Cotogna Ratings and Reviews

The food is good here, but they don't manage the floor well. We had 7:45 reservations, and didn't get seated until 8:10. There were no apologies, just a statement that the people in 'our' table were late leaving. They said we could order a drink while we waited, which we did. But, the drink didn't come until we were at the table already.
A simple 'we're sorry for the delay' would have gone a long way, but we never got an apology. I would't mind a little wait, but almost half an hour was a bit much, particularly when we have a babysitter on the clock.
When our server came, she asked how we were, and I said that we were a little stressed by the long wait to get our table. I also said that we were trying to forget about that and have a nice dinner. She simply said, let's turn the page on that. Then she took asked us about our water preference, and left. Her totally non plussed response left me feeling like it happens often.
This is the fifth or sixth time I've eaten here, and I like the food. But, this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. If I were ever to return, I would definitely shoot for a 5:30 reservation.
Second time I've had this waitress in three weeks for lunch. Next time I get her I will ask for a different table she isn't waiting on or sit at the bar. She is non respondent and indifferent. This time the reservation was at 1:45 and we were seated promptly, but it took 15 minutes for the waitress to appear and she said she would be back in a minute for our orders. Then another 10 minutes passed, she came back took the drink orders (there were only two of us) and said she'd come back for the food order even though we were ready and had been since her first appearance at the table. The restaurant was only about 30% occupied at that point. It was over an hour when we got our appetize from our reservation time and then another 35 minute time lapse between when that was cleared and the appearance of our two pasta dishes. People came and went with two courses in other areas of the restaurant while we sat there with no food and no waitress. Never again. Also, she just brought the check with no offer of coffee or dessert. Frankly, I was happy to leave.
The food at Cotogna is always delicious and fresh. They use simple, seasonal ingredients in creative combinations. We were there (this time) for an anniversary and they were so sweet in helping us celebrate. There were personalized placemats waiting, and each staff member who came to our table wished us a happy anniversary. The food was outstanding and the atmosphere was so comfortable and rustic. I love Cotogna and will continue to go back regularly.
There was confusion over our mid-afternoon reservation, but we arrived early and were quickly accommodated. The waiter was a delight despite being very busy. The food was amazing (we both had salad and pasta dishes) and the Italian wine was excellent. There is a parking garage nearby ($18 for valet parking) which made it very convenient (and highly unusual for San Francisco). Can't wait to go back...
Excellent dinner, possibly the best we had in our 3 week trip to the US. Interesting and very good wine (Sicilian Malvasia). Food was excellent - a dish which could have been quite ordinary ( tagliollini with cream, peas, mint and pancetta) was exceptionally good.
I went with a friend for our mutual birtthdays. When I made the reservation, I was asked if it was for a special occasion and I told them it was for both my friend's and my birthdays. They asked my friend's name. When we got there, we were wished Happy Birthday by the hostess and our server. Plus on the table they had a printed placemat with our names wishing both of a Happy Birthday. A really lovely touch. With the dessert we ordered they gave us each a scoop of delicious vanilla bean ice cream with a candle in it. Over and above all these nice gestures, the pastas were fantastic -- all freshly made and with unusual combinations of ingredients. Because we had to wait a little longer than usual for our pasta course, they gave us an additional pasta to share. It was a wonderful mean. And the vodka martini was absolutely delicious with yummy olives not the usual pimenta stuffed ones. Terrific all around. I would definitely go back and also recommend it to friends.
My wife and I celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary here and it was great. We were warmly greeted and provided with custom paper mats that had a congratulatory message to both my wife and myself, that was very nice of them. Service was amazing, our server was very friendly. Food was delicious, and dessert was out of this world. This place is great for celebrations, date night, business, family and or just with friends.
Thank you for a great experience, definitely will be coming back and will highly recommend to friends and family.
