Cottonwood Grille Ratings and Reviews
This was our first opportunity to have dinner at the Cottonwood Grille and we were looking forward to a fun evening as many of our friends had recommended this restaurant . When we arrived, we stated that we had a reservation made through Open Table and the hostess at the desk informed us that the restaurant was no longer affiliated with Open Table, and did not honor their reservation service. She stated that the restaurant has their own website for reservations. Because there were many people coming from or going to the Morrison Center that evening, I was concerned that our reservation would not be honored, but after some polite conversation regarding the confirmation I had received from both the restaurant and Open Table, she did seat us and we enjoyed a wonderful dinner in a beautiful environment .
The service was impeccable. Our starter -- croquetas -- was unique and very, very tasty. Our Caesar salads were terrific -- whole hearts of romaine leaves; fresh, shaved Parmesan; whole anchovy filets; yummy, creamy dressing. The wine recommended by our server -- a California pinot noir -- was exceptional and one of the least expensive on the small but well-chosen wine list. The sides that accompanied our mains were really, really good, especially the broccoli. The proteins, however, should have been better. I had the pheasant in a cream sauce with wild mushrooms. My companion had a steak au poivre. Both were okay, but just okay. The sauces lacked zing and zing was needed to make this a truly exceptional meal.
We left the kids behind and enjoyed a quiet dinner for 2. It was a peaceful location that reminded me of an elegant lodge. The service was excellent and the food was great. I had the Tortellini and the cheese sauce was flavorful. The chicken was cooked till it was soft and flavorful. The Cobbler was a great top to the experience.
Started off with drinks in the bar. Was discussing wine with the bartender and how generous the pour was. When we got to our table ordered glasses of wine, the pour was not so generous.
Waitress did okay, but the service was not what I expected for the Cottonwood Grille
After dinner had drinks in the bar.
Overall a delicious meal. There were two types of fish on the daily special menu that are more customary on Hawaiian menus, so it was fun to be able to enjoy grilled ono in Boise. The kitchen should work on their house salad ingredients, though. Packaged lettuce and a slice of tomato - I expect a variety of really fresh greens at a nice restaurant. Patio dining is lovely in the summer, with the water features and lush landscaping, overlooking the Boise Greenbelt. Excellent service.
My husband and I took an out-of-town guest to Cottonwood. We all enjoyed our excellent fresh fish dishes and really enjoyed dining in the late evening on the porch. Cottonwood tree fluff was drifting through the air...you have to shield your food a little at this time of year, but it was atmospheric. I'll definitely go again.
It was my wife's birthday and we thought we would try something new. She ordered the wienerschnitzel with fries, it seemed the entire plate was heated in the microwave, very greasy and soggy. sent it back and the owner/manager came and apologized admitting he dish was awful. My pork chops were terribly pedestrian, lacking flavor and imagination. Maybe go for a drink outside if you must, but would not eat here again.
Originally from Chicagoland area and recently moved to Boise. Everyone said they had one of the best steaks in town. Obviously they don't know what a good quality steak should taste like. Their steaks aren't worth the $30+ they charge. Their potatoes had zero flavor except the taste of old herbs. We tried the Idaho morels which was mushrooms in a pastry bowl. Server said it was amazing- it was awful! The French onion soup also had no taste! The service was just as bad. We waited 5 minutes before the waitress came by to say hi and then to say be right there. Was the slowest service ever. The only good thing about the restaurant is the nice decor and their cheesecake was pretty good. I'll never come back and will never take family here. I'll stick with Ruth Chris.
The Cottonwood Grille is my go-to lunch destination for hosting out-of-town business guests. The reasons are simple: Great food, great atmosphere, and great location. It can't be overstated how nice it is to always have available parking when I go to the Cottonwood Grille. I don't have time to search for parking, nor do I have time to go into a parking garage. I like easy in, easy out...and that is what I get at the Cottonwood.
It was a Monday evening anniversary celebration. Service was poor/slow and not so attentive. Food was good, wine was good, desert was good but waited much too long between courses. There was a bump in that the weather changed rapidly and all guest on the outdoor patio had to move inside. Appaently this was not planned for and the reaction by staff was slow.
Woulld I try this restaurant again? Probably yes but with a bit of reluctance.
Pricing was fair. Atmosphere was good. Just the slow service prevents me from recommending this to others.
The food was underwhelming for the price but the service was outstanding and saved it. The dining room is uncomfortably loud and while we were reseated to the patio, I definitely wouldn't go to this restaurant during the days the patio is unavailable. For the price I thought the food was a bit bland though well presented.
Cottonwood Grille is one of my favorite restaurants. My wife and I often go here on special occasions I've conducted and attended several business lunches here and my guests were quite happy with it. The food is always quite good with a changing menu so you don't get bored. The outdoor seating has a great view of the Boise River.
The food was good, but not what I expected. Restaurant-fare a place with much less ambiance might have prepared, and costing half as much. But I cannot fault the effort and overall experience in a reasonably pleasant setting on a warm, early spring evening.
Pasta was overcooked - not much, but enough so that when combined with soggy overdone spinach beds under scallops, the entire dish simply failed to come off as it was doubtless designed.
It was a Monday night . . . perhaps a "slow" evening in the kitchen manned by second-tier staff?
The title of this review says it all. They are along the Greenbelt pathway with beautiful views of the river and greenery. The food is local, fresh, excellent, and exotic. They source from local ranches. The Elk and Buffalo were cooked perfectly and so moist and tender.
The wine list is extensive with an emphasis on local. Given it's in Idaho you have to realize local wine selections are limited. Nonetheless, there are still many on the menu.
My wife and I loved it here. We sat outside not eh patio that overlooks the pathway and river. Absolutely gorgeous.
This restaurant is beautiful and in a lovely setting on the river, but I chose it because I could order elk or bison. I had the elk, and it was delicious. My coworker had the bison, and loved it. The balance of the food was good, but unexceptional; the game made the dinner memorable.
Two friends and I meet for lunch regularly at The Cottonwood Grill. We all enjoy the menu and the service has always been cordial and timely. At our most recent lunch, one friend and I lingered long after completing our meal and were well taken care of the entire time. The patio is a favorite place to eat as the weather improves. We will continue to enjoy lunch here in the future.
We enjoyed a lovely lunch with my father last Thursday. The staff was well-informed of my request for a table out of the mainstream and they made us feel special from the moment we walked in the door. Our server was perfectly attentive, seamlessly caring for our every need from greeting to handling questions about our gift card. My father enjoyed his steak and the fries that were substituted for the mashed potatoes especially for him. My husband and I enjoyed salads that were out of this world! Mine had plentiful sautéed shrimp & scallops over a bed of greens and melons; his had a chicken curry over a mixed green salad. All meals were chosen off the seasonal menu which included many fresh and interesting, yet not overly imaginative food combinations.
This restaurant is one I would recommend to everyone who desires dining near our spectacular Boise River in an environment that matches it's beauty, perfect flow and calm.
Thank you, Ryan for your impeccable service and to Cottonwood Grill for being consistently excellent for so many years!
Our table was as requested, and the food was exceptional! Our server(s) were very attentive and helpful throughout the evening. The noise level was a bit high, due to several large groups, but it was not objectionably loud. We will be purchasing a gift card or two for special clients!
