Cowboy Star Ratings and Reviews
We were in town for a long weekend and wanted to visit a local steakhouse. It was easy to get a reservation on a Sunday evening. The restaurant is small, but intimate. I loved that you can see right into the kitchen. We sat in a booth, but there is bar seating that looks straight into the kitchen. Great menu with awesome accompaniments paired with the steaks. Our steaks were cooked to perfection. Overall we really enjoyed our evening; our bottle of Pinot was fabulous as well!
This was the second time we have been here. We came back because we absolutely love it. The food is amazing. I have been to many steakhouses before and this by far is the best I have ever eaten. Better than Ruth Chris, better than Flemmings. Absolutely delicious. The ambiance is amazing and the service is top notch. Worth every penny.
The staff was great and I like the open kitchen design. I stopped by after dinner to tell the Cook Crew what a fantastic job they did on our meal. The restaurant is small though & two of us were right in between groups of 6 so it was pretty loud. Even with a reservation in advance they couldn't seat us elsewhere when we asked right as they were seating us. But hey sometimes other conversations can be entertaining!
Their charcuterie plate had some delicious cheese on it and the meats are all produced in house and added a wonderful local aspect to the plate. As for the actual meal, the Bison NY cut was simply awesome & the Dry Aged Rib Eye full rib cut was one of the best I have tasted in San Diego. Special shout out to the Mushroom Dish made up of 3 types of mushrooms and served in a cast iron on wood type plate. Really fantastic and it rounded out the meal nicely.
All around a great experience and we will be back for sure!
Amazing steak house finally along the San Diego coast. Terrific selection of aged and fine wagyu beef and many seafood options as well. Try the wagyu tongue and definitely the scallops. Best bread pudding and baked Alaska ever. Great find! Perfect wine and cocktail pairing options!
Our waiter Luis was great and made the experience feel personalized and worthwhile. The meat came out better than expected, rib eye and filet, they even comped a desert for my girlfriends birthday. Happy birthday menu which we got to keep. Wine was reasonable and very good.
Overall a great experience and I would definitely go back for another special occasion.
Cowboy Star is an absolute must for any San Diego locals or visitors. Their steaks are unparalleled! My husband and I have been spoiled with great steaks our whole lives and I would say Cowboy Star is one of the best- if not THE best! We both agree we now prefer Cowboy Star over Ruths Chris. I recommend this place to all of my friends and cant wait to come back for the next special occasion!
We hoped for burgers, but they weren't available at dinnertime. We thought, because of the name, that it would be a restaurant with an Old West ambiance, but it was modern and sleek. We split a delicious house salad and the 14 oz. dry aged ribeye. It was beautifully presented as they sliced the steak into 7 or 8 pieces so you weren't given a hunk of half the steak. It was very tasty, but I've had better, much better. Staff was eager to please and friendly as one would expect. They did a very nice job for 2 weary tourists.
My 4th Time here. Best service amazing food never disappointed. Steak cooked to perfection. Best bone marrow ever. Drinks were delicious. Love sitting at the counter it’s like a food show . Nothing better than great food and amazing entertainment. Perfection
Food and service were great - was super bummed that they didn’t acknowledge my husbands birthday despite putting it in the reservation notes and telling the hostess when I arrived. Made it worse that the table next to us had a celebration that was acknowledged. Thumbs down for that for sure.
Otherwise great recommendations from server and great food.
Our first time and I had requested a private table and they made it happen. My husband has always wanted to try this place so I booked it for his birthday. The food was excellent and our server Adam was amazing. The service was attentive but not too much and we didn't feel rushed at all. We ended with their bread pudding and all was well. We will definitely be back, the only thing that was not spectacular was the truffles that are extra, not worth it at all.
Three of us were dining, nice decor in restaurant, looked promising..ordered a vodka martini, it arrived with a big jammy lipgloss print from the last user of the glass.
Apologies from waiter. When my martini was returned, I was halfway through my drink when I looked closely and the glass had simply been badly wiped ! Yuck. The waiter did not even bother to give me a fresh glass.
That's just dreadful customer care.
The atmosphere for the rest of our pleasant night out was dashed! I was fuming at the lack of care from the waiter. I like to treat everyone as " I am a person, I am important " obviously , in Cowboy Star, I'm not that important...
