all Californian wines. 100% domestic wines. Zero international. For a steakhouse, 3 Cabs with the oldest being 2015 was extremely disappointing.
REI Do Gado is much better experience, value, wine selection, and service. The also recognize when it’s your Birthday.
This is definitely the best steak place in all of San Diego, and probably my favorite restaurant.
Everything about Cowboy Star deserves an A+ - food, service, ambiance, etc. Of course, the steak main courses were delicious, but the standouts of the night were one of our appetizers - house-made pasta with mushroom and foie gras - and a rotating dessert - funfetti cake (adult version). After commenting on how amazing the pasta was, our server said they always knock it out of the park, but they aren't ordered much. So, I urge everyone to add a pasta dish - it's worth it! Plus, you can always take leftovers home if you get too much.
The food, service, and ambiance are 5 star! Highly recommended for special occasions or when you need a great steak.
Everything was delicious and service was helpful and unobtrusive. Great meal!!
Our server Glenn was fantastic and well informed, we didn’t feel rushed but he helped pace the dinner, attentive but not hovering. The busboy and food runners were skilled and our meal was perfectly timed. I will absolutely be back and can’t wait to eat everything I see.
Anniversary dinner date with hubby was very enjoyable. Servers were very attentive. Got special menus that said Happy Anniversary at the top and dessert came with same message in chocolate across the plate. Nice details.
Spent $200 on a steak and they charge $0.30 for sauce. Cool.
We went there for our friends birthday. They made us custome menus that said Happy Birthday! Up top. I wish I knew I could personalize it to day his name as well! But amazing food, outstanding service and great energy in the place!
If you want GREAT service, GREAT food...this experience is the one you won’t want to deprive yourself of.
Everything about the dining experience was Awesome! Best steak and potatoes ever.
Cowboy Start seeks to please. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. Steak tartare was one of the best we've ever had. Menu is very meat focussed but there are seafood options and one vegetarian option. We'd love to see an additional appetizer that would appeal to a lighter taste -- a crudo etc.
Booth seating is always nice and cozy. And the cowboy theme is done well, stylish and sophisticated. The kitchen is open style. There is a fireplace just as you enter the restaurant.
The price point is high. The Waygu skirt steak came in at $50 and was accompanied by mashed potatoes and green beans. It was very good. Scallops also were a win and had gourmet accoutrements.
Did we mention there's an "amuse bouche"? Love that extra touch.
If you like steak tartare, then coming here is a must.
In town from VA and ate there twice this week. Each steak was delicious perfection!
Celebrated a birthday. Service is always impeccable. Food was fantastic and the drinks are always good.
The food is flavorful. Flavor is the upmost consideration at this establishment. So many steak houses serve a slab of meat but with little flavor. At Cowboy Star the steak, salad, sides are all imbued with flavor.
Despite reservations, we were seated 30-45 minutes late and missed another venue planned that evening.
I think this is a place every San Diegan should go at least once! Make reservations
Well in advance.
I am a carnivore. I admit it. And I love steak. I’m known amongst friends of making the best steak around. Smoked, Sous Vide, grilled, pan seared, I love all of it. So you could assume I’m picky when it comes to dining out for beef.
We started with the tartar. Great texture, blend of spice and well balanced, finished with our brut champagne we brought with us. I viewed the menu and have been wanting the snake river farms skirt for a while. It’s served over garlic potatoes and green beans. I was done perfectly medium rare and just melted in your mouth. I paired it with a Justin Cab by the glass. Btw blind tasted the justin $17/glass and the Stags Leap Artemis $27/Glass. Great way of deciding wether or not more $ taste better.
We will be back for the Miyazaki Wagyu when I land my next project. $200 a plate is curiously enticing. Reviews of the ribeye make my mouth water.
Just a perfect meal from start to finish. Don't waste your time anywhere else. If you want the best steaks with good local flare this is it.
Nothing exotic, just delicious and perfectly cooked steak and sides + good wine and excellent service
Sat at the Chef's counter. It's like watching a theatre production. All food were cooked to perfection. Excellent wine list, the server was attentive. Will definitely go back.
Another wonderful lunchtime experience at CS; food, presentation and service were all excellent. The Butchers Choice Waygu Steak was exceptional. My associates also said how much they enjoyed the food and setting.
Incredible steak... we sat at the counter and were looked after by Elliott, one of the chefs. He was great, the food was great, it was great.... 10/10
Awesome steaks, love sitting at the counter to watch the chefs at work. Will be back.
It was the first time for my husband and myself at this restaurant. We were celebrating our first marriage anniversary, and honestly beyond my expectations. The food was delicious the pudding cake awesome. We had to bring our newborn with us since she was a little sick and staff didn’t have an issue to find a table that accommodate the three us since it was a last minute request. Well worth paying 50.00 the plate. Reason I didn’t give 5 stars it was because one of th hostess keep looking at me in a awkwardly way that was kind of rude. But overall awesome service and I would definitely recommend this place.
50th Birthday dinner for hubby
We were celebrating our anniversary so we opted to try out the Cowboy Steakhouse and sat at the Chef's table. It was really interesting watching all of the chefs cooking, plating and interacting with each other. Our server (sorry, I don't remember his name) was very knowledgeable and attentive without being pushy. We started with the steak tartar and while a little salty, it was very good. We then shared a ribeye steak that was delicious along with spinach that was a bit too rich for our tastes. The mashed potatoes were to die for! Not sure how much butter & cream they used but they were the best mashed potatoes we've had in ages! We were too full to try the chocolate chip bread pudding that our waiter raved about - too bad - it sure smelled good as we watched the pastry chef making some! While expensive, this place is definitely worth it for a special occasion!
they are such nice people
Garth make best Martini in the world
It’s a really fun (expensive) place to have dinner. The only thing I cannot get over is the hostesses. They need better training. They are weak and awkward
