Sat at the Chef's counter. It's like watching a theatre production. All food were cooked to perfection. Excellent wine list, the server was attentive. Will definitely go back.
Another wonderful lunchtime experience at CS; food, presentation and service were all excellent. The Butchers Choice Waygu Steak was exceptional. My associates also said how much they enjoyed the food and setting.
Incredible steak... we sat at the counter and were looked after by Elliott, one of the chefs. He was great, the food was great, it was great.... 10/10
Awesome steaks, love sitting at the counter to watch the chefs at work. Will be back.
It was the first time for my husband and myself at this restaurant. We were celebrating our first marriage anniversary, and honestly beyond my expectations. The food was delicious the pudding cake awesome. We had to bring our newborn with us since she was a little sick and staff didn’t have an issue to find a table that accommodate the three us since it was a last minute request. Well worth paying 50.00 the plate. Reason I didn’t give 5 stars it was because one of th hostess keep looking at me in a awkwardly way that was kind of rude. But overall awesome service and I would definitely recommend this place.
50th Birthday dinner for hubby
We were celebrating our anniversary so we opted to try out the Cowboy Steakhouse and sat at the Chef's table. It was really interesting watching all of the chefs cooking, plating and interacting with each other. Our server (sorry, I don't remember his name) was very knowledgeable and attentive without being pushy. We started with the steak tartar and while a little salty, it was very good. We then shared a ribeye steak that was delicious along with spinach that was a bit too rich for our tastes. The mashed potatoes were to die for! Not sure how much butter & cream they used but they were the best mashed potatoes we've had in ages! We were too full to try the chocolate chip bread pudding that our waiter raved about - too bad - it sure smelled good as we watched the pastry chef making some! While expensive, this place is definitely worth it for a special occasion!
they are such nice people
Garth make best Martini in the world
It’s a really fun (expensive) place to have dinner. The only thing I cannot get over is the hostesses. They need better training. They are weak and awkward
This was an extraordinary dining experience. From the moment we were seated at the Chef’s counter. We were greeted by Chef Elliott who offered to answer any dining or prep questions while he meticulously created edible pieces of art. It was a pleasure as a ‘foodie’ and a couple that has been in the food industry for 40+ years ( unknown to restaurant) to have such an enjoyable & educational dining experience. From 1st course to dessert course.
Just WOW !!!!!!
Nothing wrong to say ... beside exterior ( building front ) look does not reflect the interior decor or setup ...
Service was exceptional ! Food was an experience ! Recommandes for sure
Service was terrific. Food only so so, bread order was nothing great, even though an extra charge. Steaks were fine enough, well cooked to order but a but on tough side. Oddly the steak knifes provided did not seem too sharp which accentuated this observation.
Bread pudding was very good.
Everything was good, but not great. The wine list was disappointing unless you happen to love overpriced American wine. Little to no Italian, French, Spanish, or even Aussie selections. Service was on point. The best thing we ate was the tartare. It's overpriced, but that is par for the course considering the location.
When it’s time to indulge your meat needs, no need to look further! Cowboy has it in spades.
Atmosphere is lively, rustic, classy. Great , friendly service and terrific vibe.
this was the second time that we have eaten in here and both times the food and service has been outstanding.
Phenomenal food! I surprised my boyfriend by taking him here. Literally nothing I can eat as I have dietary restrictions but it wasn't a problem and I had an amazing meal as well. The decor is so freaking cool! Lux western. Sit at the chefs table! It is so cool to watch everything being made. We were there for ovet two hours. It is an experience!
Pure Awesomesauce! This should be at the top of your list!
Appetizers were excellent but steaks were just average and at these prices they need to be amazing. Will not return
I made a reservation for 7:45 PM, obviously since Open Table is asking me for a review. It was a business dinner with clients. We weren't seated until 8:30 PM. We received no apology. All we were told was that a table of guests were taking longer than expected. All I needed was an apology and I would have moved on. The restaurant cleared out and it still took very long to get our main course and the staff seemed perplexed that we were annoyed. For a steak house, it took extremely long for our main course to arrive when we eventually ordered and the 18 oz. rib-eye was average. The fois gras was excellent, however. Perhaps the place had a bad night and it happens, I get it. But please, just apologize for the delay and most folks, like me will get over it. Ignore the issue and poor reviews will follow.
Cowboy star impresses again. Everything was phenomenal. The staff was very accommodating when we had an extra person and thwy were super knowledgeable about the menu. Best steaks around and martinis to match. We had the filet and skirt steak and our vegetarian friend really enjoyed the risotto. The mussles and Carpaccio for apps were to die for. Cant wait to go back!
Great steakhouse. Food was excellent and service couldn’t have been better.
Horrible dining experience. I kindly mentioned that it was a bit noisy (truly really noisy) and asked to be seated in a quieter space which was available and all the Manager could offer was the table behind us. Little did he know that from our table we could see a table in a quieter space the entire time we were at dinner. IT WAS NEVER OCCUPIED!!! PS - this place is not large. When you go to fine dining, you expect good food and a great dining experience. Food was good but we will never return because the dining experience SUCKED!!!!
Great service and food!
Cowboy Star never disappoints. The service and food are excellent. We enjoy dining at the counter, to enjoy the kitchen side dining. It’s also our go-to for Happy Hour when we are Downtown.
Sought out the best non-chain steakhouse in San Diego, and the reviews pointed us here. As steakhouses go, it was very good. Friendly service. The steaks were fine. Appreciated that the entrees included potato and vegetable--so often, the steak is totally Ala carte and you have to spend another $20 on sides. That was not the case here. Also, we dined the next night at another local steak spot--Lou & Mickey's--and Cowboy Star was far superior in both food and service.
I love this place, but the $30 corkage is worth complaining about.
It was a birthday dinner for a long time friend and the first time he had been there. The server, Joshua, was very attentive to our table but not in your face all the time, just the kind of table service that I want. The food was delicious, steak was melt in your mouth, halibut was fresh and flavorful and dessert was yummy.
I have had numerous work events and lunches there and they always get my thumbs up.
Amazing Food! Loved the Wyguy Skirt steak! Tasty Drinks (Broken Arrow). Service was fantastic! We also spent some time here for Happy Hour- bartender was knowledge and fast! Overall amazing experience- definitely will be back. We've already recommended our friends who live in San Diego to go there!
This place is amazingggggg! Open kitchen and food is wonderful. Service is top notch. Great for a date or special occasion. We were impressed and the steaks....wowwww.
Everything was delicious! Our waiter was great and the wagyu was absolutely perfect. Will be back!
We were from out of town and took a chance on this restaurant for a surprise retirement dinner for a close colleague. The environment was warm and elegant, but not stuffy. Loved the "cowboy" theme, but it wasn't overdone and cheezy. The food was outstanding. The chef was masterful and putting together just the right combination of flavors. I felt so strongly about it I asked to meet him so I could tell him personally! Try the beet salad. A bit pricey, but the filet mignon was totally worth the money. We also had phenomenal service.
Cowboy star steps away from the traditional red leather, wood paneled decor of many high end steak houses to provide a vibrant, distinctive setting to enjoy wonderfully selected and expertly prepared steaks. Equal attention was paid to the crafting of salads and desserts. These courses focused on flavor and finesse rather than the usual calories and quantities. The wine list complements the menu well, though it could benefit from some older wines. Service was very knowledgeable, professional and interactive.
The food here is always exceptional. The staff is extremely polite and helpful. When you see them ironing the table clothes in between guests, you really see the attention to detail. Always love the compliments of the chef tasters that are provided.
Everything was amazing ! It was our first time having a meal there and we couldn’t have been more impressed . Garth started us off with some old fashions and they were truly phenomenal. The meal was perfect and our server ( female) was beyond knowledgeable and gave us great suggestions . We will definitely be back
We loved the grass fed options for the steaks. We will go back.
I love this place. I really do. Probably my favorite steak house in San Diego. The service has been impeccable and the food outstanding every time I have gone to CS. Nothing different about this occasion. Great food, great service!
However, I do have one gripe: apparently they've recently upped their corkage fee to $30, which I find to be excessive and, frankly, greedy, and feel compelled to mention it her. I'm sure many people will assume I am cheap, but believe it or not, far from it. I genuinely and generally have no problem paying a corkage fee. I have a lot of wine at home that I know the quality of and would generally be happy to pay a fair corkage than have to pay twice as much for a bottle of similar quality and value. I know the concept of the corkage fee and understand that alcohol is a large part of a restaurant's margins. My gripe is not with the practice but with the amount that keeps creeping up, CS apparently being on the forefront here. It took me long a while to accept over the last few years as restaurants at this level pushed to make $25 the norm, but $30 just felt egregious, especially considering I purchased over $50 in cocktails from them as well. Our bill was $260+ before a generous tip (north of 20%), so squeezing that extra money out feels excessive to me.
DELISH!!! DELISH!!! DELISH!!! DELISH!!! DELISH!!! DELISH!!! DELISH!!! DELISH!!!
Wagyu and Dry-Aged Ribeye steaks were the two best pieces of meat I've ever had. Excellent and attentive staff.
Made these reservations over a month ahead of the date, yet was still sat in the back overflow room. This room is terrible and the ambiance is nothing like the rest of the restaurant. It has three awkwardly placed tables, nothing on the walls and is very segregated from the main dining area. I asked to be moved to a better a table and they obliged very kindly.
Other than this the experience, service and food, was excellent.
