A very cozy spot in the FiDi/North Beach area. Food is fantastic, and menu changes quite often. Portions are deceptively small - believe me, they fill you up! We started with the beets antipasti (I don't recall the name) and romanesco broccoli sformato. The sformato is covered in a dreaaaaaamy bechamel...ugh, so good. For pasta dishes, we got the gramigna alla salsiccia and tagliatelle alla bolognese. Both were delicious - tagliatelle was a tad salty for my taste, but still yummy. For dessert, we split the gianduja tart with caramelized banana...chocolate + hazelnut + banana gelato = heaven!!

Our server was wonderful and attentive. I had informed them it was my husband's birthday on my reservation, they provided a custom placemat with his name, everyone wished him Happy Birthday and at the end of the meal, got a gelato with a candle. They took good care of us! We'll definitely be back!

Not to be missed little sib of the great Quince. Wood fired pizza is great, but crudo, soup, pasta , fish et al. Great wine list and cocktails. Warm staff. Go!

Upon entering, we were greeted as if we were in a coffee shop. Service was uneven although our waiter was good. We were rushed in the beginning......plates were removed before we even finished a course. Sparkling water was poured constantly whether we wanted more or not. $24.00 for the water was overpriced. The swordfish portion was minute. Overpriced and nothing special.

I went to Cotogna for a late valentine’s date with my wife. We found the dishes delicious and creative. The service was excellent and the waitstaff was very knowledgeable and attentive.

As always we loved Cotogna. The food is wonderful, however this time, wait times for drinks and meals was unusually long time. We got seated at 8.10PM our main course wasn’t served until 9.45.

The ambiance is perfect for a date and candlelight seating doesn’t hurt. Great hand crafted cocktails coupled with Italian food that melts in your mouth. My personal favorite is the burrata pizza and the Tiramisu dessert was to die for!

A wonderful birthday lunch at Cotogna! We started with romanesco broccoli sformato and a shrimp and blood orange salad. Shared a wild mushroom, leek and buretta pizza and lemon and saffron arancini (the best ever!) Everything was delicious and seasonal. The server was professional and so nice. She even brought complimentary a scoop of pistachio gelato with a candle! Many thanks to the Cotogna team for another outstanding meal!

Delicious italian food. Pricey but high quality. However, only getting pastas would not be enough. You'll likely need to order more or definite Secondi.

All there Pasta is wonderful, pizza good, salads great , very disappointed that they no longer offer focaccia; I would pay for it , shouldn’t have taken it away. All there meat & fish coarse excellent. Cocktails on pricey side. Overall we love this place. Service & food quality spectacular

Cotogna has yet to disappoint. The ambiance is excellent -- it provides a very comfortable environment and the service is generally very good. The food is also excellent and I highly recommend the swordfish off the new menu. I feel that the quality of the food is pretty well balanced with the price. I will definitely come back.

did not like either of the pasta's we ordered (raviolo, ?fettucini?). pizza and crab appetizer were good. thought it would be better since it was so difficult to get a reservation. waitress was nice and came often.

Adding my girlfriends name to the menu was so sweet and thoughtful. The host assisted us by getting us sat before our reservation time. The server was so nice and attentive. Every person we interacted with added to our excellent experience.
Our only sad moment was that we left our leftovers at the restaurant. Two lamb shanks and half my crab salad. We can't remember if the server brought it back to us or if we were at fault for leaving it. We were so upset that we couldn't eat the amazing leftovers the next day. Would definitely come back again. Loved especially the ravioli appetizer.

Gone downhill from first time there. The crab pasta was over-lined- couldn’t taste the crab. My wife’s carbonara was better but not the very best we ever had. Fabulous pistachio gelato, best thing about the meal. So noisy couldn’t have easy conversation. For $225 with (good) 2 glasses of wine, coffee, water, and tip and tax, NOT a great value.

Our waiter was initially present and helpful. Once he returned with drinks and took our order we never saw him again. After the runner brought our food no one ever stopped by our table. I asked an employee for some ice for my ice tea. 10 minutes went by and nothing. I saw her again and asked if she forgot. She did. 15 minutes to get a glass of ice. We had to find another waitress to ask for our check. No one ever asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. The food was far better than the service. The table wobbled. When I asked for sugar for my ice tea, I was given fussy simple syrup. $6 for an ice tea and $6 for Bubble up. Good food can be found throughout San Francisco as can good service. That being said I would not return nor recommend the restaurant to anyone.

I arrived late for my lunch after my flight was delayed into SF. The restaurant was accommodating and pleasant upon my arrival. After being seated the waiter brought me a cocktail and a local beer. (I was on holidays!) I started with the halibut crudo followed by the Agnolotti (which is apparently their signature dish). Both dishes were amazing but not overly filling. While I was satisfied with the meal, I had been travelling all day and was starving so I decided to order the Crab Luigi, which was another fabulous dish. The food was outstanding and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone that appreciates quality dishes!

I was really looking forward to this reservation as it came highly recommended. Unfortunately my friends and I were extremely disappointed. We asked for bread, we were told they didn’t have any on Wed. The 3 mains we ordered were over seasoned and did not have a good balance of flavor. The meatballs had a good flavor but were too salty, the side potatoes were raw and just oily. The crab pasta special tasted like lemon, oil and chili flakes, not a sauce. Minuscule pieces of dungeneess crab. The truffle pasta was blah and just tasted like truffle. We had the vegetarian pizza and the leeks, mushroom and chosen cheese didn’t complement one another and was blah. The best item was the persimmon salad.

Our second time at Cotogna and it was just as good this time as last. Food is always fresh, creative, attractively plated, and tastes delicious. Service is efficient and servers pleasant and warm, without being obsequious or too chummy. Our only complaint - it is too damn loud. For folks such as myself, who are over 65, the din of the restaurant makes hearing your dinner partner(s) a challenge; wish there was some way they could easily redesign the space to cut down on the overall noise level.

Luckily went early sat at the bar, loved the service and atmosphere wish I would of got the focaccia but loved the raviolo , and ragu , will definitely be back for the pizza too . All around fantastic place to eat!!
