Consistently superb combination of inventive and beautifully executed plates that respect authenticity but add a unique sense of imagination. Savory, pleasurable and memorable dishes plus excellent service make this one of our most repeated food spots in SF.

I went to Cotogna for a late valentine’s date with my wife. We found the dishes delicious and creative. The service was excellent and the waitstaff was very knowledgeable and attentive.

As always we loved Cotogna. The food is wonderful, however this time, wait times for drinks and meals was unusually long time. We got seated at 8.10PM our main course wasn’t served until 9.45.

The ambiance is perfect for a date and candlelight seating doesn’t hurt. Great hand crafted cocktails coupled with Italian food that melts in your mouth. My personal favorite is the burrata pizza and the Tiramisu dessert was to die for!

A wonderful birthday lunch at Cotogna! We started with romanesco broccoli sformato and a shrimp and blood orange salad. Shared a wild mushroom, leek and buretta pizza and lemon and saffron arancini (the best ever!) Everything was delicious and seasonal. The server was professional and so nice. She even brought complimentary a scoop of pistachio gelato with a candle! Many thanks to the Cotogna team for another outstanding meal!

Delicious italian food. Pricey but high quality. However, only getting pastas would not be enough. You'll likely need to order more or definite Secondi.

All there Pasta is wonderful, pizza good, salads great , very disappointed that they no longer offer focaccia; I would pay for it , shouldn’t have taken it away. All there meat & fish coarse excellent. Cocktails on pricey side. Overall we love this place. Service & food quality spectacular

Cotogna has yet to disappoint. The ambiance is excellent -- it provides a very comfortable environment and the service is generally very good. The food is also excellent and I highly recommend the swordfish off the new menu. I feel that the quality of the food is pretty well balanced with the price. I will definitely come back.

did not like either of the pasta's we ordered (raviolo, ?fettucini?). pizza and crab appetizer were good. thought it would be better since it was so difficult to get a reservation. waitress was nice and came often.

Adding my girlfriends name to the menu was so sweet and thoughtful. The host assisted us by getting us sat before our reservation time. The server was so nice and attentive. Every person we interacted with added to our excellent experience.
Our only sad moment was that we left our leftovers at the restaurant. Two lamb shanks and half my crab salad. We can't remember if the server brought it back to us or if we were at fault for leaving it. We were so upset that we couldn't eat the amazing leftovers the next day. Would definitely come back again. Loved especially the ravioli appetizer.

Gone downhill from first time there. The crab pasta was over-lined- couldn’t taste the crab. My wife’s carbonara was better but not the very best we ever had. Fabulous pistachio gelato, best thing about the meal. So noisy couldn’t have easy conversation. For $225 with (good) 2 glasses of wine, coffee, water, and tip and tax, NOT a great value.

Our waiter was initially present and helpful. Once he returned with drinks and took our order we never saw him again. After the runner brought our food no one ever stopped by our table. I asked an employee for some ice for my ice tea. 10 minutes went by and nothing. I saw her again and asked if she forgot. She did. 15 minutes to get a glass of ice. We had to find another waitress to ask for our check. No one ever asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. The food was far better than the service. The table wobbled. When I asked for sugar for my ice tea, I was given fussy simple syrup. $6 for an ice tea and $6 for Bubble up. Good food can be found throughout San Francisco as can good service. That being said I would not return nor recommend the restaurant to anyone.

I arrived late for my lunch after my flight was delayed into SF. The restaurant was accommodating and pleasant upon my arrival. After being seated the waiter brought me a cocktail and a local beer. (I was on holidays!) I started with the halibut crudo followed by the Agnolotti (which is apparently their signature dish). Both dishes were amazing but not overly filling. While I was satisfied with the meal, I had been travelling all day and was starving so I decided to order the Crab Luigi, which was another fabulous dish. The food was outstanding and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone that appreciates quality dishes!

I was really looking forward to this reservation as it came highly recommended. Unfortunately my friends and I were extremely disappointed. We asked for bread, we were told they didn’t have any on Wed. The 3 mains we ordered were over seasoned and did not have a good balance of flavor. The meatballs had a good flavor but were too salty, the side potatoes were raw and just oily. The crab pasta special tasted like lemon, oil and chili flakes, not a sauce. Minuscule pieces of dungeneess crab. The truffle pasta was blah and just tasted like truffle. We had the vegetarian pizza and the leeks, mushroom and chosen cheese didn’t complement one another and was blah. The best item was the persimmon salad.

Our second time at Cotogna and it was just as good this time as last. Food is always fresh, creative, attractively plated, and tastes delicious. Service is efficient and servers pleasant and warm, without being obsequious or too chummy. Our only complaint - it is too damn loud. For folks such as myself, who are over 65, the din of the restaurant makes hearing your dinner partner(s) a challenge; wish there was some way they could easily redesign the space to cut down on the overall noise level.

Very sweet restaurant / friendly competent service : welcoming : the best pizza & inventive but traditional Italian Cuisine. The cozy atmosphere and roaring fire makes a great ambience . It is pricy so a tablecloth would make the place feel worth the cost

We had such a great time! Our waiter Josh was just wonderful - he made some great recommendations on the menu, both food and wine. We debated dessert, and we went for it and it was amazing! I highly recommend getting dessert (the hot chocolate is also AMAZING!). We arrived early (at 6pm for an 8:30 reservation) thinking we could get in earlier. They were able to seat us right then or at 7pm at the bar - we opted to keep our 8:30 reservation. But, if you are trying to come without a reservation just come early!

The deserts are out of this worlds, and the pasta is really good. However, we waited for half an hour to be served. Just waiting at the table with nobody coming to us or asking us anything. Mind you we came in with a sleeping kid so it would have been nice not to have vaited so long. If we were better handled by the staff the overall expericence would have been different.

Waited at the front reception area for nearly 10 minutes before anyone came to greet us. That felt awkward with everyone looking at us - probably wondering the same as us - why?? Our server was great, but overworked. The food is always good. Cotogna would be exceptional if the attention to detail and service was as good as the food. The front desk people are always lackluster.

We flew from NYC to have Michael Tusk’s agnolotti again and I would do it any day. It’s the best pasta dish I have ever had anywhere, including Italy. We miss the original Quince, but Cotogna inspires.

Everything was wonderful - great server, cozy, simple decor and terrific food. We especially enjoyed the chitarra with blue crab and lime, which had s light touch even if "glazed in butter". We also enjoyed the quail with sunchokes (are sunchokes the new brussels sprouts? seems to be on every menu). As a lead in to the quail, our server recommended the tortelli with celeriac, which was divine. Tiramisu and the torched meringue with passion fruit topped off our meal. Less impressive but perhaps we were too full to enjoy. Cocktails were great (negroni and early riser). All in all, a satisfying dinner and atmosphere that we wish we could enjoy more often than distance allows (i.e., flying over the Pacific Ocean). We will be back!

20 minute wait for a table in spite of a confirmed reservation. Hostess was totally inept. One two seat table was available but not offered. Later arrivals seated before we were. It took 15 minutes to set a table for two for our "assigned" spot. Meanwhile, all attention was given to setting up a table for a private party. Crammed into the front area that was so loud that conversation was impossible. My drink order was delivered so late that it came right before our dinner wine. Server was MIA most of the evening. Food was nothing special. Very disappointing experience.

Cotogna came highly recommended by my daughter in law - we took a late afternoon reservation for late lunch, early dinner. Place was hopping the whole time! Couples, groups of friends, families. A great people watching experience! Our waiter, John was really busy but very attentive. Our beet appetizer was WONDERFUL! I had small pasta dish and my husband had pizza. My pasta was very tasty but not very hot. He loved the pizza. The dessert was the high point. A hazelnut chocolate torte with caramelized banana and banana gelato for me - pistachio gelato for him. Well prepared food, local ingredients, nice wine list by the glass a great Saturday afternoon date.
