We can always rely on Cotogna in the Financial District for an excellent upscale Italian meal.
Best agnolotti ever!
Loved this neighborhood eatery. It's definitely energetic, and you're going to be eating "up close and personally" with those seated at the tables next to you. Nonetheless, the food is delish, and the staff warm, friendly, and clearly happy to have you. Though we struggled to hear each other, we enjoyed every bite of our avocado appetizer, tagliatelle bolognese, and black cod with beets, potato, and spinach. We can talk any time. Enjoying a satisfying Sunday supper out of town is a treat.
Always consistent & always terrific
Superb cuisine. Booya! Prices per glass of wine ran too steep, but the wine was delicious. If you go, make sure to try or focus on pasta offerings, as they were top notch; everything else was too though.
as always delicious, amazing service in a beautiful room with lovely staff and clientele. my FAV spot in SF
really enjoyed the atmosphere and food. All staff's recommendations for the menu were outstanding.
Late night dinner post SF Giants baseball game. Barely made kitchen closing time yet manager and entire staff made us feel welcome, which isn't always the case when you walk in five minutes prior to kitchen closing. Really appreciated it. Restaurant half full even then and not sense of rushing you through your meal. Great service, great ambiance, great pizza.
Birthday dinner! It was perfect. They even put my name on the placemats! Nice touch to an already incredible meal.
Great food. Dishes are pretty small so value is not so good.
The food was disappointing. It lacked richness and depth, and was a little dry (specifically the lamb). The wine list featured little from Italy, likewise the themes in the Cocktails lacked much Italian flare. The space itself is nice, but at c.$75 pp (inc. glass of wine) the food does not justify the price.
Friendly staff, fantastic food. Fantastic dining experience!
Nice special occasions and weekend hang out place. I love. Their professional services
Don’t leave without having the Raviolo
Food was exceptional. Presentation and plating attentive and elegant. Service was attentive and professional
This is the best restaurant in SF.
Looking for gold in the financial district? This is the place to go!! The service is prompt and courteous. I ordered the cod and it was so flaky and tender I did not know I was eating fish. My husband ordered the pappedelle with lamb and ate the "whole thing". The flavors are perfectly blended and mild. One of the best starters was the bread. Not certain what the chef did to make these rolls taste so wonderful but they were so good we ordered five more to go. As a finishing touch I ordered the banana dessert with chocolate dream filling......Wow! Aslo I would go back just to have the coffee......no sugar, no cream just great coffee. Cannot wait to go back and eat!!!
Everything was wonderful!
We order the raviolo with farm egg & brown butter & the Tagliatelle alla bolognese, everything was delicious!
If you love pasta Cotogna is the place to go. The service is amazing and the wine selection shows attention to detail. Tusk‘s places are just best-in-class when it comes to hospitality. Quince and Cotogna are every food/wine lovers dream.
Overall the food was good, but the service was severely lacking. The second courses came out cold and had to be remade. Our server forgot about our final course and tried to clear our table and rush us out, but he seemed overworked on this particular evening. In our server’s absence, we were blatantly ignored by other servers and staff on multiple occasions when we needed anything such as additional bottles of water, pouring our wine, asking questions about the menu, and ordering more dishes. We expected a higher level of service and attention to detail for a $300+ meal. At the end of dinner, we hoped to address these concerns with someone. Nobody in the restaurant checked in with us after dropping off the bill despite the fact that half of the tables were empty by this point. A very unfortunate experience because the ambience and food were solid, yet the experience left us displeased with our evening.
1, The service there is wonderful!
2, The material of food is really fresh from local farms. I ordered black cod which is a kind of fish very delicate and soft and is hard to fry. But they fried the fish with a crispy skin and elastic meat.
3, The hot chocolate is the best. You won't like drinking other chocolate anymore.
Classy restaurant. Simple, natural with delicious food. One minor issue; ordered tuna appetizer but did not say it was crudo/raw. Should have said so. (although it has become very commonplace for all restaurants to serve raw fish without worry, whether crudo or ceviche, it is not without worry. Someone I know got Hep B from raw fish in San Francisco recently.)
We had the pizza and it was out of this world. John Graham the bartender was outstanding. Had two gin martini's and John Graham made them perfect.
Birthday Celebration~nice touch, when we arrived at our table, the placemats had Happy Birthday on them. Also a lovely sorbet with a candle was brought to the table after dinner.
Food was phenomenal as was the service.
Great special occasion dining experience! Warm ambience, delightful, professional service (Marco took special care of us) and we thoroughly enjoyed the wine selection and each course. Yummy avocado salads and both the spaghetti with clam and bitter nettle sugo and the gramigna alla salsicce were outstanding. We’ll have to return when the black squid ink sauce is a featured special; it’s my husband’s favorite pasta!
Very good pasta dishes, sauce are tasty and unique to each dish. Our waitress was warm and friendly and she was right on the spot with her recommendations.
I had the avocado & kumquat salad and bigoli pasta with duck. Both excellent.
Wonderful as always. Not inexpensive and portions are not overly large but everything fresh and delicious!
We both ordered the Sunday night dinner. I felt the description misleading. It touted foie gras but there was none to be found. I questioned my server and she said it was foie gras butter. Aside from that, I found the space warm and inviting but the food mediocre.
I did wake up sick the following morning. Not sure if it was food related but I won't be returning.
Very tasty food...wine we chose wasn't fabulous...but nice evening all around
Delicious from start to finish with great service to boot. We started with the fava leaf sformato and the little gem avocado salad. Had the agnolotti del plin in the middle and the sea bass as a main course. Finished off with vanilla gelato topped with chocolate fudge. Get here if you can. worth every penny.
The service and the food were outstanding, and just when I thought it couldn't get better, the desserts simply blew my socks off! The only downfall for me was that tables are crammed so close together it was hard to get in and out of my seat without bumping into the next table's water glasses, and the atmosphere was so loud as to make normal speech difficult. Next time I will ask in advance for a different seat (this was back to the window).
Stunning food. Great service.
It was a birthday dinner for my husband and the restaurant acknowledged it by presenting with the dinner mat on the table saying (and printed) "Happy Birthday, Gary!" That was a very sweet welcome from the restaurant. When I received the reservation confirmation call from the restaurant, they wanted to know the occasion of the dining there. So they were prepared in advance. I don't think many restaurants do this much especially like Cotogna where is extremely popular. They also provided with a birthday cake at the end of the dinner. Very sweet and friendly service. Food is excellent using fresh ingredients. Chefs know how to bring all ingredients at their best! This place reminds me of Chez Panisse in Berkeley, CA. but Cotogna is only more casual and friendlier.
Was amazing! Food and service was on point!
Food was good, but server brought out wrong dish and instead of swapping it out, tried pointing out that told person who ordered that someone else at the table had already ordered it. In her defense we told her it was fine, but that was to not ruin our evening. It was not fine. They also ran out of the pork chop and sold pork tenderloin as the same, which was just not up to par. We were really looking forward to the evening and it was good, but the restaurant did not meet our expectations.
Cotogna never disappoints!
Really like the vanilla gelato!
It was fantastic! We love it. Amy was a great server. Our friends from Texas loved the food and the atmosphere.
Best pizza I ever had!! And extremely great service!
