Service was impeccable. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. She paired our steaks with drinks that enhanced the flavors. She was extremely friendly, patient, and caring. Food was delicious and well favored. The old fashion was well made and the chive ice cream to clear our pallet was a first for us
Honestly I've only been here twice and I haven't been disappointed. The food is impeccable, the service is outstanding, and the atmosphere is perfect for any occasion. 10/10 will be back again.
It was a little challenging to hear the servers throughout the meal. The food tasted amazing! The only I wish I could change was the option to be able to substitute the sides that came with the stake dinners.
The food was excellent and the service was wonderful. However, at this price point, I was surprised to see a charge for "bread service". Really? No fine restaurants do that. Tables were awfully close to each other, that would be my only other complaint.
It has become a tradition for my husband and me to have a date night here for his birthday every year. It is the best steak available in San Diego and the sides are equally praiseworthy. We do, however, make sure to leave room for dessert. I have a major sweet tooth and the bread pudding is one of the best things I have ever eaten. (Confession: we sometimes show up for happy hour, enjoying a drink or two plus sharing an appetizer, just so we can close it out with the bread pudding. It is honestly that delicious.)
Great atmosphere. The renovations look great and opened up the place and added more space at the bar. The food was superb, service was great. One of the best places I’ve dined!
If you want an amazing steak, delicious cocktails, and service done right, Cowboy Star has all those things down. The Waygu skirt prepared medium rare is my favorite; it practically melts in your mouth. My girl had the filet mignon and it was butter smooth. Topped the meal with their always amazing chocolate chip bread pudding. Every time we go, we can't wait to make it back. Romantic night? Start it with Cowboy Star.
Cowboy Star never disappoints. We enjoyed seeing the newly remodeled restaurant and look forward to trying the seating near the butcher shop. Speaking of the butcher shop, our server was able to have the butcher cut a 32 ounce dry aged rib eye for us to share.
The service and food are top notch.
I had a reservation for 9:15 and was seated at 9:35. Not a big deal really but my girl was in heels and there was no seating and it wasn’t very convenient
Food was great! We had a nice time. We were disappointed that we ordered the bread service and they forgot about us and never brought it. Also the tall hostess in the front... asked her for a picture and she seemed annoyed to do it. After looking at our one photo she took it was completely blurry. Bummer.
Great food. Great service. We had a wonderful time!
One word covers everything - FANTASTIC.
The Porterhouse was delicious, the Wedge and Cesare salads were excellent and the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding a fitting end to an awesome meal.
The service was second to none. Our waiter was attentive helpful and friendly.
The newly renovated restaurant was comfortable and cozy.
This is one restaurant you don’t want to miss in San Diego. They have perfected the art of fine dinning.
Food was very good and the renovations looked great. The back room where we were seated was far too noisy. That room is not good for multiple large groups, especially with a table of over served loud talkers!
I would recommend because I think my experience was an "off night" for Cowboy Star.
Fabulous as usual. Great service and food.
Service was amazing along with the food. It was probably my 5th time here. They had Beef Wellington as a special and it just blew my mind how rich and flavorful it was.
Always amazing! Love sitting at the counter. It provides you a different dining experience. The staff is great!
Amazing steak! Crab risotto was just ok. Service was top notch and our table was quiet and cozy next to fireplace. We expected to pay a lot however were annoyed by miscellaneous charges for things like horseradish, bread, sharing a plate, 4% surcharge, etc. I've been to other high-end steak houses that are not like that. Seemed like a money grab and took away from the experience. Otherwise it's a great place that we enjoyed.
The Parker Rolls and Wedge Salad was delicious and my Filet Mignon was cooked perfectly. So tender and flavorful!
Mark was our server again-excellent as usual!
We love Cowboy Star and always have a great time when we dine here. The service can't be beat and the food is excellent!
The best of the best.. but for the "noise".. not thinking "energetic" is the right word to describe.. would say loud to very loud.. very difficult hearing my guest from across the table...
Now.. food.. service.. the "best"... I dropped off a bottle Burgundy the hour before we arrived and requested that it would be in a decanter and ready for our meal.. "perfect"... steaks amazing.. dessert to die for.. "going back".....!!
Cocktails were great but pricey, wine was list underwhelming and over priced. Thought the $30 corkage fee was a bit excessive. Spicy marg and old fashioned were on point. The nitro infused coffee cocktail, while in a pretty glass, for $20 was nothing spectacular. Beet salad was very disappointing, it was a pressed circle of chopped up red beets for $16. I was expecting something much more extravagant, and really was looking forward to a salad. Certainly did not agree with it being under the salad category. When I mentioned to the server that it wasn’t at all what I was expecting and didn’t much care for it, he just disregarded the comments. The wedge salad had creamy blue cheese and yummy bacon on it, my husband loved it. Creamed spinach was the favorite side while the Mac and cheese was the least. Mac a cheese was pretty dry, seemed like it sat out and was re-heated. The steaks were all cooked to perfection. We had the dry aged rib eye, the filet and the bison strip. Creme brûlée was basic but date cake was excellent! Even though we were celebrating a birthday and spending $400 on dinner, no birthday desserts were complimentary. That was disappointing considering the server was strongly encouraging us to order a birthday dessert. Overall, we enjoyed the ambiance and the experience. Might return to check out happy hour so it’s less risky trying certain dishes that we may not enjoy.
Thank you for helping my husband and I celebrate our anniversary. The service was superb and the cocktails, steak, bread, Caesar salad and Mac and cheese were all spectacular.
The food was outstanding the service was awesome!! We will definitely be back! Merry Christmas Eve!!!
Great restaurant... Easily I’d rank it in the Top 5 of San Diego.
Steaks are the specialties but there’s a good number of seafood options as well.
Portions are enough as to share.
Not for kids...
Amazing steaks, appetizers, service, dessert , wine! Everything! The macaroni and mushroom sides were on point! The mussels were amazing! Bread pudding is my husbands favorite and it was so good! Allee was our waitress and she was incredibly nice and we felt like she was an old friend! All of her recommendations were perfect. We will definitely go back!
Attentive service that was subtle and helpful.
Great space. Steak was delicious and prepared nicely. Medium size ala cart green salad.
Though this is a pretty pricey place, it is well worth it. The steaks we had were delicious and cooked to perfection. The rolls were excellent. We will go back again.
One of the best restaurants in San Diego. Service and Food were top notch. Almost Michelin star worthy
We had to wait 45 minutes for our table to free up but everything else was fantastic.
Not up to usual standards. Squash soup was cold and bland. Steaks were delicious as normal. Potatoes on plate were quite cold. Mushroom side dish was average at best. Our server was just ok. Bread pudding was also delicious. Brought friends as Christmas present. Did not leave up to hype we had told them about.
Our table was a party of 4 and my steak and my customer’s steak both came out undercooked.
We both ordered medium and they came out medium rare...not even close to medium. We sent them back and it took 10 minutes to get them back so the other 2 went ahead and ate their steaks without us...not good.
They didn’t apologize for the mistake nor did they offer to comp us a drink or desserts or anything.
This is the second time this has happened to me at Cowboy Star....for the service and quality it is way over-priced.
HUGE disappointment. The food was pretty good, but our waiter was very sub-par and really impacted the entire experience. When you spend over $500 for dinner on a special occasion, you expect great food and great service. My T-bone was good but not great, though others in the party said their steaks were quite good. Paying extra for bread (which again was good not great) and steak sauces (also good not great) is annoying. We ordered food to go as well during our meal, and it never came. Our waiter chatted with another table for 15 minutes while we waited for him to collect our payment.
Again, for just an ordinary night out at a reasonable price point, it would have been fine. However, for what it's supposed to be, I see no reason to ever go back to Cowboy Star.
The ambiance was nice. However, the service was poor and the meal was not worth the price that we paid. Specifically, the wagyu skirt steak was extremely salty. When I pay several hundreds of dollars for a one-time meal, I expect excellent food and service. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
Perfect service, food, setting for our business lunch. Only criticism is the music could be quieter to enable easier conversation
We completely enjoyed our dinner at Cowboy Star. The food was so delicious, it was so hard to choose what to order. We had rib eyes and sirloin steaks for our entree and they were prepared perfectly. The sides were delicious and different from what everyone else does...gourmet all the way. The appetizers and desserts, not to be missed. And to make the evening perfect, the service was some of the best I’ve had. I will be going back!!
