Amazing as usual! You guys at Cotogna take such good care of me every time I go! This is my favorite restaurant in all of SF! Great fresh pasta/cuisine! The pizza is always delicious. Thank you Chef!!!!

We were planing a trip to SF for months I made a reso three weeks before and could only get a 10pm it was still completely packed every seat at bar full. Food was absolutely to die for the Agnolotti is a must try as well as their Raviolo believe me you will not be disappointed!! Our server Ben was such a delight the service from all sides was amazing . Try their ice cream cart served table side soooo good .

From beginning to end, our meal at Cotonga was pure delight. The feel is warm and engaging, and the food is truly outstanding. I'm not sure I want to eat anywhere else. A perfect place to celebrate with friends and family.
The food was good. The portion average sized.
The service was sufficient.
The lunch pricing is high.
A restaurant you should experience , one I would not frequent often.
Tables are very close.
I felt a bit claustrophobic.
It’s small inside so you feel like you are on the lap of your neighbor.

Overall, Cotogna is an above average experience. Food and service was great for casual dining experience. A little too noisy and tables are too close to each other. My husband did not like the hard chairs. However, the food was well prepared, very fresh, especially the tagliatelle with Dungeness crab meat, and halibut.
I was a bit worried when we showed up to our 6:30 reservation on a Tuesday night and our table was not ready. We waited 15 minutes before we were finally seated. They did ask us if we wanted to order drinks while waiting but my husband didn’t want to be standing up and drinking. Our waiter was great and the rest of the evening went really well. We had shared two appetizers and we ordered four entrees. Presentation and taste were great. We finished off with three different desserts. Husband, kids and I left very satisfied.
This was our fav spot until our last visit. We sat at the Chef's Bar which was lovely until.... my husband asked for a robust, red glass of wine. The waiter recommended one. What we were not aware of was the price...$29 for ONE glass of wine. The waiter never mentioned it's very high price, which is the appropriate thing to do in such circumstances. I just happened to notice it when I was looking at the list. for my order. We both felt that my martini and his first glass of $29 wine were very short pours. We probably would have stayed longer and ordered more but felt a bit 'taken advantage of' with that wine recommendation. The food was very good, again not generous. When we got home, we received no Open Table points because our reservation was not properly input so we had to take care of that. Really disappointing. If you go, check your order and be aware!

The Italian dishes here are all rich & fresh, and apply a few great ideas to classic tastes. I especially loved the honeycomb & mint in gelato : )
The restaurant was packed when we arrived on a Wednesday night for a birthday celebration. We were seated immediately, but the birthday acknowledgements promised by the restaurant were nowhere in sight. At the end of the evening my wife had the opportunity to mention this to the manager. The staff were very apologetic, comped us the desserts we had paid for and brought complimentary glasses of prosecco, so props to them for working to make us feel better. (The bill was over $300, so they should try). Considering we had four bowls of pasta, a couple of appetizers and a round or drinks, the evening seemed expensive to me. My pasta dish was just OK. The noise level was frenetic. It was very difficult to carry on a conversation. Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful. At one point he was bogged down with another table, and sent a colleague to check on us. That was a nice touch. On balance I feel like we paid an awful lot to sit in a very crowded, very noisy place eating average pasta.
The food and service are truly remarkable. We are locals who walk there and even the trip uphill to romcom hill is essy after dining on such memorable food. So fun!
We sat next to a couple of women in the food industry who were also astounded at the food, wine and drink selection. And service. Congrats! We will take the 30 min wLk down and back again soon.
Nice place for lunch but a bit expensive. Wait staff is very attentive and food is very good.
First time for us. The Mamacita Bonita cocktail was hard to enjoy - too strong of grapefruit and with an almost salty finish. I requested an additional touch of agave nectar and it improved greatly. She had a glass of the Black Trumpet syrah: horrible, astringent, no pleasure whatsoever in that glass...for $19? The brussel sprouts salad was alright, but nothing special; the pizza was outstanding; her rabbit pasta dish pretty tasty, while my chicken liver pasta was basically one-dimensional; hard to argue with quince upside down cake. All in all, the dining experience came up short and did not provide the totally delectable dinner we had expected. Kudos, however, to the wait staff! Everyone who came to our table - 5, 6 different servers, bus people, etc.? - aimed to improve our evening in any way possible.
As always impeccable food. Attentive service and very nice atmosphere. Started with the delightful fennel salad. So fresh and tasty. Enjoyed the quails next - perfectly cooked and splurged for dessert and it was worth it.
This is such a fabulous restaurant. The service is always impeccable, the food is always outstanding. It's our go-to for any special event, great for non-special events too. (If you're celebrating a birthday, and they know the celebrant's name ahead of time, they may even have a surprise at your table.)
Special Occasion Bday. We reserved 2 spots at Chefs Table but hosts made an error, so we ended up with a table for 2 by the bar. Server Ben was gracious, timely, and explained menu well. Skip the fennel salad- little bits of fruit spread across a plate- almost comical. Carpaccio had too much parmesan on top to taste meat. We were tempted to order Bistecca, but started with pastas. They were savory and delish. Pinot Noir Ben suggested was a perfect compliment. Leave room for the mountain of gelato served table side doused with grand marnier. Friendly fellows celebrating next to us ordered everything on the menu and gave us bites of the bistecca. It was huge, good but not great- glad we saved our $$.
Cotogna, located in an historic and lovely walking neighborhood -- downtown SF's Jackson Square -- is a warm and elegantly rustic Italian eatery featuring wood oven and hand made pasta specialities, housed in a brick wall, wood plank floor and wide window for street view design, and which is hosted by service members whose crafts are relayed with an abundance of care. One of our favorite places to place ourselves for nourishment and celebration, when we are so lucky.
We love Cotogna and have a holiday celebration there every year. It is always perfect!!!

Incredible food and incredible service.
Cotogna was quite the restaurant! The food was amazing! We had the mandarin orange salad, pancetta & ricotta pizza, raviolo with farm egg & brown butter, and spaghetti alla vongole. For dessert we had the gianduja chocolate tart with Frangelico & candied hazelnuts, which was to die for! Everything was cooked to perfection! Needless to say we were quite full and satisfied! The restaurant itself was warm and beautiful. Our waitress was charming and sweet. The only funny thing was that there was a blonde woman (manager?) who kept parading around the restaurant. She must've passed our table 30+ times in the time we were there (haha!). I found it quite distracting. Aside from that, the evening was perfect! I will definitely return!
Good food and good service -what more can you ask for?
It is wonderful, after all the years of being open, that the food quality is still terrific.
This was out second visit to Cotogna, both times to celebrate an anniversary. In making the reservation, we chose the 4:45 time slot because there was nothing later until too late in the evening. But we noticed that at 5:30 the restaurant was still half empty so we didn't understand why we could not have gotten a later time. The place mats with our name one them and an anniversary wish was a nice touch, but not really adding any value to the experience.
As with our prior visit, the food was fantastic. The group at the next table had the prosciutto appetizer and highly recommended it. We concur. It was delicious. I had the clam spaghetti, while my wife had the gramigna with rabbit. They were both wonderful dishes. The clam spaghetti was different than so many other clam pasta dishes I've had... and a touch better. My only disappointment was a lack of a nice red wine sauce dish on the menu. For desert, we had the caramel gelato. It too was perfect.
The service this time was mediocre, especially compared to last year when were experienced about the best service we'd ever had in a restaurant. This time, there were some long gaps between visits to the table. My wife wanted a glass of wine with the entree, but the waiter didn't come back in time to make it worth ordering one considering how long it took for our first round of drinks to arrive.
In summary, I'd say that the experience was less enthralling as our first visit last year, but the food was very good and well worth the other shortcomings. Not sure when, but I'm sure we'll return.
All around amazing. Anna was our server. She really made our night a personal experience. The food was fantastic. Can’t wait to go back!!!
This way exceeded expectations. Welcoming, comfortable space, well informed friendly and professional service and exciting food. Highly recommend the Gramigna and my husband enjoyed his spaghetti Alla vongole. Wonderful wines by the glass. Save room for their fabulous gelato. Five star plus evening.
