Poor experience with the RSL last night - post having dinner in the Bistro we ventured into the area near the escalators for a couple of drinks celebrating a 79 year olds birthday. We had only been in the RSL for 3 hours and an over zealous, power hungry female security person decided that 1 member of our group of 10 people was intoxicated and need to leave within 5 minutes! Absolutely ridiculous and proved how far the RSL has fallen in customer service standards in recent years, needless to say none of us will be going back and will be encouraging our friends to do the same.

I made a reservation on the Friday before my chosen day ( the following Wednesay). I hadn't known about the OpenTable app. prior to that but managed my ' old lady' skills to accommodate the club. Reserved the day and time and booked. Arrived prior to the appointed time only to be told I was already there. A staff member pointed to a table. My reservation sign was there but it wasn't me. Someone had boldly stolen my name and taken my reservation! A confused but obliging wait staff secured a different table and my party of 6 arrived. Owing to serious health issues I hadn't been able to enjoy the club's facilities for some time but I wasn't expecting yesterday's debacle!

The food at the Courtyard bistro is reasonable, but the whole experience is overshadowed for the following reasons. 1) The prices are high, when compared to other bistro venues in the Hills area. 2) The bistro charges a fee when paying by either debit or credit card. 3) The table service is annoying. Servers hang around waiting for you to put the last morsel in your mouth in order to then snatch your plate away. 4) The price of drinks is very expensive. They advertise these $6 specials, but then in the fine print, it's limited to one type of beer of one type of wine on the day only. 5) The noise level is pretty high. If you're after a fairly intimate venue where you can converse with family or friends without yelling, this place is not for you. The club is an icon in our area and I'm a long-time member. That said, the Courtyard bistro really needs to lift its game and have a serious re-think about its pricing policy if they want to retain existing members and attract new ones.

We booked a table at 6pm for 6 people as we were seeing a show at the RSL at 8pm. We ordered food at approx 7pm (which was only pizza), and were told it would be a 20 - 30 minute wait. Perfect! At 7.55pm we still hadn't received any food so had to cancel the order and go to the show without dinner. This is the second time it has happened to us at the RSL, the other time was in the restaurant which is why we booked the courtyard kitchen this time.

We found 1.5 hours way too short to have a relaxed meal. The meals took at least half an hour to be prepared and by the time we had eaten them, we would have needed to order dessert and coffee straight away. I know there are plenty of other places to go to sit in the club to have coffee etc, but I had chosen outdoor seating so my grandson could play on the play equipment while we could be close to supervise him. We left the club and got coffee a bit later elsewhere.

Staff are very friendly and helpful. Food servings are generous and everything we had was delicious. Highly recommend.
