Cove Hollow Tavern
This restaurant remains a mystery to those in East Hampton who love its sister restaurant on Shelter Island, Vine Street. When it opened there was great anticipation it would become a local hang out by those living close by. It never has. There is something chilly about the ambiance, and the astonishingly high ceilings don’t help. Making a reservation is way too involved, as you either wait for a late afternoon phone call confirming your vm, or you book on line, but the two are not linked which leads to all sorts of confusion. The heat was oppressive the night we were there, though we were told by our waiter our table was the worst one as the vents were above our head. A few other tables remained empty the entire evening. On a Saturday night in March it was 2/3 full at best. Prices are high, with many entrees in the $30 and $40 +range. While our waiter tried his best, it just doesn’t hold together as a memorable dining experience. Would we go back soon? Probably not.
Cove Hollow is an intimate space. They have a well balanced menu for all . It’s easy to dine here with Vegetarians and Carnivores. Firecracker shrimp is delicious. ⭐️
Nice spot in East Hampton for cozy, comfortable meal. Food was fine, not outstanding in any way, good service, nice ambiance. Comfortable, but not a memorable meal.
a real pleasure to eat at--diversified menu--warm people--as good as it gets in the Hamptons
Always nice to eat at the bar there.
Great food. Great service. Always enjoy Cove Hollow!
Everything we ordered was delicious and the service was great
Good food at reasonable prices. Good and personable service. Great ambiance.
Fabulous manager and staff
Warm friendly efficient impeccable service
Food is always hearty and excellent...
delicious food--warm welcoming greeting-- diversified menu/something for everyone--a very pleasant place to enjoy good food
This is the best "version" of Cove Hollow to date and I am happy that things are really firing on all cylinders now. The Fried Chicken (Sunday special) is wonderful and I look forward to enjoying this restaurant all through the winter.
They are normally reliable with good food served quickly and friendly service. They struggled during the holidays and were completely unorganized and service was excruciatingly slow with lots of missteps. Let's chalk it up to one bad night. Will go back
Everything was excellent from the food to the service.
We love this place . And it's great that Clint is back behind the bar.
Way too noisy. I left with a headache. But the food was good.
We stopped by for the Monday night Pre Fixe and loved every bite. The manager and bartender were fun, attentive and knowledgeable. We will be back soon.
Delicious food and wonderful service. We were celebrating our anniversary and they bought us dessert, so sweet! Will definitely return.
good food-quiet environment/good for conversation-diversified menu
We went for their Thursday night BBQ for two and it was excellent. Ribs, pulled pork (my favorite), chicken wings, beans with sausage, Cole slaw and corn bread. Definitely enough for two.
Best time of the year to enjoy a restaurant.
We were so excited to try this restaurant since it had great ratings on open table. They had one waiter for the whole restaurant on a Saturday night...are you kidding me? Charging $40+ for entrees and no service. Food came out slow and it wasn't very good. Ribs were dry, steak was raw. They forgot my side so it arrived after the meal was already complete. I waited 1 5 minutes to get my water glass filled. When you are paying Hampton prices you want a good meal and good service. We were so disappointing.
Lovely staff—delicious food—diversified menu— nice ambiance—one of the best
delicious, yummy, diversified menu, friendly, excellent service, welcoming staff
Second time at Cove Hollow. Perfect. Everything was perfect.
Love the space and bar dining is the best!
First visit and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great services and delicious food. We will be returning!
This is a great place with an accommodating staff with no attitude. A real pleasure!
Excellent. Just as good as a friend told me. Highly recommend.
One of the best meals in Hamptons. Great variety of food. A real oasis.
Light, open and airy looking, Amazing lamb burger!!!
Outstanding food and cheerful, friendly service. Twin to Vine Street Cafe
And overall lovely experience. Quality a charm without the pretense. Predictably good!
Second visit; as good as the first. Cove Hollow is a welcome addition to East Hampton.
It's always difficult when new owners take over a beloved restaurant spot and make it their own. That said, my family and I frequented Cafe Max (now Cove Hollow Tavern) for years. We had hoped the "new" restaurant would be as good as the old. For us, it was not. The pluses include a professional, friendly waitstaff and nice ambiance. The minuses include no bread for the table, smallish portions (for the cost), and items like the braised vegetables (carrots, greens) being spicy with no indication of such mentioned on the menu. I think the restaurant has potential that it has yet to realize. Hopefully it will soon!
The food there is very good. The portions however seem to have gotten smaller and the prices higher.
CHT is a fantastic restaurant! Very lucky to have Vine Street Cafe’s sister restaurant in East Hampton.
The reason to go to Cove Hollow Tavern is the food. It is fantastic! i loved the gazpacho, so flavorful and fresh tasting! And the black bass was excellent. My dining companions really enjoyed the shrimp with soba noodles and the lamb burgers. The french fries are amazing. The waitstaff, bartender and hostess were very friendly and accommodating. Its Hamptons prices, but the food is good enough to merit them.
Cove Hollow joins the exclusive list of East Hampton restaurants that deliver on all fronts — food, service and ambiance. I don’t know why we hadn’t tried the year-old restaurant — an offspring of Shelter Island’s wonderful Vine Street Cafe — sooner, but fell in love with it on our first visit. They have remade the former Max’s location to be cute, pleasant, new and comfortable. The front of the house staff was knowledgeable and pleasant. The crowd, super-friendly and interesting. But it was the food that really wowed. Our two entrees, the shellfish gumbo and the potato-crusted sea bass were as solid and impressive as any East End dinner offering. The shared chocolate profiteroles dessert, was indeed memorable. We loved the place and will be back — often.
Between Cove Hollow and Vine Street, this may be the best restaurant group in the Hamptons!
